I absolutely love this movie! Its so amazing! I saw this in 7th grade and all my friends absolutely obssesed over it. Yes, there is some violence and cursing, but otherwise, this is a very good story which my friends and I can just quote over and over again.
This is the move I regard as my favourite, its so emotional and amazing =] I love it so much. I think the things about it is that it really makes you connect with the characters, and imagine you are there, standing next to them. The tension is a lot, and its quite hard-hitting, but its almost like a biopic. Its got some action, some comedy, a handful of drama and a topping of realism.
Its a truly amazing film, so give it a chance and go see it.
You won't regret it.
This is a great movie, I first watched and read it when I was in 7th grade, 12 yrs old...We watched/read in class. This movie has mild violence in it, including a teen killing another, but you never see this happen. The teens also smoke, and maybe drink...There is barely any bad language. This movie is for mature 11+. But for 12+ generally. :D Hope this helps!!
There was a rumble between the Socs, and the Greasers which was a really violent fight. Also, Dally robbed a convenience store and the cops were after him so he got killed. I watched this movie in English class when I was in 8th grade and that movie felt fine for 8th graders.
This movie is great! It teaches that nothing lasts forever, but that may be a little too sad for kids. The smoking and such wasn't necessary, but I still think this is a great movie!
Definately no one under 9, iffy for age 10, 11 and up perfectly fine. READ THE BOOK FIRST!
I'm starting to think Common Sense thinks all kids are extremely sheltered. A 5 out of 5 for violence? Please. The violence barely makes a 1 for me. They can't take some fist fight violence or some gun violence? The most violent part is probably the stabbing. The fire part may be a little frightening to anyone under 9.
This movie, just like the book, has an amazing message, but you'll understand the movie better if you read the book first.
This is probably on of the best movies i've ever seen. And people keep saying to watch it when you 13. Well, in case you havn't noticed, i'm 12 and in 7th grade and we warched this in my 6th grade english class! So don't even start with me when it comes to 'you're to young.'!
Suggested MPAA Rating:
PG-13 for some violence, thematic elements, brief sensuality, language, and smoking throughout. (All involving teens)
Very noticeable product placement for those who care. seriously? who cares if they mention Coca Cola a few times? Whoopdi doo!
Violence includes an Offscreen stabbing, resulting in death. Aftermath is shown. Some graphic scenes of a boy that was burned severely. A very intense gang fight, blood and bruises.
Sensuality includes a boy trying to take advantage of a girl.
Language includes sh**, d**n, hell, b*st*rd, etc.. nothing explicit.
Drinking/drugs/smoking includes teen boys drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes throughout. I mean, every seen involves them smoking or gambling with cigarettes.
I agree with Lilium Natalia, commonsensemedia is overboard with their ratings, like my little brother watched scream and didnt flinch, way to overboard
Perfect for teens/read the book/watched the film/and bought the 2 disc special edition
I love it and the movie stayed really closde to the book something that you don't see everyday,I also loved the actors performances and they did a great job especially Matt Dillon and he was so gorgeous and still is of course and this movie is good for teens cause it's problems that teenagers have and it actually has good messages so read the book and watch the film cuase it's perfect and the actor's performance is as well perfect and it's just a classic.
i think this movie is really good. and i think it's to prove to people that this is what really happen's when kids teenagers, and adults that are in gangs but their is a bright side wen the boys were living at the church and it caught on fire and kids were in their and the boys helped them out and johnny got burnt but it was for a good cause.
good message but very mature. parental guidence is advised.
when i read this book in english i fell in love with it. although there is language most dont appreciate, the message is good. it tells people theres always good left in the world. at one point a boy messes around with a girl teasing her and making her uncomfortable, but only verbally. there isnt even any kissing but a lot of the characters smoke often. two boys are great models by saving children from a fire and not even knowing them. one of them even dies and said it was worth it for the kids. overall a great movie but parental guidance is seriously advised.
This is one of my favorite movies. It is actually very depressing because of main character deaths, but it's a truthful movie that shows how things really are, not sugar-coated. Violence isn't the worst ever, but I still cringed a bit at the rumble. (the shooting scene is very distant and hard to see, you don't see the boy get burned but you see his burns, and the rumble is a bunch bunch of punching, kicking, jumping, attacking, but no weapons) Its a fabulous teen movie, very emotional and touching. I actually found myself crying! <3 Love Johnny Cade!
This movie was tom cruise's premier movie. It was a very good movie overall, but it has a lot of gang fighting and death of main characters! Read the book first, though!
