A bit cheesy, but a good Friday night family movie that we all could enjoy. I like the positive message that a act of random kindness can change the world.
I'm surprised nobody mentioned the swearing in the movie. I don't mean profanities ... I mean using God's name in vain (breaking the 3rd commandment) ... which is, of course, worse than profanities.
In movies, we know that when there is violence, murder, adultery, etc,... that it is just pretend. But when you abuse the name of God, that sin is actually happening. It was planned, written, edited, acted out, directed, and repeated every time the movie airs.
What is especially heartbreaking is seeing all the sitcoms now where this swearing is routine ... and even young children are being coached to do it - for laughs.
God's name is Holy ... The first line of the Lord's prayer ... after addressing God, is to say "Hallowed be Your Name".
Is His name hallowed? Holy? Or a punch line?
Are people so immune to it, that they can watch a movie that uses God's name in vain and not even notice????
I WANTED TO SEE SOMETHING LITE. I MUST SAY THAT I WAS AMAZED AT HOW MUCH I ENJOYED THE MOVIE. WHEN I FOUND OUT THAT THE RATINGS WERE LOW, I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. THE PEOPLE ARE NOT ALWAYS RIGHT. YES, IT WAS A PRETTY CLEAN MOVIE; WHICH WAS REFRESHING. ALSO, IT MADE ME THINK. YOU MUST JUDGE IT FOR YOURSELF...GO SEE IT!!! EVEN AT THE END WHEN THE CREDITS WERE ROLLING IT WAS FUNNY. IT WAS WORTH SEEING.
Funny, great story, excellent acting, much better than the first one. A much better plot line, story moral and entertainment. Our whole family loved it!!!
What would YOU do if God asked you to throw everything away (at least it would seem so to you) and build a gigantic boat in your yard? Could you do it? Would you? I feel the movie poses many good questions about our society and would be very useful in facilitating family discussions about family, love, obedience, materialism, etc... And, it was very entertaining!
The CommonSenseMedia review was 100% right. If you're looking for a a very light movie for young kids (<8) and can discuss this movie in terms of faith, then it's worth a rental. I think most of the "highly rated" reviews are from Christians that like "simple" answers in life. Bruce Almighty was a much much better film in that it really touched upon the human condition and that condition in relation to faith and how selfish we ALL are when it comes to our opportunity to be divine. This movie was none of that. As for comedy, shockingly there was very little. Wanda Sykes had the best lines in the movie and that was maybe 5 or so in her few scenes. It really is a G rated Sunday school type movie for young children that begs for much much deeper discussion at the dinner table or the Church.
This was an awesome family movie. Mama liked that papa and baby recognized the Gen 6:14 reference. Nothing objectionable and a good message. Sometimes you have to put aside YOUR plan for HIS plan.
In my view, there are so few family films out there that are completely entertaining for all ages AND which contain nothing that will make you cringe to have your little ones seated right beside you in the theater. If you're the kind of parent who thinks like I do, then here is a great movie for you -- you do not need to hesitate.
The story is sweet and funny -- Steve Carell and Wanda Sykes are hilarious. They used real animals during the filming (no fake computerized ones) and they are AMAZING to watch. My 6 year old daughter and her 7 year old friend laughed out loud and were riveted the entire time -- they were on the edge of their seats during the last part (which I won't give away). There were preschool-age kids seated next to us and they were enthralled too.
You don't have to be religious to appreciate the sweet message of the importance of spending quality time with family, not being concerned with petty things like outward appearance, having faith in what you believe in, and spreading acts of random kindness.
I can't wait until it comes out on dvd so we can watch it a few more times at home. This is a very special and unique film.
My family and I really enjoyed this movie until Evan used a profanity. People are really ruining movies by throwing profanities in unnecessarily. This DVD didn't have language rating on the cover. Otherwise I would not have bought it.
