people who wanna watch this movie need to understand why it was filmed. it wasnt filmed for cool graphics or to show horrifying gruesome violence like in your average horror film. This movie was designed to show people just how much Jesus loves us--He would die a horrible death of pain and torture. But the violence in this movie is extreme. He did this so we wouldnt have to. So obviously this movie is for the mature teen that understands what its all about. And the violence really should bother people to think that this did really happen to Jesus just so that we could go to Heaven due to the perfect sacrifice provided to us thru Jesus.
As someone who's not Christian, I went to see this with my Christian grandmother and my non-Christian husband -- my gramma was very moved and cried, and my husband almost fell asleep. The flogging scenes were very difficult for my gramma to watch (she said she didn't know Jesus went through all that). I was very touched by Mary's love for her son (I cried when she was remembering him as a child). As for the anti-Semetic comments, I don't feel that Mel Gibson took any liberties with that -- I believe that's really how the people would have acted then (and even now) if someone claimed to be the Messiah. I was disappointed with the ending, but overall it's a fantastic film that should be seen by all adults -- Christians will probably appriciate their Christ more, and non-Christians can perhaps see what all of the hype about Jesus is about. Children should definitely NOT see this -- it's more graphic than most horror films.
This is a wonderful film that every Christian needs to see but it's not for little kids. It is very violent but it's a movie about the death of Jesus, do you really expect it to be nonviolent? I think parents need to diside whether their kids can handle it. It's a very real and personal depication of the Easter story. They did leave out a few small things like showing the temple curtain rip and the centurian saying "surely, He was the Son of God". This story follows the Catholic Bible and tradition very close, I'm a Lutheran so there are a few parts that I had never heard of. I watched this on Good Friday with my 14 year old daughter, she could and did handle it. I don't understand why people are making a big deal of the violence, this actually happened and there is a reason it's rated R. The actor that plays Jesus is hurt during the movie-he is actually whipped a few times, he gets his shoulder dislocated during the cross scene (you can here it pop when they're nailing his hands into the cross) and he was struck by lighting but not seriously hurt. It's a good movie and it's snaps you into reality of what really happened.
Well staged but harsh depiction of the death of Jesus
A visually impressive and emotionally rooted telling of the crucifixtion of Jesus. doesnt really pull any punches the violence is graphic and brutal, but not really extreme or over the top. The torture is harsh yet very realistic and give us some idea into why many people view this incident as a major event. The performances are really good, especially Caviezal as Jesus. Granted I would have liked to have seen more of him interacting with people or due some of the others things Jesus was fameous for, instead of focusing only on his agony, its touching but I wanted to see more of the quiet, small moments. but overall this is a great film but is not really appropriate for people younger than 16
pretty violent movie. Jesus gets uber tortured phsically and mentally. a kid can take it though, its not that bad, just sad that that happened to someone who did nothing wrong at all
This movie was the best film I have seen since Return of the King and was a definite "spiritual awakener" for myself. The film focuses on the last 12 hours of Christ's life and the physical and spiritual sacrifices Christ had to make in order to save us from our sins. This film can be extremely emotional to any believer and moved me to tears at least three times. The violence is extremely realistic and graphic, and yet it needs to be there to impress upon us the enormity of the sacrifice Jesus made. Let it be known that Mel Gibson adds some "spiritual warfare" scenes to the story, which consist of Satan depicted as a very frightening and disturbing female. However, these additions only further the impact of the film and made me very aware of just how real and frightening Satan is. I definitely enjoyed this film, but would like people to keep in mind that it is meant for an older more mature audience.
I have never before witnessed such a moving and emotional movie. My entire life I have been presented a sanitized version of the crucifixion, it is shocking to finally understand the magnitude of Jesus Christ's sacrifice. I saw nothing derogatory or anti-semmetic about the movie. What I did come away with was a strong message to love your neighbor as Jesus loved us. I also was presented a inkling of what the Virgin Mother experienced when she watched her son be tortured. This is not a film for children - heed the ratings. But, I recommend every adult see this movie and live the message it sends. Love your neighbors.
ITS a good movie for anyone who doesnt understand the "church life"
This movie was great and changed my whole perspective on church and GOD and what his son went through for me. It made me feel thankful that someone would actually go through that for people that treat them like they are not important.
well, i AM a christian so i ?ed this movie (i can't say i loved this movie, but it definitely moved me and i will definitely see it again)
i am hoping my sister will watch it soon... it's cool.
hope you don't mind having to read the movie, unless you happen to speak arabic.
Good Role Models: Jesus Christ and Peter are the best role models, as they help each other carry to cross.
Violence: Sheesh . . . The violence was total overkill. Jesus is whipped for nearly 30 minutes with shards of glass, as Jews and Romans spit on him. His wounded body carries the cross across the town, and one of the crucified persons has his eyes gouged out by a crow.
My Thoughts: Since violence is so readily available, I'd place this film for kids >15 (at the least).
wow this movie is awsome its violent, good preformnces, its scary, and it has to do with jessus. there is also a pretty weird ending if your going to watch it dont watch it with religius people they will hate you for life
