Did anybody not remeber when Cheddar, or Chowder or whatever says "vulva?" That deserves a PG-13 rating right there. Good entertainment witha valuable lesson, though
I wouldn't want my son to see this if her were under 10. Luckily, he didn't ask questions about references to puberty and drinking and he didn't get the "get off" comment about the babysitter's boyfriend being "on top of her". Movie would have been just as good without these parts. I'll never understand why movie makers feel the need to include this stuff in kid's movies.
This movie was pretty scary for some kids. A good thing in the movie was that it showed people working together and that boys and girls can be friends. I thought it was a scary movie.
this movie is great. My 5 year old cousin watched this movie and was only SLIGHTLY scared by it but hey he wasnt so scared that he cried or had nightmares or nothing
You should think twice before taking your child under 10
I think that the previews were very deceiving to consumers. I would not have ever guessed that it would be so scary for my children. I talked to them a bit about it not being real and that it might be a little jumpy, but it was ridiculous, we walked out.
I don't like this movie cuz I just think the plot is kinda stupid. I mean, a house that's alive and eats things? That's kinda the same as saying my computer is gonna get up and start tap dancing. Other people might like it, but I wouldn't watch it with anyone under 10 or anyone scared easily.
Violence: Plenty of scary scenes including the house "eating" people, a skeleton, and a scene where it looked like a man died.
Sex: Boys have a crush on a girl and talk about how great it is to have kissed a girl on the lips. A running joke is that one of kids is going through puberty. A character pretends to make out with a stuffed animal. A guy tries to "have his way" with his girlfriend.
Language: One "crap" and several "oh my god"'s and "screw" in many different slang phrases.
Drugs: A character (unclear if a teenager or young adult) is drinking what appears to be beer. Also a kid about 12 or 13 asks if there is any beer in the house.
This movie caught us by surprise as we were expecting a funny, scary movie suitable for kids. The movie is mostly unfunny and very scary in parts. Some of the images are inappropriate for kids. The story line is inconsistent at times and, if there is a moral to the story, it is pretty muddled. The 9 year old we were with found it quite scary. The older kids (11 and 12) said they found it entertaining but were disappointed there were not more funny parts. As an adult, I found it boring and not a film I enjoyed seeing.
My 7 year old son and I saw at least two previews for Monster House in the theater and tons on Nickelodeon prior to seeing the movie. None of them gave any hint as to how scary the movie really is. I was surprised and disappointed that we weren't better prepared for the violence at the end and I was concerned about his reaction. Today I asked him if it was scary but he liked it or if it was just scary and he said it was just scary and that we should have gone to see "Ant Bully" instead. I thought it was an okay movie but there wasn't anything really redeeming to make up for the violence. Definitely for older kids.
We went as a family with a 10 year old, and both the child and I found this movie to be very scary. It does resolve okay in the end. I also found some scenes where a boyfriend was coming onto the babysitter to be a little too much for me. You just heard the voices from the other room, but there was no doubt what he was trying to get her to do. It went over the kids heads, but I didn't like it in mine. There is also some humor reguarding urine in a soda bottle which we found to be totally revolting and in poor taste.
I was not comfortable with God's name taken in vain and thought it was unnecessary. I was not thrilled when the babysitter blackmailed the child into doing what she wanted. Having a "boy" in the house late at night "wrestling" on the couch and floor I found unacceptable. In addition, it was obvious to me that what was in his bottle was beer. He seemed drunk as he left the house. Issues that can be explained but I would limit to children above 7.
