Inglourious Basterds earns its R-rating many times over. Even some teenagers will likely be upset/terrified by some of the brutal violence. That being said, this movie is genius. I was enthralled the entire running time, and my mind was blown by the brilliant dialogue, fascinating characters, and wildly thrilling plot. I disagree with CommonSense that it is only for adults - mature, slightly older teens can definitely watch this movie.
I was really looking forward to this movie. Unfortunately, there's a difference between this and Pulp Fiction: Pulp Fiction's dialogue was interesting. But that's just me. Brad Pitt was fabulous, and the story was original. The violence was stylish and well-directed, and some dialogue scenes were worthy. But, for the love of God, does a dialogue scene have to go on for twenty minutes?! Make that two scenes?! I don't think so. Parents: There's not a lot of violence here, but the violent scenes that are here are extremely, shockingly graphic, including scalping, slicing, and shooting. There's also an extremely brief sex scene and strong language. Bottom Line: If you're a fan of Tarantino, then see it, and judge for yourself. Otherwise, stick with Pulp Fiction. Thanks for reading! - Movie Man
a lot of things are not for kids in this movie but thats what ratings are for. some cases they dont use their best judgement but here they did. excellent film. do i think its the best WWII movie ever? absolutely not but it was well worth the money :)
I love this movie. I am 18, and I think this movie is fine to watch as long as you are 16 or older. I wouldn't want most kids younger than that viewing this. It is very violent and uses extensive expletives. It also depends on the kid. A few 15 year olds could watch this and not be disturbed, but there are some 17 or 18 year olds that would find it offensive. It really depends on the maturity and sensitivity of the kid.
Remember this is a Quentin Tarantino film. If you don't know him he is famous for mixing art and violence. The film is intelligent due to the great script and performances that he makes in his movies. His style is this, 20 minutes of talking and then 5 minutes of constant shooting and killing. And the killings are both strong and graphic, so if you don't like blood/gore don't watch this film. There is a brief scene (like 5 seconds) of a man having sex with a woman. There is constant swearing in the dialogues between the characters, with the f words, like any other Quentin Tarantino script. The problem with this movie is that it lacks heart or any moral message, nor I consider this movie to be Quentin's masterpiece. All the characters of this movie are bad and make monstrous actions, does the tittle of this movie. If there is any message is that there are no heroes in war, all victims of each other's hatred, does I view this film as a great anti-war film. If you like a film with great direction, great performances, an impressive script and don't mind the strong graphic sequences then I suggest this movie. NOT appropriate for kids under 17 due to the graphic killings and strong language!!!!
This movie was just fantastic! Tarantino's best i would think! This movie really wasn't as violent as i thought though. I thought it was gonna be gory but what I saw was violence that is also shown in any other war movie. And the swearing! Its a rated R war movie, what did you think!?!?!?!? Over all the movie was good (besides the "comedic" sex scene.
inglorius basterds is a well crafted ww2 revenge story. the movie is mostly talking but the smarts some bad guys have just intrigs you more. their is a few graphic scalpings and a man is killed with a bat. their is some throught slysing and a man gets shot many times in the balls. the shooting scene at the end is graphic when the show somebodys face get distroyed by a machine gun. also there is a graphic cutting at the end. may seem alot but there is alot of talking between those scenes. also a girl gets chocked to death and there is a random sex scene breif but graphic. in the end the movie is awsome
I honestly have no ideal why it says "Not For Kids" on here. The movie really isn't that bad except for a few scenes of graphic violence and language. The main reason i think someone wouldn't like this movie is because there is a lot of talking in it and not a whole lot of action. And when i say a lot of talking, i mean "A LOT". Im a huge Tarantino fan and i do like this film, but not as much as i would've hoped to. It does deserve it's R rating though because while there isn't a whole lot of violence, it is graphic and brutal when it's shown from everything from people getting beating to death with baseball to people getting strangled. There is also a good amount of swearing but it's actally pretty light for a Tarantino film. There's also a very very quick shot of a man and women having sex, but the shot is so quick it's not explicit and actally funny. I'd say it's ok for High Schoolers that won't mind all the talking in the movie and can handle the violent scenes.
Let's face it this is an AMAZING movie, but not for kids. It's Taratino, he does NOT make movies for kids. There's swearing, murder, betrayal, blood, gore, explosions...the list goes on and on. It's war. It's a side of the war against Nazi Germany that we wish had happened but didn't. This is one of Tarantino's best. There is action and tension from beginning to end. Loved every second.
Powerful, funny, brutal, witty, and many more. This movie is a great film for all Brad Pitt fans and Nazi haters. Delivered explosive action scenes and crude humor that you would expect from a Quentin Tarantino film. A must see.
i saw the movieand my thirteen year old son saw it because he is very mature for his age and wants to be a diirector/actor/stand up comedian and it was two thirds talk and only like 6 scenes of violence all under a minute
