Great Choice for an Older Family Movie Night
I am a freshman in high school, and my brother is two years younger. I say 12 is about the bottom age for this for two reasons. 1, there is some pretty intense language. Never in a dirty way, but sometimes as an insult. It’s usually casual, and with a heavy accent, so for an uncultured American teen, most of it is pretty easy to ignore. And 2, there is some pretty intense violence, and in the form of domestic abuse, which is pretty horrible. It is in a few intense bursts throughout the movie, mostly in flashbacks, and it is usually predictable, so if you want to cover your younger persons eyes, that would often work. All in all, if you think your younger person can handle the language, and are ready for the violence, it’s up to your discretion.
That said, this is a fantastic movie! It’s really inspiring to see the protagonist really take control of her life. There are moments of humor, as well as a truly touching story. I would definitely recommend this movie!
