I never enjoyed this movie as much as I did when watching it alongside my 4-yr old twins.
I was iffy on what they'd think about it. I knew there was some questionable subject matter within, the kids were pretty mean, Jack had a few situations where he got pretty nasty towards others and the obvious of Jack getting shot out of the sky and Oogie Boogie shooting at Jack with his contraptions.
However, I was willing to risk it, sit with my girls and explain the situation. In the end, it was worth it. I think they appreciated that the kids there were being nasty. That Oogie Boogie was bad, and that Jack was just confused about what he really wanted.
I know there are some things they don't FULLY get, but as long as you're willing to sit, explain and stress that there are things inappropriate about the BAD things, there are SO many good things about the movie.
The music, the end morals of wanting to be different, better and of course, the love story.
Give it a try by yourself. You know your kids the best, and will know if this is right for them. But heck, if you haven't seen it... DO. It's great for adults, too!
This is one of my favorite movies. I don't love everything Tim Burton produces, but this one is charming and the music is great. In particular, I love that failure isn't the end of Jack. There is so much pressure to succeed, and so little about how to pick yourself up and find life after a setback. The religion and holiday topic was not an issue for me, but people who don't celebrate Christmas or who emphasize the religious nature of it might want to view it before sharing it with their kids. Also, it can be a little scary, so if your child frightens easily, wait another year or two.
This movie teaches kids how to be themsevles as Jack Skellington learns. It also REALLY stimulates your imagination and creativity which is always a plus. This is MY personal favorite movie with a ton of awesome visuals and catchy music for the kiddos.
This came out when I was young and was an instant favorite, I am excited to share it with my daughter (4) who loves Jack and Sally and asks for them by name. It can be scary for some children but my daughter loves Halloween and monsters/spooky things so this movie doesn't phase her at all.
I love this move and it's a favorite around our house! It shows the importance of being happy with the talents you were born with. Although a little scary, nothing frightening that your kids won't find cool or cute. This move has been a favorite of mine and will be a favorite in our house for generations to come.
This is a great film! A lot of scenes take place in a Halloween world, so there our plenty of creepy, but creative characters running around. Some of the visuals can be rather frightening, such as the murderous yet slightly comically Oggie Boogie. This movie has fun songs, amazing animation and a captivating storyline that makes it a Christmas (or Halloween) classic!
This is a fave in my house. my youngest son who is 3 almost 4 loves this movie. Its dark but if you let your kids watch it, it actually helps them see that scary cartoons are just that cartoons.. Its not cartoons we should worry about making them scared of its the REAL monsters in the world. I am talking about sick people.. Sometimes we focus on the wrong things. Anyways we love it!!! I love all Tim Burton films.
For starters - loved the movie. It is a work of art. However, it does have some scary elements and some inappropriate behavior (kidnapping Santa). My 5 year old saw the charaters and wanted to see it, so we sat down and talked about the scary parts and the bad behavior. But when it came time to watch it he did not even make it through the credits before he got scared.
Great movie, magical from start to finish. Share this masterpiece with your youngsters 6+!
I must let out a laugh at the who think this movie is too violent. This movie has no blood, drinking, sex, etc. It is a turly magical movie, and me, almost 17, I get a total kick of it -still-. The only thing scary about this movie is the costumes, but nothing worse than you'd see taking your youngster out trick or treating on Halloween. I've known every word of every song since I was 8 years old. Danny Elfman and Tim Burton makes a wonderful team, great music, animation, and it just never gets old. Jack and Sally are a lovely couple together, their love just make you "aww." Don't hesitate to show it to your kids!
My kids and I watched this for saturday night movie night and we loved it. Coraline was way stupider and darker. My kids and I hated Coraline but we all loved this movie. I cannot believe some people hate this. It had good messages about what can happen if you ruin christmas. Yeah Christmas is my favorite holiday too, (Talking to the biggest christmas fans too) Even though I don't want to hurt the halloween spirit, Cause Halloween is awesome too. Christmas is a nightmare to cookies totally cause santa eats cookies. This movie is the opposite of Christmas. Hallotmas is how I mixed Halloween and Christmas together to spell it funny. Some toys the kids got was more of a funny scene than a scary scene. The monsters just don't understand how important christmas is. If they were humans they'd be wanted cause they don't know how special christ and santa are. Kids will love this movie.
Fantastic, Fun, Frightening Fable is Not For Under 10.
This is a fine achievement in film making. It is fun, witty, and has a great soundtrack. But, PARENTS: this is a frightening film; there are many scary images of demons and gouls, and one especially scary and gross called the Boogeyman (he's made of bugs). But, other than the creepy tone and some scary images, this should be a fun treat for you and your family (over 10). Thanks for reading - Movie Man
