Good for younger kids
Its good for kids younger then 12. I took my 12 year old and he didnt like it. My 8 year old did. Its a movie thrown towards younger kids. Of course i didnt enjoy it all but i guess it would be good for younger kids.

Got to know your child
My son loved it. My daughter didn't even want to be in the same room while it was playing because it was too gross. She and I did something else together. Parents, this move is painful to watch as an adult (i.e. no thinking required, gross and over acted, which is why fourth grade boys probably love it).

LOOSELY based on the IDEA behind the book
This movie was okay. My biggest disappointment was that they completely changed the point of the book. The book really didn't have anything to do about bullying and the bet was made between 2 kids and they both had input. It was decided that the one kid would provide the worms, but the kid eating them got to choose how they would be fixed. In the movie, the "bully" not only provided the worms, but he had his gang make up the most vile concoctions they could think of, which left me thinking, "I wouldn't eat that even if it DIDN'T have a worm in it." I agree lots of kids will eat that up, but I'll warn you now, it is very revulting. The movie is fine, but it could have been much better if they hadn't felt like they had to change it around so that they could make a social statement.

Rude 'n crude, but fine for kids 8+
Sexual Content (Not an Issue): We briefly see animated Woody's bare bottom. A teacher says "bust of Nefertiti" and students laugh. Woody tells Billy to stop hitting his bike, "it's hurting my dilly dink." Violence (Not an Issue): We see an animated character start to fill up with blood and die, but it's played for laughs and very lightly. Language (Pause): Two child-based slang terms for male genitals ("dilly dink"). Social Behavior (Pause): Joe and his thugs have a condescending, bad attitude towards Billy and Erica. Seeing as this is a movie about consuming worms, crude humor is prevalent. Commercialism (Not an Issue): None. Drug/Alcohol/Tobacco (Not an Issue): None.

Good one for parent and child.
My 5 yr old son enjoyed this movie. A few times he got a bit nervous and wanted to leave because he was anxious about what might happen. There is a "witch" in the movie that creates a bit of suspense. He thought it was disgusting to think about eating the worms and said something about wanting to throw-up like the main character goes on about but he got over it. I had to calm him down a couple of times by reminding him that the worms weren't real and neither was the witch. Overall, it was a mildly exciting movie, safe for my 5 yr old and I would suspect most. There was a great message about friendship and doing the right thing. Sort of a novelty these days.

Very Bully-centric
My 9-year old son was entertained, BUT I felt too much of the "entertainment" is at the expense of other characters...lots of teasing, name-calling, bullying, victimizing, etc. I almost wish we hadn't watched it, even though everyone "makes nice" in the end...Try "Hoot" (environmental message) or "Holes" (for older kids) instead.

Loved this movie!
I watched this movie with my 8 year old son. I'd read the book, so I knew the story. Since my son is very small for his age, he gets bullied on the playground by kids he doesn't know, and I knew he would really connect with the theme. I loved the ending. And I especially loved how real and natural the kids were in this movie -- like real kids. I'm sure we'll be watching this DVD a lot in the next few months. A winner!!
