A powerful, brilliant movie about brilliance -- iffy for 9 but worth sharing anyway
I loved this movie, and my 9-year-old son enjoyed it, but I think the dark violence -- and especially the evil nature of the Joker character -- was too intense for him. The movie sparked a really positive discussion with him about the nature of intelligence and its role in making people do good or bad things.

NOOOOOOOO KIDS!!!!!!!
This movie is dark, meancing, violent, and just down right innapropiate. When I saw this movie in theaters, I was sickend by how many parents brought their little children. This movie is not for kids, it could pass for R if it had even the smallest amount of more bad content. Althugh this movie is amazing, not only is it the best superhero/comic book, movie out there but it is one of the best movies in history. In addition to the iolence the movie is so dark and has so much menace in it!

Whether you like comic books or not, this is a classic.
This is the master of all comic book stories. But the depth of the subtext in this movie is well above a pre-teen's head. Heck, most of the time, I was depressed myself. Obviously very violent. On the good note, there are some people in this movie who urge you to believe in the fact that people will choose good more often than not. A good message. Do not show this movie in its entirety to kids under 10. Its scary, the villian can't be understood, and there is some real sense of dread in here.

Great Movie, But Definitely for Teens and Adults! (spoiler alert!)
This was an excellent movie, and definitely a must-see for people who are old enough. However, it is a very intense movie and even the good guys don't pull their punches. The Joker, of course, was terrifying, but the villian who manages to reduce me, as an adult, into a giant puddle of tears was Two-Face. Not only were the burns that gave him his distinctive visage horrific, but the way that he just walks up and blows people away - even people who didn't do anything to him - and eventually kidnaps a family and holds a gun to a little boy's head while the boy's father cries and begs helplessly for his son's life was horrible and nightmare inducing for me and my mother both. I went to two showings and was horrified to find myself sitting behind little kids both times. The kids were crying hysterically within the first thirty minutes. Also, no one else has mentioned this so maybe I'm a little nuts but I thought I'd bring it up. Me and all my female friends have a hard time watching one scene between Rachel and the Joker - it's very menacing and there's a hint of sexual predation that was very hard to shake. I get sick to my stomach every time I watch that scene.

Violence is dark and evil
The movie was extremely violent. In the first 15 minutes, about a dozen people are shot. The violence is also heinous - the Joker sticks a pencil into a table and smashes a man's head into it for his "magic trick" of a disappearing pencil.

Quite Possibly the Best Film I've Ever Seen.
Every once in a while, certain movies come along that blow our minds. Then in even rarer situations, some movies come along that make us want to watch it again and again. Then something else happens, something completely new and utterly rare; one of a kind. A movie is released; but not just any movie; movies like this have a name: masterpiece. This is without a doubt one of the best films I've ever seen. It made me thank God for a mastepiece such as this. Christopher Nolan, thank you. To the cast, thank you. This film is fantastic; no, it's unbelievalby masterful; no, in fact, there are no words that could remotely describe or even make you fathom how possibly awe-inspiring this film is. You cannot even compare other movies to this film. It's unfair. Every film will lose. Parents: Although this film is undescribeably fantastically amazing, it is quiote violent. Heath Ledger's the Joker (although the best preformance I've seen in the last decade) is enormously scary, especially his tales of how he got his scars. Two-Face isn't much different; he has a possibly even scarier face, but less horrific stories to tell. There is a lot of action inclding a huge chase scene through undergorund tunnels. There are also some very emotional deaths of major characters we've come to love. Parents, also watch out for "magic trick," although it is a brilliant move, it will highly disturb kids under at least 11, but I still say 15+. Overall, if you haven't seen this film, do so. You won';t regret it. In fact, you'll probably thank me for recommending it (not to sound like a schmuck). I also heard that Christopher Nolan was making a third one; but I don't think it can be as good as this masterpiece of cinema. Not that I doubt Nolan's potential (especially not after this film), but I doubt that there can be better film making than this; and if there is, and if Nolan can make a better film than this... oh man! I can;t even begin to think of a film more well-made, more excellent than this! Now that, ladies and gentlemen, blows my mind!

