The sexual innuendos are outrageous. Drug use is ridiculous. Very disappointed it was advertised so heavily on nickelodeon. Totally inappropriate for tweens and younger.

Movie for a quick laugh, but not for younger kids
For a cheesy, quick laugh...this would be a movie to watch. Although my youngest is 12, I would not go any younger than that with this movie. There was alot of language in this movie (the F word was mouthed once, not said aloud), and tons of sexual innuendos. The apeman kept pawing at the girls chest, coffee cups with breasts, and group of girls (from apeman tribe) with long hair barely covering their chest. This movie is totally different than the original so don't expect to watch this movie with that in mind.

Tacky - nothing like the original
Tacky humor that was not funny - Will Ferrell keeps doing the same tacky humor and in the first few movies it might have been somewhat funny - but it is now worn out. Also I watched this tv show as a kid and this movie is completely different - not even the same characters. Holly was the daughter in the tv show - the movie has her as Marshall's love interest.

Misguided and Uncomfortable - Rerate at least 12+ (C-)
Considering the advertising hype for this movie seems to indicate that this is a family film, I was so glad I saw this before my children. Awfully misguided film, and although the humour may be more targeted to young boys of 13 who find jokes about breast fondling / masterbation / vulgar language and drug references 'hilarious', the fact that this is advertised on 'younger' Kids channels in the UK is a disgrace. It made the whole experience quite uncomfortable. I would personally rate this film 12+ such is the general content. Really not that funny. Will Ferrel what ARE you doing...? Bring back Ron Burgundy!

This movie was terrible for children under 13 years of age. Advertising movies like this on Nickelodeon makes me sick. My 7 and 9 year old were dying to see it, and sadly, we did.

If you liked Talladega Nights you might like this one- they're about on par. I don't see any point. Done right slapstick and silliness can be great humor. This brand is tiresome; it doesn't take talent to be crude, tacky & generally derogatory. I would hesitate to take anyone under 16 and anyone over won't find anything worthwhile unless raunchy mindless drivel is your cup of tea.

Not appropriate for 13 year olds, and bad to boot!
I found it extremely offensive. I brought my daughter and 3 of her friends, and was angry during the movie, and apologetic to their parents afterward! Words like b*tch, a**, d*ck and p*ssy (sometimes used "straight", and sometimes as a double-entendre) were not what I considered appropriate. Also, the female character was dressed in a provocative manner for no theatrical reason, and was grouped for humor, and the subject of crude humor on a number of occasions. There were visual sexual jokes as well, and while much of this went over the kids' heads, I was very surprised that, ratings-wise, this was considered acceptable for 13 year olds. Lastly, this was just a terrible movie -- bad dialog, jokes, plot, acting, etc.

I took my 11 & 12 year olds to see the movie and was extremely disappointed at how vulgar the movie was. The sexual innuendos were just not necessary and the characters were just rude.

I want to comment on the previews. At Star Trek, the preview included some inappropriate language/references for younger children. At UP, the preview had been dubbed over to remove those references. Marketers were clearly hoping to trick parents into thinking this movie is OK for younger children.

We left before it ended. I was wishing I had checked this website before we went to see it, but your review doesn't do it justice. Lots of vulgar language? It was ALL vulgar. I was really looking foreward to watching this movie (although Will Farrell isn't my cup of tea) but I left the theater wondering how they got by with a PG rating. Even my children were embarrassed. The whole movie is one profane word or act after another. I can't believe it was marketed to children with the F word and G D, and the CONSTANT sexual actions. It promotes homosexuality, interspecies sex, self gratification, drug use, and on and on. This was the worst movie I think I've ever seen in my 40 years. My kids are 15, 13 and 11 and it was inappropriate for all of them. I would say it was inappropriate for anyone under 18.

This is not for the kids!! If I could give it a half a star I would have. It is awful to start with but many of the scenes had me uncomfortable. There was talk about two male characters french kissing on a dare. The furry creature is constantly grabbing the female characters breast, ok maybe once, but they seem to think this was funny for it to happen over and over. They use bad language like p***y, and others, at the end it shows a group of scantily clad women showing a little too much bottom and breast. Please do not take your children to this movie. I was somewhat offended by the constant degrading of women, i.e: breast constantly grabbed, talk hinting about women getting wet", showing a bit much bottom and breast at the end. Although not full out revealing, more showing than they should have for how this movie was promoted. Shame on them..They made every child out there think this was a great kids movie!! Really sad!!

