Great Piece of Art SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW
I would say that the movie is really a gem of an art piece. The use of excellent imagery coupled with pretty out-of-the-place background score tells us about the uniqueness of this movie. Stanley Kubrick has really applied a lot of thought into this.
The director wants the audience to feel something as bad not because he is showing it as bad but because it really is bad. The background music accompanying the ultra violent scenes is comical, and not dramatic or anything else that is commonly associated with such scenes. This gives the viewer an opportunity to feel the bitterness not because the music hints so but because he himself feels so. Viewer's emotions should arise irrespective of what the director is trying to show, and this is one of the greatest successes of the movie.
Another glorifying feature is the central idea of the movie. If a human is striped of the choice to choose from good and evil, he no longer remains a human, he becomes a clockwork. When Alex is brain-washed and "programmed" to choose only good, he wasn't accepted by the society and this shows the irony in the objectives of the British Government. The word Orange from the title presumably comes from the word "Ourange" that loosely means man. And hence the title is so appropriate to the movie.
The artificiality in dialogues and sets give the movie a unique feature and enhance the grip on it. This also means that the viewer has to get more involved. This is definitely one of the best technically shot movies, another masterpiece of Kubrick like the Space Oddessey.
For the uninitiated, set in near future Britain, the movie shows Malcom MacDowell as the head of a group of youngsters involved in sexual violence. Turn of the events leave the protagonist in the hands of the police. Worried by the growing number of prisoners the British Government devises a method of "programming" them so that they always choose the good. Alex is chosen as one of those on which the new system is to be tested. The rest unfolds as a saga of the very human characteristic.
Lastly, I would like to say that you may be compelled to leave the movie in between, but if you are watching it for art and cinematic experience, I recommend you to sit through.

REAL HORROR SHOW!!!
It is a Terrific Kubrick Film, Macolm Mcdowell is amazing as the role, but it does contain, some graphic nudity and sexual situations! might want to watch it with your kids!

An excellent classic film, but NOT appropriate for kids or young teenagers. A mature teenager, however, would be able to understand its context.

This is an amazing and yet terrifying film. The book is one of my faves, and its a fantastic movie... This shows that film can be an extremely powerful medium, especially in the hands of a director such as Kubrick.
This film shows rape, murder, torture/brainwashing, etc. on screen. Dont let young kids watch this.

Excellent movie, one of the best ever made. The only thing inappropriate about this film was the nudity, teens know what people of both genders look like so I do not consider that a problem. Anybody who has seen saw, hostel etc has seen something 50 times more violent/graphic than this movie. It is a movie that everyone should see in their life time. The first time I saw this I was 10 and it didn't bother me in the least bit. It is extremely thought provoking and unique/bizarre. I would recommend it to everyone.

love this movie!! iv'e always wanted to see it ever since i was little & saw the cover of it every time i would pass it at Blockbuster. But at least I was mature enough to see it as art from my point of view. I'm 17. I finally saw it when I was either 15 or 16. Of course not all parents will see it as art.
If I had kids I wouldn't let them watch this movie 'til they were at least 17 lol
Definatly recommend it for mature older teens.

Different but...........interesting
I stopeed this movie after 20 minutes because of its sickness but then I started to think about and just decided to watch it and it surprised me! 20 years of age and older be careful about this mature film.

not for entertainment
my favorite movie of all time. i first watched it when i was 14 and that was definitely too young. my mind couldn't get past the shock so i wasn't able to see the message in the movie. when i was 17 i got the real point of the movie which is- "when a man cannot choose, he ceases to be a man." alex becomes a clockwork orange by being able to only do good works after the treatment. By a clockwork orange i mean that he is like a machine that is wound up and set to be "your true christian." he is filled with sweetness like an orange, but it is artificial hence, a clockwork orange. most people 17 and over will be able to grasp this message if they are willing to think about the movie, and not just watch it for entertainment. extremely good movie, just try to sit through the horror and dig for the message. it is well worth it.

Disturbingly Accurate of Modern Times
I think it's a good movie with and is good for college and high school students to watch. The violence is shown but it's not gory and bloody like modern movies it is just simply disturbing to watch. It makes you think which seems to always be a dangerous thing in modern times. We have to remember that this movie was supposed to be of a futuristic London and we are now living in a not so different world than the Anthony Burgess had predicted.

Most kids won;t get it
This is one of my favorite films. It is strange and quirky, giving a powerful message about the cost of freedom. However, most kids probably won't enjoy it. It is slow and strange, giving an ambigoius message. Not stuff kids normaly like. The violence is not nearly as explicit as most horror films. However, the sex and nudity, while not nearly pornographic, are about as explicit as a film can be.
Most kids who want to see it will end up disliking it. However, if they are older than about 14 or 15 (by 15 I don't know how much you should censor) it wouldn'd do them any harm to let them see the film. However, they make think it a wasted 2 hours.

Makes a strong argument for free will
This is an extremely offesnive movie. Language is mild, and violence is mild, but the sex is extreme and continuous. There are at least eight to ten instance of nudity, with two instances of full female nudity. And there are three rape/semi-rape scenes. This makes the film wholly unacceptable for anyone under 18.
That said, I thought A Clockwork Orange was a staggeringly thought-provoking and powerful film. It has some very strong things to say about adolescent violence, free will, and societal justice. The film makes a compelling argument for free will and shows that chemical conditioning is not enough to "cure a wicked person." Rather, the transformation of a bad member of society to a good member of society needs an inner change, a heart change, and the film shows that clearly. Despite the graphic nature of the film, it is a pure masterpiece, and has well-earned its recognition as a cinema classic.

It was give an X-rating back in 1971, however by today's standards the worst part of the movie is the sex. It's failry graphic. The violence is mostly PG-13 level, except for maybe one scene with a bit of blood

One of Kubrick's greats
A clockwork Orange I can not say enough is NOT for your children, or teenagers of that mater, all of the DVD's out to day on the stands are all Rated X(NC-17) like the original that was cut from the theaters back in 1971. But don't get me wrong it is none the less a masterpiece that your kids will just have to see when they are 18

This movie is extremely violent and basically has everything an overly careful parent would despise. However this movie is a masterpiece. I went to college for film and even the professors admitted that this is arguably the best movie ever made.

this is an incredibly violent move. but this movie has a beauty to it that i feel is hardly ever noticed by viewers. this movie is not for kids or those easily offended.

Good but Gross
This movie was brilliant! but i would not let my kids watch it. it just has too much nudity and rape. that was the downside of the movie. one scene is fine but three or four is just too much! i am used to violent movies, those dont bother me. there isnt really any gore. The whole movie is just odd, but the message is good. I would say a mature 15 or 16 year old would handle this just fine.
