Disgusting
I first came across this foul movie when I took my son to the video store to pick a movie to rent for the weekend. He picked this one and I looked at the cover. It looked like an average kid's family flick. When we got home we watched the video and mere minutes in, the female protagonist took her clothes off showing us gratuitous shots of her breasts and buttocks, the parts of the body god wants covered by undergarments at all times. She also jumped off a building, something I'm worried my son will now try to imitate. I turned off the video in shock and my son then asked me "Ma, where do babies come from" his mind horribly disfigured by this satanic filth. I am angry and outraged and I would like this movie to be banned.

Anime's Finest
I believe I know enough about GITS now to formally write a review. I first saw GITS when I was about 12 or 13, and since then have bought the DVD and watched it around 15 times or so. Many people complain that the nudity, language, and violence 'hurt' the film's image, but you have to remember that its a downplay from the rather more explicit Manga. Yes, Motoko has breasts, now get over it (plus they're cybernetic, so I don't see what the problem is). Yes, a man's head explodes in a shower of blood. Yes, the police force flings out curse words; would you expect them to say "goshdarnit he got away"? GITS delves deep into the human psyche, and attempts to unravel philosophical mysteries. Even after so many viewings, choice scenes still mystify me with their complexity and trail of reasoning. Despite all of these 'content' complaints hurled at GITS, I recommend seeing it for yourself and getting some part of the experience I felt, of feeling much dumber. Don't forgot to see the sequel, which has even more philosophical questions sans the 'distasteful' content.

Please ignore the last review because the nudity isn't THAT bad. The women who "took off her clothes" was wearing a camo outfit. It would be silly to put your clothes while wearing a camo outfit. And yes, there is graphic violence. I saw this with my 13-year-old and it was not that bad. He and I watch it every time!

well
It's awesome if you don't mind Motoko being topless in most of the movie. It's best if you watch it once you're out of the house because it will make parents uncomfortable. It's good for single guys who like violence and boobs, though.

Questionable Content Abounds in Entertaining Film
While quite an entertaining film, the content is something to worry about. Nudity and language scar what could have been at least a low PG-13 rated film. While the nudity is not shown in a sexual way it was uncalled for and unneeded. The language, while not overly thrown into the dialogue was still some pretty strong stuff. I believe there were either 2 or 3 F-words. While a fun watch, it is not for the whole family. 16+ on this title.

First, a quick question...
How does this look like a typical family flick? Because it's animated? Wow, what shallow thinking. Yeah, let's ignore the rating on the box, it's animated! Come on, it doesn't take much to see the naked woman on the cover! I bet anyone who assumed this was a family film also thinks South Park is for kids! Animation is not just for children, sheesh! Also, to the reviewer two reviews below... you're exaggerating. Anyway, this truly is a visual splendor and it has an interesting story to it. If you're old enough and an anime fan, it's worth checking out.

A good movie for adults and older teens.
This is a really good movie for adults, and I do mean adults. There is nudity and graphic violence, and a great deal of moral ambiguity. I have no concerns about this movie as it is an adult movie. When choosing movies it is important to pay attention to the rating, not everything animated is for children. The plot is very deep and asks such questions as what makes a human a human, what the soul (or 'ghost') is, at what point do we cross over from man to machine, an is it possible to cross over the other way? etc

An awesome movie that sparks deep thought in you
It is a very deep movie. Obviously not intended at children, this movie definitely makes you wondering what IS the spirit, what is the one thing that defines humanity and what is the one thing that separates us from machines. As for Barbara Chandler's review, do you really have to call somebody else's masterpiece "satanic filth“? Have you ever watched it without your kids before? Did you ever know that this movie spouts more philosophical questions than you could ever dream of? And in what way is this a mere kid flick? Just because its animated doesn't mean that its a child's flick, get that into your head. This movie is philosophy incarnate and you're dissing it just because the main character, a robot flashed her boobs/ass at your child. The cover obviously has partial nudity in it and you should have known this was coming, and yet why the @!$% did you buy it? You're insulting my all-time favourite movie just because it looks like porn.

Very Beautiful Film, but Keep an Eye Out for Content!
GitS is an awesome film but be forewarned that it is really 16+ and it has many issues. There is a LOT of nudity (which offended me a little bit). Also there's graphic violence and some strong language like f**k, s**t, and a**hole. I still like this movie.

Brilliant movie that is not for kids
I want to start by saying this movie is fantastic, it is very deep and causes you to think. I first saw this movie when I was 13 and at first I like it because it had explosions, but as I watched it more and more as the years went on, I began to see just how deep this movie was. That being said, when I become a parent, this is NOT a movie i'd want my child to see until he was much older than I was. It is a very adult movie with enough language, violence and nudity to go around. (The nudity is explained as such: thermal camouflage, or invisibility if you will, only cloaks your body, not your clothing. This explanation is totally valid in the realm of science. Especially if the main character is a Cyborg (in this case a robot with a human brain)). Also, at such a young age kids won't get much out of this movie anyway other than AWESOME EXPLOSIONS!. So while I would not recommend this to kids, this movie is a MUST SEE for anyone 18+

Barbara Chandler - worlds dumbest person
I have not seen this movie I just want to say something about the "review" that Barbara Chandler wrote; first off about 80% of the animes out there are not intended for children and before I buy a film I always do research on it, that's common sense (which is ironic given the name of this website, most of you parents seem to lack common sense). Also how can you say that the cover looks like a family film, it has a naked female with a gun on it, yeh that screams FOR FAMILY VIEWING!!! Secondly, I do not give into that brainwashing, predjudice, hypocritical cult you call Christianity, but the art and paintings of Christianity always have some form of nudity in them and Adam and Eve were naked in Eden, I also don't understand why God would want some thing natural that he "created" covered up, so you statement about God I call B*LLSH*T!!! Finally why are you blaming the film, for something that is clearly your falut? Why do you want it banned and runin it for many people that actally like this film, just because you're an irrespnsible parent? How f*cking selfish of you. You're either the worlds dumbest person or you're a troll, but hey what do I expect from the monronic over protective parents of america.

EVERYONE CALM DOWN
The film is amazing and i personally think people need to calm down. parents are convinced that children see a breast and we are scarred for life. Ok so admittedly its not for young kids nor immature kids, but i am a 14 year old girl, i watched it and loved it, it sits proudly next to my other anime dvds. the point is the nudity is tasteful, not sexual or erotic. The nudity is needed to set the scene in a way, when they create the robot, do you expect them to have censors? anyone overreacting is probably protective of their child, and if they are protective of their child, it makes them an idiot to have not considered the 15 age rating!! it is an amazing films about phycological issues which dazzle me! go watch it right now its amazing!!!.. if you are not going to faint -_-

Good but not for kids
A good, complex movie with strong action and an interesting plot. Because of that, it's a pity about the content. I'm afraid I just would not want my kid hear f-words and seeing this much nudity. That said, its a good movie for adults with strong moral constitutions. If you're looking for good anime as an alternative to something as questionable as this, check out Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex and Ghost in the Shell SAC 2nd Gig. I think they were better anyway.

We'll wait a few years on this one.
Profanity and violence aren't as graphic as it has been described, but the nudity is a problem. No one under 14, which is a shame since my son wanted to see this.