Dark Knight great movie but P.S.H. got jipped
I went and saw this the night it came out in theaters. It's a great movie, christian bale is the greatest batman there is. Although heath ledger did a good job as joker, he didn't deserve best supporting actor. Phillip Seymore Hoffman deserved it for doubt. The only reason why he won best suppoting actor is because he died. Who cares if he died anyway? But all in all it's a great movie. But can be frightning for smaller children.

It's okay... if your kids are at least a pre-teen and aren't queasy
The movie... is just Violent and Dark. Batman's voice sounds deadly, the joker laughs about thousands of people's deaths, and expect enough tons of explosives to prevent a meteor shower from destroying earth. That's not saying it's actually bad. In fact, it's a thrilling movie, and my boys loved it. I just think that it can get very violent.

Perfect for teens!
This movie is prtty violent but if you've seen "Terminator Salvation" you sould be OK. The highest it went up to in terms of cursing is a*s. Sex is not an issue at all. If you have seen "Terminator Salvation" go see "The Dark Knight" NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Many scenes with graphic violence
Many Scenes will be scary for kids, such as the joker talking about how he got his scars and when everything is calm and then you see a hung body hit a window and the camera lingers on it. However, a prisoner who has clearly made some serious misdeeds gives up his own life to save many people and you will feel like cheering for him. Much graphic violence and shocking visuals. But a very good movie!

Most violent superhero movie besides the punisher.
This is a great movie, that said it is an extremely dark and violent superhero movie about finding peoples inner villain. My rating: PG-13 for intense action violence, disturbing images, thematic elements, and some mild language.

Watch it first!
It was good, but very violent and intense. My boyfriend watched it first and was able to fast forward through the worst scenes (including a scene in which Batman has to kill dogs), so I was less traumatized than I might have been. Good film, see it if you want, but watch it before your kids under 13.

This is fine. Not very bad. I have scene it about 10 times and it's really not that bad.

Actually, good for 14+...but too scary for smaller kids
First off, I rated this iffy because I couldn't rate it On. It is extremely scary by scaring you with suspenseful drama from the joker, and crashing-through-window scares. And don't even bother reading user The Joker's comment, he is lying. He could not possibly be 13 and watched it when he was ten. I would not recommend it for kids younger than 15. I noticed some negative effects when I asked some of my friends who their favorite character in the movie, and they both said the joker. " He's awesome! " They explained to me that because the Joker is so devious, tactical and planning, he was awesome. I liked the movie, but just one little recommendation. Don't watch this at night.

The best in superhero movies, but the extensive murders...
This movie is insanely good. The downfall of many of these superhero movies is the script is terrible, but the script in this one states many philosophical issues, such as the difference between taking justice into your own hands and letting the law deal with it, and the which is better, telling someone something that would break their heart and spirit, but being truthful, or telling a lie, but saving their spirit? This movie brings out the best in superhero movies, with plenty of action, explosions, and fistfights, but with an intense script. However, the Joker kills about 20 people throughout the movie, whom we don't seem to care about. This makes human life seem almost meaningless--except for people who matter, like Batman, Commissioner Gordon, and the mayor.

Awesome Movie !!
It's a great movie that is suspenseful and really cool . It's not very violent either . The worst things that happen are The Joker shoots people and they fall down quickly , no blood or anything . There's one or two strong curse words . Most of the things that happen that are graphic are off camera but you know it happened , they just don't show it .

AMAZING.
I am a huge geek, I love aything that has to do with my favorite comic books, video games, ect.. When i went to go see The Dark Knight i was BLOWN away. The acting is top of the line, story line was top of the line, everything was amazing. Although this is my all time favorite movie now, there are some things that may concern parents... and most of the concerns are with the Joker... #1: The Joker CAN be pretty creepy. I enjoyed him, i am his biggest fan, but for kids 13 or under, it MIGHT be just a little too much. #2: Most of the plot is foucused on the Joker's messed up logic. At the end of the movie you find out that he did all that stuff just to prove that even the greatest heros can fall and become the villan. #3: VIOLENCE. Not gore, not blood, just violence. There are explotions, guns, knifes, and whatever else you need or want in a action flick. But the violence i am talking about is the violence the joker generates... just think "Saw". Over all, if you not scared of creepy clowns GO SEE IT. It is a REALLY good flick and i suggest it to EVERYONE.
