DIE HARD is described by some as the most entertaining action movie ever made. Though I would be hesitant to heap that much praise on it, I do heartily recommend it to fans of the genre. Though it's plot points have since become conventions of almost every action movie and the social enviornment of the movie is completely outdated, this movie's thrills haven't let up in the twenty three years since it was made. That's the good news. The bad: neither has its inappropriate content.
Parents: this movie is probably more graphic than you remember, and I would recommend perusing it yourself first before putting your teens in front of it. Though its tone is adventurous and more like an Indiana Jones film, the movie still contains nudity, harsh profanity, and explicit violence. Teens who see the movie will see numerous people shot and killed graphically (with spurting blood and brain matter). One man has his knees shot through (heaps of blood) before crashing his head through a glass window. Another falls from a skyscraper window with a resounding crunch. Several civilians are executed on-screen. A running joke in the film is a recurring topless poster of a woman, and though the nudity is clear, it is in a humorous context and not a sexual one. In addition, you briefly see a topless woman from a distance being herded away at gunpoint by terrorists (apparently interrupted during a tryst). Lastly, language is constantly severe, with more than 100 "f" words and all variations, including numerous "motherf***er"s. Milder language, like "s**t", "godd**n", and "a*s", is also pervasive.
In short, this movie is a lot of fun to watch, and it has the potential to make a great movie night flick. However, its content can readily be described as excessive, and best geared towards adults.
hell of a movie . it won awards for best action movie lots of action killing blood and drama it a real classic truth is it has some nudity and lots of killing i say 15 and up but trust me watch it it might become your most favorite movie
I saw this movie when I was home sick from school, it's very good and I liked it a lot. I'm confused why Common Sense Media didn't give any rating for violence, but whatever. It was mildly violent, and would probably earn a PG-13 rating for violence now-a-days. However, there's some swearing (about 15-20 f-words and maybe 10 s-words, mixed in with other mild language). But nothing too bad.
Looking back from this early day of 2009, all the way baxk to the 80's when this was ,ade. And quite frankly it doens't change a thing, besides the picture(HD quality we have today) you wouldnt be able to tell this was made 20+ years ago. The language is horrific, countless F*cks, and many others nostop througout the movie. Intense, and Brilliant.
This movie is great and a lot of fun but parents might want to watch it first. There are a few scenes when peopl are shot in the head and you see blood and brains on windows and other surfaces. There all also many other scenes of violence and the main character has no shoes the whole movie so his feet become sliced open at one point and bleed for a considerable part of the movie. There are also many scenes that have strong language, with up 70 f-words including Mclains catch phrase yippe-ki-yay mother f-cker.I would have to say that this movie is 15 and up unless parents feel that there kids can handle it.
If you want action, Die Hards got it. I've watched this movie at least 5 times and I haven't gotten tired of it. I'd recommend it to any fan of the "action" genre and guarantee you won't be disappointed. As for content, there is strong, bloody violence (when people are shot you see blood splatter). There is around 40 f-words, 10 s-words, and some "god dammit"s. There is a topless photo seen from a distance, and two people who are presumably going to have sex, get interrupted. One character snorts cocaine twice, however it is extremely easy to miss. I think the movie would be fine for a 13 year old, but if parents isn't comfortable, watch it with your kid(s) and you'll find that both of you will have a pleasant time.
This is the best of all Die Hards.
In the entire series, my favorites are part 1 and 3.
There is some graphic violence in the one (all gun wounds and fist fights), exactly 50 uses of f--k and many other profanites such as s--t and a--hole. There is brief topless nudity.
Perfect action movie. Funny and violent and amazing. There are some shootouts and explosions. Every bullet produces a little spurt of blood when hitting someone. One very bloody execution scene where a man is shot point blank in the face; his head starts to explode then we see copious amounts of blood and brain splatter on a window (very abrupt and shocking). A running man's knee explodes after getting shot, sending him flying face first into a glass window. McLane's feet leave a bloody trail, and he is soaked in blood by the end of the movie. There are frequent uses of s--- and f---. Breasts are briefly visable on a woman about to have sex, a poster is seen with bare breasts as well. One character is seen snorting drugs a few times.
