Some swears like co*k, Fu*k, and bit*h. And mild kissing. A short bed scene and some more from time to time. But the ladies in this movie are good roll models.
I thought this movie was great and my daughter and I read the CSM reviews before deciding to see it. She liked it a lot and it has even inspired her to learn some simple French cooking (omlets ala Julia Child style). However, there was a surprise scene with from SNL, Dan Ackroyd imitating Julia Child cutting up a chicken with blood spurting out all over the place after he/she chops off a finger. The movie characters are laughing hysterically at this but the blood freaked out my sensitive 9-year old. Oops! Just thought you'd like to know.
JULIE AND JULIA is a fun, charming, and funny movie that isn't perfect, but makes two enjoyable hours fly by. This is, for the most part, due to the two leading actresses: Meryl Streep and Amy Adams. They create in the film an atmosphere of fun and wit, helped by the script from writer/director Nora Ephron that is bursting with wit, charm, and laughs. The film has some strong but infrequent profanity. "D**n" is used three times (twice as "godd**n"), and "b**ch" is used four or five times. A character remarks that a noodle is "hot as a stiff c**k", and "f**k" is used once in a non-sexual context. Married couples are shown tumbling around a bit, but it is not explicit in any way. Both leads are great, strong role models.
This movie was fine for adults or mature teenagers, but why would you want kids younger than teens exposed to the bad language? This movie has nothing to offer younger kids.
perfect for us older kids who saw julia child on tv . . .
--------- i sat there with tears behind my eyelids at re-seeing julia child (streep is spot on... ) and finding out she had a husband and colleagues (with whom she disagreements ) and that the book being published didn't fall in her lap - and laughing at her pecadillos and julie's literary trials and tribulations . . .
The charcaters in this movie are very good roll models towards people that have an interest in cooking. It shows tons of perseverance. I highly recommend this movie.

Many swears are used in insults. |||| Drinks : A few here and there |||| good message : yes good one! All about never giving up and following you're heart!
Good messages about pursuing your dream in spite of criticism. Very tame for a pg-13 movie. Language aren't sexual references isn't any worse than what you'd hear on TV. Sex is off-screen and restricted to married couples.
Very good, I thought. I love Meryl Streep, what an actress! She's just amazing. Amy Adams is perfect. Loved the story. A tad slow but worth it. Excellent food! Great messages about sticking to your ultimate dream and making it happen, despite what anyone thinks. Fun to watch with the girls! Good for 12+ and up, I wouldn't think younger kids would be the least bit interested.
This movie will probably be appreciated more by older children rather than younger children. Some one mentioned that this movie is tame for a pg13 movie and I agree. A couple language issues but very mild compared to so many other movies. Of course Meryl Streep nails Julia Child, but Amy Adams is also very good, and she is attired/made up to look like the actual Julie Powell character she plays. It was interesting to learn the story of how Julia Child trained and persevered to become the cook she was. Recommended for family viewing.
Finally able to thoroughly enjoy a movie without over-added profanity, sex and cheap humor!! You won't come out of the theatre having wasted your ticket money paying for a movie that endorsing everything you try to teach your kids NOT to do!! Different story line and just an all-around fun, cute movie.
This movie is a great discussion-launcher. It is well made and weaves stories of two different women in two different eras each discovering what to do next.
They both end up cooking, but for different reasons. They both have strong, supportive husbands. Without these guys, I don't think they would have succeeded with their new passions.
This movie encourages people to take on something new and wait for the results.
Like I said, great conversation-starter, especially for a tenn!