After reading the commonsense.org review I took my 12 year old to this movie and couldn't believe how many offensive moments you guys left out of the review! For example, once the guys get high on narcotic cactus juice they wake up in a 69 position lingered on by the camera long enough for everyone to get the joke ten times over...and still no one's laughing. The gross out humor you mention is delivered sledgehammer style so that even my twelve year old boy hated it. Truly tedious. I love Will Farrell, but this movie was definately marketed to kids and is NOT a kids movie. Other items you do not stress enough in the review is the unending foul language, sexual references and topless girls in the ending.

I misguidedly took my 7yr.-old son to this.... I like to think I'm media-savvy, and consciencious; but guess I was just lazy when it came to this decision. [Note: it's rated PG here in Canada!] There was definitely kid-focussed marketing, and he fell for it. I just like to go to movies where both the little guy and grown-ups are entertained.... Crude movie with no value; inappropriate for anyone under 17 & too boring/stupid/crude for anyone older.
This is NOT the children's Land of the Lost you might think it would be, based on the old kids' tv program. It has corny potty-humor, many crude sexual references, repeated groping of the female lead's breasts and disrespectful sexual comments (male lead suggests that the woman will "get wet" at one point), 3 main characters go on some sort of drug trip with several homosexual references that occur during that "trip". It has a very thin plot and no redeeming value at all. I was mortified that I took my 8 year old son and am glad a friend told me about this website for future reference BEFORE we go to a movie!

I was extremely disappointed in the language used in the movie. It is very inappropriate and should not have been acceptable for a PG-13 rated movie. The language was much more adult than I cared for. Certain words that were used are NOT suitable for children! At least not for children with manners. The trailer gave no clue at all that there was going to be such inappropriate language in the movie. I'm just sorry I didn't do the research ahead of time. I was uncomfortable and embarrassed throughout most of the movie.

Dumb and cruder
While some of the computer-generated imaging is slick, the whole show is remarkably dumb and only occasionally funny -- maybe five laughs total. So, with no persuasive content, they go for bad language, repeatedly grabbing a woman's breast, and anything else inappropriate that they can think of. Har, har, har.....not.

Young teens and tweens won't get this movie.
Irresponsible and stupid. Why do they target young teenagers with these kinds of movies and then tell them getting stoned is funny and harmless? Will Ferrell was hilarious in Elf and because of that we check out other things he's made. Bottom line though the guy is clueless about what is decent and appropriate. He loves to stand around in his underwear and be ridiculous. The problem is it's just not that funny. He needs to look back at Elf and figure out what he is good at. He can play charming innocent characters really well. He should refrain from crossing the line into idiotic amorality. This movie could have been so much funnier, like Ringo Starr's "Caveman" movie. That was hilarious. Instead we've got people being clueless one minute then serious the next. Their characters persona is all over the place. The funniest bit is after the credits. The should have introduced Chaka's clan a lot earlier and done more with that. It's a complete mess.

The Will Ferrell franchise pumped another movie out where Will Ferrell's character is just a mix of Anchorman's Ron Burgandy and Talladaga Nights' Ricky Bobby. It's a couple of cheap laughs, but not a whole lot of creativity. There's a scene where a child asks "if you shoot a ton of weed into the sun, will everyone get high" and the guys all have an acid like trip and end up screwing things up while in the Land of the Lost

Two parts made me highly uncomfortable to be watching while sitting next to my 13 year old daughter: 1. a scene where Will Ferrell announces that he is going to masturbate, and then proceeds to put his hand down his pants. 2. A scene where an ice cream truck comes through the vortex and the guy in the van is surrounded by ravenous dinosaurs and attacked and eaten--really it's about the same kind of scene you got in "Jurassic Park" where it was played for scares instead of laughs. For me this scene was so close to the original, supposedly scary movie, that it's hard to imagine this time it's supposed to be funny. There were times I laughed, sure. But most of the film bored or annoyed me. The pacing and the tone were off. I don't mind gross-out humor--Team America felt brilliant to me--but something was off about almost every scene of Land of the Lost.

Sort of Boring. Lost My Interest During the Film.
It's a man's comedy. It's not very funny, just sexual humor and jokes that don't really make sense. Language and sex, violence, consumerism, bad role models, mixed messages, and drug and alcohol use and we could be seeing this film again. It isn't good.

A Refreshing Comedy Movie That Is Perfect For Teens
I'm not a HUGE fan of Will Ferrell, and I wasn't expecting anything fantastic, but I was pleasantly surprised by the whole package. It has pretty much the same plot ELEMENTS of most comedy movies (guy, guy gets girl, guy loses girl, guy does something to win back girl, happily ever after), but the plotLINE of "Land of the Lost" is very refreshing. The movie didn't really have any content that pushes the definition of "PG-13." There is some language, but that's probably the biggest concern parents would have about this movie. It has in-your-face gross-out humor, and more subtle humor. The story is predictable, but as I said, it is refreshing. All in all, I think that this movie has a little something for everyone.
