I realy loved this movie. I think it is perfect for kids ages 10 and up. ( but not for little ones!)and I also like it because it's sci-fi.It's also fun to imagin having a talkig doll rabbit like mimzy that only you can underestand what it's saying. In the movie when noah an emma's parents were talking to the boy's teacher for some help, noah came out and said that something was wrong with emma. at that time i saw emma in the air holding mimzy and slowly landing on her bed!!! can you imagin how fun it will be if that realy happen to you? anyway the movie had kind of funny parts.:D :D
Not for kids who are sensitive and are scared of aliens
Ok so my fam rented this movie with series of unfortunate events and I loved it! But we also got this. After we watched it i was sitting on my mom crying! I had like about maybe a half in hour of sleep. So you get it then about maybe a week after i saw it.
I watched this with a 6,8 and 11 year old. What makes it scary is how believable the story/special effects are, as well as the emotional attachments to the toys from the future. One isn't quite sure whether these toys, which are magical and endearing, aren't really evil- especially as the kids are "controlled" by them and keep their parents in the dark. My kids (all 3) were afraid the children would be abducted and that the world of the future would kill them. There is one very very scary depiction of an alien which my 8 year old woke up terrified with. We did all love the story, and how we were truly transported from the everyday of school/ today's technology to the potential of future technology- and the lesson about the importance of keeping humanity alive.
The one pathetic product placement was Intel, I must say!
I did not like this film. My 9 year old and 6 old watched it with my husband and I which helped to debunk the weird New Agey issues with the teacher and his fiancee as well as the strange beginning and end of the film. There are lots of holes in the plot which are never resolved such as what happened really in the future, what happens to Mimsy, what did the tear have to do with anything and I could go on. Not well acted or executed as a film. Disappointing.
The stars of the movie were a 10-year old boy and a younger sister with a beloved stuffed rabbit. I watched the moive seated between my 10-year old son and his younger sister, who was holding a stuffed rabbit.. Perfect for us! Both kids and I loved it.
The mix of fantasy and reality was just right . Both my boy, who loves Eragon and fantasy, just starting sci-fi, and my younger daughter, more the Beethoveen or Winn-Dixie type, were captivated throughout. We laughed a lot, and were just a tad worried at times.
Pretty confusing, but good. It wasn't too bad except for the sexual content, Niomi and Larry make out (close up) and when he got out of bed his butt was bare (but blocked out) And in the deleted scenes (which is included with DVD) Include the parents doing something dimly lit in bed (something I feel unconfortible saying) and the couple make out even more adultish and longer in there, and he says something about having to share a bed with some chinies men or something, and she says "Ooh kinky" Anyways it was also pretty creepy, the rabbit bunny doll thing makes weird buzzing sounds, but otherewise its kind of interesting. Sorta.
Took kids (5 & 9) to see this...wasn't what I thought it'd be. Was anticipating ET/Close Encounter-ish. After 45 minutes I was bored; couple of times kids were scared. Little girl in movie levitated, used telekenesis (sp?) and had what appeared to be a seizure after sticking her face into the "orb". I can deal with magic per se, but this crossed the line to witch craft for me. I'd say each parent should view PRIOR to allowing children to see it.
I brought my 12 yr-old and her friends to watch the movie and 3 wanted to leave midway. When sci-fi meets Tibetian beliefs, the result was a little too creepy for the younger audience. As the two young characters defy their parents and played obsessively with the strange toys, I almost wished they would all leave with the toys to the future.
