If you can handle the fiery, prolonged execution of one character, you're fine.
A wonderful movie, moving, brilliant and subtle. It is violent and Percy's a horrible character-- honestly one of the worst I've ever seen-- but overall it's a very positive and surprisingly uplifting tearjerker that makes the viewer take a second look at their own lives.

Not recommended for under 11, or for sensitive people.
Apparently, this movie got a reputation for being better than the book. I can not say that, considering I have not read the book. But I can say that this is the best movie I have ever seen! It is my top favourite! Tom Hanks, David Morse, and Michael Clarke Duncan in their finest roles! However, there is some mild suggestive sexual content including parents finding there daughters raped and bloody in the arms of John Coffey. But that and the execution are the only really bad scenes. Not recommended for sensitive people (I cried at the end). This movie is surely a masterpiece, and I will kill the people who didn't give any awards! You hear that? NO AWARDS!

Emotional roller-coaster, a must-see for those mature enough.
This is a very, very good movie. It's definitely an emotional roller-coaster, but will leave you with a very warm feeling at the end. I can't really say anymore without giving away the story... Definitely not for kids 13 or under, as it is very sad and graphic at parts. The cruelty displayed in some scenes is nearly unbearable, especially for children. The plot would be very hard for a child to wrap his head around, and the execution scene, and the flashbacks of the rape/murder of two little girls would perhaps give him/her nightmares. There is one comical sex scene, however only the sounds are heard from outside of the window. This movies shows the best and worst in humanity, and should definitely be seen by everyone at some point in their life.

This is one of my favorite movies. Thier is one scene in the movie which is very graphic and disturbing. The is also quite a bit of language.

Incredibly moving, powerful film
I can not say I saw Coffey's execution in full detail, as I got the edited version. The language was coarse at times, and the violence (or what I got of it) was strong and brutal. It is deeply moving, and makes you think what has currently become of humanity, and also has some sci-fi in there for the Trekkies. I believe everybody should see this movie before they visit their "mile."

Uh, I've Read The Books....
I haven't exactly seen the movies, but I'm in the middle of book 5 of the series (Percy's kind of in the middle of being forced into a straightjacket). I love the books, though! I love Tom Hanks, too, but I don't think my mother'll let me see the actual thing...which almost doesn't make sense, considering the bad language and violence is in the books, too. Whatever. I'll just resort to Shrek and Harry Potter for now.

Magical
I loved the character of John Coffey. My parents pretty much forced me to watch this movie last year, and I actually really liked it. I thought I was gonna be bored for three hours but that was far from the case.

This masterpiece is a tear-jerker for mature pre-teens and teens
The Green Mile is one of the best Stephen King's book-movie adaptions I have ever seen. It is very moving and intense, and can be very disturbing at times. Especially the execution scene. And I will admit, I did cry. The movie will move you, make you laugh, give you heartbreak, and will make you cry. But it is very mature. Young children will not be able to handle the execution scene. My suggested MPAA rating, R: Disturbing violence, explicit pervasive language, sex-related material, and strong thematic content

I loved this movie. I watched it in Costa Rica with my family. I know I put this was 16+, but my little sister who's 8 watched this movie and loved it. It's an excellent tear jerker that will leave you pondering until the end. Beautiful movie. Some intense violent executions and things like that, but it's very quick. This movie is extremely under rated. Whoever rated this must like movies that suck like "The Ant Bully", "Where the Wild Things Are", and probably listens to Cold Play. No, just kidding. Seriously, though, don't look at the stars. You fall in love with the characters as you watch the movie. Amazing!

"A masterpiece! Darabont manages another honerable King adaption!" -Me
"Tom Hanks, Michael Clarke Duncan, and Bonnie Hunt star in this great film epic that you just don't want to end! Death scenes are both intense and disturbing, yes, but it helps you grasp the feel of being one of the prisoners! Listening, watching, WAITING for the execution that you know will end your life. Tom Hanks is great as prison guard Paul Edgecomb. As does Duncan as the accused double-murderer, John Coffey. The only let down is the language which is both continuous and explicit. But positive messages fill this very close adaption to the belovedStephen King novel. Such as how God is the almighty, trust, love, forgiveness, loyalty, and sticking up for what's right, no matter the consequences. At age 12, it was the first movie I'd ever cried in the end of. (I'm sorry, I just don't cry from The Notebook. Seen it 3 or 4 times, never cried. Maybe when I'm older.)And to this day is one of the only two movies I've ever cried in. It's a wonderful, breathtaking, and marvelous journey into another world(not literally)...except you never leave your Living Room. Go see it, I highly recommend it!"

Terrific movie! One of my favorites! I think the best part was Sam Rockwell's performance of "Wild Bill"!

The Green Mile can be oh so long.
I read the book recently and I've seen the movie five times and it definitly is one of the best stories ever. The film is truthfully not very heavy in most areas. There is a lot of cursing including racial slurs and there are a few sexual references. The violence is not traditional prison violence. Their are few inmates so there is a different type of violence. There is a scene where a man tries choking a guard and it is one of the more violent scenes. Not a very heavy scene though. An inmate's hand is broken by a guard. It isn't a very violent scene. A guard shoots an inmate to death, and an inmate innapropriatly touches a guard, again, very brief. The violence is not heavy or explicit and worse is found in common video games and most modern movies, such as The Dark Knight. There are three execution scenes in the film an one can be very scary for most viewers. A man is burned to a crisp. The other two are mild. There is really no drug use. The most adult aspect of the story is the story itself. The story is a very dramatic story about a man with the power of healing. It is a very emotional film that takes a humane person to watch it. Young people can see the conflicts and discuss the problems and become attached to the characters and feel the emotions of them. I recommend that anybody that has an understanding of life watch this film. If your child can handle a dramatic film then I think they should definitly see it.

Best Movie Ever!
I just watched this film last night, and I was absolutely mesmorized. It is no doubt, my favourite film. It has got and extravagent storyline, brilliant acting and the script is awesome. Although, I don't think it is suitable for kids, unless they are very, very mature. There is one scene in which a certain character is executed, but a wet sponge was not placed on the victim's head, and so, he literally frazzled to death. There is just screaming for that whole 2 mins. Very graphic, I think that if you were to let your child watch this, definately leave out that scene. Some other violence, including a man being shot several times, bloody marks on his chest, and there is also an upsetting scene in which the main character ( well, one of them), is executed. There are some sexual references, and a sex scene, although it is heard, for about 10 seconds, and not seen. Some swear words, f*** about 7 times, the word n*gg*r is used against John Coffey, mostly spoken by 'Wild Bill'. There are some references to a man raping and killing two little girls, but the actual rape is not seen. Viewers, even adults, will probably cry at this film, as it is extraordinary at really making you feel a part of it. I reccomend for about teens, maybe younger if your child is really, really mature. Thanks for reading. :)

Great movie
I saw this movie when I was 10 and I loved it. It's very inspiring and it has great actors too. The part when they show the flashback of the guy raping and killing those girls was pretty brutal and very hard for me to keep watching but I did. The black man is very cool the way he could take the sicnince out of people was great. The funniest part was when Tom hanks asked the black man what he wanted to do the day before he would go the mile (get put in the electric chair) the black man replies he always wanted to see the sound of music I think. Very inspiring but very sad had to fight tears back as much tears as marley and me
