I love the movie i have it on vcr. i have been watching it about every night i think it is hilarious. i dont hink the language is crude or the humor. there are only two time when son of b**** was said and the dirty hoe part i think kids wouldnt know the difference. ohh and when he gets hit in the crotch. it was humor to ry and break a pinata. it is a great move i recommend it for ages 2-13
Don't really need to put anything else in do I? But you probably want my standard brand of review, so here: The movie is bigger and better than the book, which is for the most part, maybe Ted Geisel's (more commonly know as Dr.Seuss) worst works (other than those "Learning To Read" books, you're learning to read if you read any his books PERIOD (unless you're on a morals assignment for your 4th grade teacher)) so this movie is a welcome surprise for people that like good plots.
Terrible movie. Don't let watch.
Suggested MPAA Rating:
NC-17 for strong thematic material, stupidity, sexual content, language, nudity, and double-entendres.
I used to love this movie but just the other day I watched it with my 8 year old bro and I noticed there was quite a bit of dirty jokes... it would fly over most little kids heads (and by little kids I mean anyone under 9) but there still inappropriate... for example with a garden hoe in his hand he says "dirty hoe!" and there is some other sexual and rude jokes... Common Sense Media definitely didn't watch the movie carefully enough since they rated it 5+. This is a hard PG and I think it should be rated PG- 13! It's also really cheap and badly made... DO NOT waste your time!!!
With nonstop comedy, Cat in the Hat will have you rolling on the floor and peeing your pants you'll be laughing so hard!
Oh my goodness! This movie is some of the best work that Mike Myers has ever done! Some of the comedy, which is intended for older audiences watching, may be a bit iffy for younger children but it will generally go over their heads until they are older. When it says that animals are treated poorly, that is not the case. Though both Cat and Alec Baldwin's character talk about and view Nevin's (the dog) in a bad light, they never actually harm the dog in any way. The only real issue you should have as far as language goes is when *spoiler* Cat cuts off his tail at one point. He becomes aware of the fact that he has just chopped off a very important appendage and proceeds to begin exclaiming, "Son of a b----!" but the last word is bleeped out and simultaneously, the screen switches to a view of a kitten wearing a hat, hanging on to a rope, with a caption saying "Hang In There Baby" *End of Spoiler* Otherwise language is not an issue. Throughout the Cat's misguiding during the movie, Conrad and Sally grow closer together and learn good lessons on their journey together to save their home before their mom gets back from work. I strongly recommend this movie as one to watch for families with children around 8+. Comments? Questions? Concerns? Email me: ogormanscommonsense at yahoo. :)
Without all the adult humor, the film might have been a classic
I think Dr. Suess would've been happy with the movie but not with the jokes that makes you want to give the script writers a piece of your mind after showing this to children. The Cats rear-human- end is partley shownwhile he's pretending to be a macanic. In a musical number the cat is about to say the A word but doesn't. In other scene the cat cuts off his tail by accident starting the crude sentance-"Son of a....." It doesn't acctually show him finishing his statement but just the fact that they through it in the movie is dissapointing
Inappropriate movie alert!!! This movie is PG but it should be PG - 13.A kid hit Cat in the privates with a baseball bat. Cat picks up a hoe and says to it "dirty h*e" Not a good movie for kids!!!( It's nothing like the book! I like the book better!)
I loved this movie when I was younger. I think I first watched this when was 4 I don't know... I didn't understand some words like the bad ones before anyways. I'm sorry but I disagree with everyone who thinks it's a bad movie. I watched this movie with my friends when we were 6 and we all laughed at the funny parts. :)
For a movie that was a movie based on a young children's book, it certainly has its fair-share of bad content. This movie is my guilty pleasure movie, because it is based on a kindergarden book even though the vulgar jokes would be hilarious for kids at the young-teen age.
It was a decent movie. Definately not the best, but for kids aged 7-11 it's perfectly fine. I don't see the point in the "son of a ...", because no young children are even going to understand that. It also had many sexual under-meanigs- innappropriate for such age. Parents are scared that their children will understand it. Although this wasn't needed, it's still a good movie.
First off, I thought it was pretty darn funny.
There ARE lots of sexual innuendos, but 8 year olds won't get that stuff, anyway. Otherwise, it's very entertaining and 'punny' and, I think, a movie worth seeing.
Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat is a film adaptation of the book written by Theodor Seuss Geisel. The movie's acting and the script is very dull. No swear words used (one character's swear word got cut off in the middle), even the mild language are at a minimum. There are not much action with basically no violence at all. A dull and boring film that might suit kids.
The movie is terrible! The part where he says I'll hit you and make look like a bloody accident! And when he says you son of a b****. And you dirty hoe. Dr Seuss was probably crying in heaven about how bad the movie is!
