Rare...parent with young kids who love this movie
I am one of the rare parents who allow my 4 and 6 year old kids to watch this and the first Harry Potter movies. The movies after these too are just WAY too intense for my kids and won't allow them to watch them until they are MUCH older. Socerer's Stone is one of the two I don't mind them watching. Yes, there are parts that parents should definitely talk to their kids about (death of Harry's parents, unicorn death, Voldemort's possession of Quirrel, Quirrel's death). Those parts and a few others our 4 year old still wants to have clarified when he watches. But he is obsessed with this movie! He and our daughter love the fantasy and magic of it all. I have made HUGE deal about all of it being pretend, just a story. My kids have embraced that and are able to enjoy movies like this without negative repercussions. I particularly like the fact that my 6 year old can see how strong and smart a girl Hermoine is compared to all the other characters. Again, I am the rare parent who knows what my children are able to deal with and understand. Parents...watch it first and decide for yourself!!!

Great for getting my child to be interested in reading
I love that my daughter is crazy over Harry Potter and I give this movie all the credit for her reading level jumping from remedial to advanced last year. After seeing the movie, she was determined to read the book on her own and then started reading the second one. I love the messages of loyal friendship in this movie.

great movie
another great film staring my favorite actor Daniel Radcliffe. but not for kids under the age of 7.
- I rate this title iffy for age 15 and give itMy concerns are:
- Excessive violence
- Negative role models
inappropriate for most
While many fantasy movies contain magic elements this one is nowhere close to the clear morality or dominion established in the works of Tolkien. The harry potter series is inappropriate for minors who are not already WELL formed morally. The harry potter series presents a host of logical contradictions, and most troubling endorses subjective morality. While I found the movies entertaining they were also irksome on too many points to allow my children to watch them or read the books.
Lives in Ohio- I rate this title on for age 8 and give itMy concerns are:
- Excessive violence
It's a good movie, but there are some scary scenes at the end. I think even at 8, you have to know your child and what scares them. I would not think it appropriate to show this to a child under 8.

Could be scary for a 7 year old with a good imagination.
It' a great movie and a great series. My daughter (7) really enjoyed the Sorcerer's Stone book, but the movie scared her. I was surprised that the book was rated appropriate for ages 9 & up and the movie was rated appropriate for 7 & up. The movie might have been ok for her, up until the scene near the end with an especially scary character appears on the back of another character's head. In this case, an exact image of the villain was scarier than her imagination.

A movie everyone wants to see!
I rate this title iffy for age 8 and give itAn excellent start to an excellent series!
This is an excellent movie for the whole family! This is a fun movie to watch, and though the atmosphere of the movie is light, the story is actually rather dark. Younger kids will find voldemort, the troll and the three headed dog frightening. 9 year olds should do fine watching this movie, but sensitive 7 and 8 year olds should not watch this movie. Know your kid. I rccomend this movie to non sensitive 8 year olds and up!

A Magical Ride for the Family!
I read almost all of the HARRY POTTER books before I saw the movies. I was on #4 out of 7 before I saw THE SORCERER'S STONE, but I loved it. What we have in HARRY POTTER is a strange concoction. Magic, wizardry, and exotic creatures are mixed with normal circumstances that are reminisent of a normal junior high school. Though, strange this potion works wonderfully. No language, sex or drugs. Violence is iffy for anyone under 10 or 11 if they're easily scared. Characters are loyal friends who end up risking their lives for one another. Great family film. Highly recommended.

GREAT
Really great movie, but the series does get darker as it goes along. Harry and his friends do go against authority and break rules, and the positive consequences of that might steer kids off a bit. Nothing a good conversation with parents won't fix.

Good Movie, Good for Kids
Harry Potter is a very good movie kids would love. The violence is often a little big. The kids are always in peril and never safe. At the end a teacher dies and then people are hurt the whole movie.

Book is much better.......
The film was alright, but the book beat it by far. The music score was wonderful and the acting was divine though. Go read the book instead this Christmas....

Great
It was a great movie and a little violent. It isn't educational unless you're a wizard. I would'nt say it had good role models because the kids are constantly breaking roles and getting in trouble. Morale: Never trust people wearing turbans!

AN AWESOME MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved this Movie!! Just like the book, it was a little boring, but it it awesome!! The only scary scene (For some kids 7 and under.) was when Harry was confronted by Quirrel/Voldemort. Flying keys are NOT scary!! The unicorn scene was not very violent either. I would recomend this movie to kids 7+.

Good Movie
Ah, the first Harry Potter movie. Its also my favorite. Me and my 8 year old brother watch it all the time, the only bad part is at the end where the man takes off his turban. That scares my brother.

So much like the book...
As I said the movie is very much like the book. I had just read the book and then I watched the movie. The thing that i noticed in the movie was that harry was always standing up to to other people like Malfoy, Snape, and Queriell.

Fabulous
READ IT. Read them all. Read the first and your hooked till the end.

Faithful...however...
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is a very faithful adaption to JK Rowling's book. Apart from this, Chris Columbus tests his skills at directing in what could have been, with the perfect amount of care, a four star movie recieving Oscar nods. Columbus's rather novice directing skills and less-than-stellar crew make this a "ehh, whatever" sort of movie for fans of the book. As I stated earlier, while the movie was pretty faithful to the book, the cinemetography and character development was rather poor. On a more positive side, the character CHOICE was excellent (even if the kids aren't the greatest actors they sure do look like the characters!, and SUPERB veteran cast), and it introduced millions more to the Harry Potter fad.

this is one of my favorite movie series!!!!!!
you should def watch this movie! it is not the best movie for christains but if your strong in your faith i would def suggest watching it.now i must note that it in no way insults christianity or any other religion.its biggest thng I think is it shows what true friends are, true perserverence, bravery. And a great battle of good verses evil. it shows that the right path might not always be the easiest Harry takes it anyway. and it shows that good triumphs over all.theres VERY little language, it does have some frightening images but i didn't find them too scary.I watched the first movie when I was 9 or 10 and i found some scenes a bit scary. I love the whole series the content in it never really changes throughout the movies theres very little language and some frightening images, it get alittle more intense as it goes on,but not too much. in the 5th movie theres a kissing scene but it isn't bad at all. they def did the books justice. I would def recommend to watch the whole series.

love the books and the movies (except #2) were wonderful
I thought that the characters were brilliantly cast, throughout the entire series, particularly, Fred and George Weasley (James and Oliver Phelps) and Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham-Carter) in The Order of the Pheonix. (Its always a challenge to play the bad guys) I am glad that they didn't stray too far away from the books.
