I've heard so much about the violence in this movie that I overestimated it a little, but that doesn't mean it's easy to watch. "The Passion" takes its viewers back in time to the final hours of Jesus' life, a story all Christians (and many non-Christians) are familiar with but may never have fully appreciated before because they couldn't imagine the extent of Christ's suffering. (Of course, His suffering was way worse in reality than what could be made into a 2-hour film, but this movie still forces you to reevaluate your faith.) While I would like to say that all Christians should see this movie, it might be too much for younger kids. Aside from Jesus being brutally beaten, mocked, taunted, booed, dragged through the streets and finally crucified, there are some very creepy scenes involving Satan and Barabbas, demonic-looking boys who taunt Judas, a cow's skeleton, Judas hanging from a tree, a crow pecking out a criminal's eyes, women screaming and sobbing, ruthless Roman soldiers, and blood splattered, stained and dripping everywhere. The other issues are all very minor compared to the violence, including a few insults ("shut up", "stupid", "idiot", etc.) and men naked except for loincloths. Also, all the dialogue is in English subtitles. Viewers should be fairly knowledgeable about the subject matter, because as CSM points out, nothing is explained, and there are several flashbacks that may be confusing otherwise.
