Don’t fall for the PG rating, that’s only cuz it old movie if it modern day it would definitely be PG-13

Overall pretty good movie, has a few cuss words but a lot less than a lot of new movies similar to this. More gory than original tho, someone’s heart is ripped right out of their chest as part of a seriously f****d up demonic ritual, but the person’s chest magically heals right away for some reason. Very important to consider that even tho it’s rated PG it DEFINITELY would not be PG today they only did that cause there was no PG-13 back then, but overall it’s probably fine for most tweens and older. Also innocent kids are beaten and starved to death and people have to eat bugs.

my thoughts...

There's more gore and gross-outs than the other Indy blockbusters.

12+?!

Although I personally was not disturbed by anything in this film, it is very dark and gruesome. I did not see the rock grinder scene, the sacrifice or the lamp hanging scene so I have not experienced the full movie. 8 year old kids are beaten (one kid is extremely thin). During the film it is implied that children starve to death. As an Indiana Jones movie, it is not as supernatural as the first and third films. It is a very good film and I love the feast in the palace. Kids that are easily disturbed should wait until at least 14.

Goriest of Indiana Jones.

While most of the movie was fine for 11 or 12 year-olds there was one extremely gory scene that may not be as good for kids at 11.

An iconic but extremely satanic, idealistic sequel to the beloved Raiders film

There's no chance this review will get seen considering the number there already are, but what the heck? Indiana Jones 2 isn't as classic as I'd consider 1 and 3 (we don't talk about 4). Sure, it's got those iconic action scenes and entertaining character dynamics. But what it largely lacks is the scale of the other films. Though the story is captivating, it lacks adventure across varying terrain and culture like 1 and 3. It also heavily relies on demonic and possessive material which shouldn't be enjoyable for anyone to watch. There's lots of implied cannibalism through the antagonists and some are even shown. Basically, even if you love Indiana Jones (like me), it's best to skip this one as the majority of its atmosphere greatly differs from the other films. I give this movie 2/5 stars and 14+ for a dark and disturbing plot.

Gross, Demonic, and too Sexy

This should not be rated PG. Indiana Jones tries to help an impoverished village in India whose sacred stone has been taken and all their children stolen by the Thugge Cult. These kids are forced to dig for gems under Pankot Palace and are whipped regularly on screen. The Thugge cult rituals, practices, and human sacrifices are gruesomely shown on screen. A man's heart is ripped out by hand and held up in front of the Thugge congregation while the young man (who is still alive and screaming) is lowered in a body cage deep into a lava pit. His heart catches fire when he is subermerged and turns into a stone which is then placed on a demon-like skull altar decorated with detached bloody and rotting arms as well as children's fingers. At a fancy dinner at Pankot Palace, monkey brains are served out of a monkey's head, eyeballs in soup, Beatles being broken open and slurped into mouths, and a dead mother snake is cut open while her babies slither out and are popped into people's mouths like candy. A doll is made that can be tortured to hurt Dr. Jones. Black blood is poured into his mouth from a mummified skull. This movie is also way too Sexy to be PG. Kids who have no idea what Sex is are likely to be very confused for one very long scene where Indiana and the preppy blonde singer Willie are discussing how they should spend their night together. Not to mention that naked women statues are caressed in the movie too. The positive aspects of this movie like friendship and kindness towards strangers are sadly outweighed by the disgusting rituals, sex references, creepy cult voodoo, dead bodies, and very gruesome ways to die.

What a Film

Unlike the first film, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom is definitely more gory. There are several scenes that I would not recommend for anyone younger than 11 to watch including: somebody's heart being ripped out and there is also a scene when you see lots of gross food being eaten like monkey brains served in the dead monkey's head, eyeball soup and a massive dead snake with smaller living snakes inside. Also if you are watching this after the first one and are hoping for there to be a female role model as strong as the last one then you should know that this film does not portray women in a good way and she is looked upon as annoying and stupid. The story line is also paper thin as they refer to an important crystal and don't refer to it at all in the rest of the film. To conclude, I did like the humour and I thought it showed just how hard some people's lives are (referring to the Indian village).
