Suitable For Experienced Teenagers, Not For Young Children
I found "The Other Guys" to be somewhat humorous. It is most definitely your average new film with quite a bit of cursing and quite a few sexual innuendos. Both Will Ferrel and Mark Wahlberg did decent jobs acting, however I did find Will Ferrel to be lacking in good humor. Wahlberg just lacked in character, period. If you are the kind of person who likes semi-humorous films that you don't have to be locked on the screen to understand, this would probably be the movie for you. It is all together quite simple to follow; it just lacked in gut-busting humor. All together, the movie was not horrible, but I probably wouldn't recommend it to any comedy buff who is looking for a good laugh or two.
Buried underneath the car crashes and amazingly vulgar language is a clever mystery and a good story about two ordinary cops who do non-glamorous jobs in an effort to protect the people. But what my son took away from the film was the fact that it was loaded with some very salty language and lots of embarrassingly graphic sex jokes. Does PG-13 mean ANYTHING anymore? Or is it just a way to get more bodies into seats at what should be an R-rated film?!
lots of profanity like s**t its hard to notice but one f*ck is heard over a gun fire and an extreme crude scene is when the wife says shes pregnent and ferrel asks who she had sex with
I don't think either my 13 or 16 year old sons were harmed by this movie
I just watched this with my sons 13 & 16.I personally had wanted to see it, and saw the rating of PG 13 so i rented it. It was a pretty funny movie if you like overly goofy and really off the wall comedy. Was great to see my sons laughter, But we all agreed there were some really detailed sexual references, and laughed our way through, I did however mute it at one point, my 13 year old laughed, and my 16 year old said I should have just covered the 13 year olds ears. I replied "Some things are better left to the imagination :) "All in all I had some good laughs with my sons, and I don't think either was harmed by this movie.
I usaully agree with the reviews on this site, but had to join just to review this movie. I absolutely agree with the previous parents comments. This is an R-rated movie from beginning to end. Between the extremely bad language throughout, raunchy sex jokes, I couldn't see much that was anywhere near PG-13. I would only recommend this for 16 and older. Don't waste your money...wait until it comes out on cable and don't invite your kids.
The Other Guys is a poor comedy movie about bad behavior and characters acting silly and parents you need to know that The Other Guys has some mild violence some sexual content some strong language used and a little bit of drinking and drugs shown overall the movie is very silly but there's only one good message in this movie it's about teamwork.
The Other Guys is one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. My family (two adults and two older teenagers) absolutely loved it. The story of the two bumbling desk cops who set out to unmask a corrupt banking situation is full of laughs and sweet messages about friendship and character. That being said, there is a LOT of raunchy humor, including a graphic discussion of sexual fantasies, plenty of discussion of a character's ability to catch the attention of lots of extremely attractive women, discussion of a homosexual orgy, discussion of a man's past as a pimp, lots of cleavage, and sexy double entendres and one-liners. Ferrell's character has some pretty effeminate traits and is poked fun at almost incessantly for a good part of the movie. There are fistfights, explosions, car chases, and lots and lots of shooting. The violence is mostly comic, and not extreme. The sexual content of the movie makes it better for older teens and adults. Just not appropriate for tweens and teens.
considering i am actually not a fan of most Will Ferrell movies, i found this to be pretty good. This is probably due to the impressive ensemble comedy cast. Samuel L. Jackson, Dwayne Johnson, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes, Steve Coogan, Michael Keaton, and, surpirsingly, Ray Stevenson. The comedy isn't always there, but when it is, it's really quite funny. There are some awesome sight gags and one-liners. Some pieces of dialogue are funny. Parents: Much of the dialogue, funny or not, is very raunchy, with explicit sexual references. The action isn't too bloody, but it can be intense, including explosions and accidental and purposeful deaths. There is also some foul language. Bottom Line: This probably won't be your new favorite comedy, but it does have it's moments of hilarity. I'd recomend it on DVD, not in theaters, so you save money that just isn't worth this movie. In my opinion, this movie was not funny and very boring in some parts. I went with my 11 year old son and neither one of us laughed in the movie. We giggled a few times, but really we wish that we saved our money and waited for the DVD release. A few references to boobs and sexual acts.
More sexual innuendo than a PG 13 movie should be allowed.
We walked out half way through it. It was VERY crass. The sexual innuendo was too much for our family. The language was also excessive for the PG13 rating. I guess you have to show nudity to get an R rating, but this was R enough for my family. The violence was very cartoonish and didn't bother me. When one partner was ogling the other's wife and she was talking about her chest a lot, it was too much. I can't recommend this movie.
I thought the movie was OK for an adult that doesn't mind very sexual humor. I took my thirteen year old son and regretted it. I think the very clear crude and aggressive sexual messages should make it more of an 16+ or even R rating. The folks that rate these movies either don't have kids or shouldn't have kids.
It shouldn't be OK to rate this PG 13 and not be rebuked for it.
We must've misread your review somehow. This movie wound up being completely and unbelievably inappropriate for our kids!! Bad language never seems to stop; sexual references are heavy; violence is pretty strong though all done with humor. ? For adults, it was a great movie. Great acting; tons of great humor.
Very funny, but shouldn't have taken the tweens....
The boys LOVED IT, as did their dad, but it really wasn't appropriate for ages 10 & 12. It had plenty of rude crude language and sexual dialog. The themes, which included a satiric view of popular culture and the financial crisis would be better for 15+. The acting was good.
