I started watching the movie and really liked it however they use God's name in vain which is worse than cussing. B/c of that I cannot recommend the movie.
I wouldn't call this sequel as family-friendly as the first National Treasure. There was no bad language, I have to give it points for that, but it didn't do as well in the other categories. In the first movie two of the main characters bought a house together. It's assumed they were married by this point, but in the sequel you find out that they weren't. And unlike the first National Treasure movie where all the bad guys get caught by the police, the bad guy in the sequel dies. That part could be disturbing to kids.
As a parent in his early 30s of children who are ages 8 & 10, this movie reminds me much of The Goonies...without all of the bad language. While the movie is fiction, there are historical elements to the movie that are neat to hear about and can be used as educational tools for your children. For example, the opening scene is a dramatic re-enactment of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Relax...there's no blood or gore associated with it. Most kids will be familiar with the story, but few will know many details about it. On a social level, the movie deals with stuff that some kids will be able to relate to and others won't. For example, Ben Gates' parents are divorced and not necessarily fond of each other but somehow grow closer once again throughout the adventure in the movie. Ben and his girlfriend have lived together and are now broken up. There is a scene in which they're discussing who will take possession of some mutual property. Nothing is detailed throughout it, but your kids may pick up on it. The rest of the movie is action-packed without showing gore or much violence (especially by comparison to the first movie). Ed Harris is a great bad guy as always, who shows a good side in the end. As usual, Disney did a superb job with the HD rendering and the surround sound is great as well.
I was happy to see the sequel followed just about the same path as the first, which made it really good! It was a little more violent than the first one with the guy getting shot in the first scenes of the movie, but overall, it was clean like the first. Refreshing having movies like National Treasure and this sequel to see with the whole family that is actually clean!
The movie was quite intense in parts--like the Indiana Jones or Star Wars movies--so consider your pre-teens' tolerance for such intensity before letting them see it. Overall, the story was far-fetched, the relationships were skeletal, the dialogue was unrealistic, and the plot was sometimes inconsistent and difficult to follow--but plenty of historical theories, locations, and action kept it entertaining. I found the beginning--which took place in the Civil War era--the most interesting part of the film.
It was very similar to the first NT, however this time the historical theory behind the treasure was correct unlike the first. Great movie for anyone to see especially fans of Indiana Jones or the Mummy trilogies.
Many similarities to NT part one but all in all an enjoyable adventure flick--anyone can watch this movie...humor that makes you smile and a storyline you don't have to worry about allowing your kids to see.
Entertaining sequel to the original but plot very similar. My kids were entertained and enjoyed it. I thought it was fine but too similar to the original to really recommend to other adults. Not a bad choice for a family outing.
OK. So this is basically the same movie. But, we had a fun afternoon at the theater and I think this one was a little better. It was fun to spend some time with these folks again. I will admit I never quite figured out the Ed Harris character. Was he a bad guy or just in need of friends?
Super for Nicholas Cage fans & History or numbers buffs!
Though not quite as thrilling as the first, this movie is very detailed, and although may embellish history here and there, is also very informative. My children (10 & 12) Loved it & were glued to their seats. There are a few slower parts for children where adults would "get it" and appreciate the humour of it, but when the action comes, it is exciting. Language was a non-issue for a change, and commercialism, though definitely there, adds to some scenes, but didn't make us go out shopping for the products (as do cereal/toy commercials during cartoons!). If there is a "Nat'l Treasures 3," I hope it follows more of the original, but Book of Treasures caused us to get out the encyclopaedias for more info.
This was totally one of the stupidest movies I've ever seen! Honestly, kidnapping the President of the United States? What's he going to do in the third movie, murder someone?!
My 10 year old daughter, my husband, and I saw this movie. We had seen the first one, and this was just as good. It was "clean" and exciting, sort of like Indiana Jones. It also included history and showed historical places. It was funny, too. We didn't want it to end! I appreciate Disney making movies that we can take our children to without worrying. I'm looking forward to a possible National Treasure 3. They allude to that at the end, and kind of leave us in suspense.
