This is a great movie that truly showed what it was like in the revolutionary war. But this is a very violent movie. D--n and hell is said a couple of times. There is a scene with a bar full of drunk people but its not bad. This is a great movie for all Americans to see. Now to the violence, this movie is very bloody and gory, when someone is shot, you obviously see where he was, but thats not all of it. In one scene someone gets tomahawked in the head, after he drops, the main character, takes it out of his head and repeatedly jabs it into him until he is COVERED in blood. There are some bayonette stabbings, one suicide, 100s of people are burned alive in a church by the red coats, a man is decapitated in slo-mo, a little boy gets shot in the beginning of the movie, and there is a very brutal stabbing. Again, this is an amazing movie but just watch out for violence. Comparing this movie to saving private ryan, there is way more violence and no where near the amount of cussing.
I normally avoid war films like the plague, but I didn't really have much choice in this matter, as my teacher actually showed it to our class last year in History when we were covering the American Revolution. My entire class loved it, and although it was quite gruesome with some heartbreaking bits (like when Benjamin's son dies) it has an overall happy ending, and some really beautiful parts. This is the only war film I would be willing to watch again.
probably one of the most violent movies ever. people are shot (including a little boy), stabbed by bayonets, or hit by a pickaxe that was thrown at them.
VERY graphic violence, but great movie. Not a kids' movie!
My rating: R for bloody war violence.
Positive Role Models: 4/5 - Mel Gibson plays a war hero who is rather true to his family.
Violence: 5/5 - Extremely bloody: mostly blood spurting as a result of shooting, stabbing, or slicing; one extensive scene features Gibson hacking away at a body with a hatchet; another involves a quick decapitation; another depicts a man committing suicide (shooting himself in the head).
Sex: 1/5 - One or two passing references.
Language: 1/5 - Only goes up to a few uses of "d--n" and "hell".
Consumerism: 0/5 - No problem.
Drinking & Drugs: 2/5 - Not much; a few passing drinks.
Very entertaining but things can get VERY intense! But since the movie is trying to be realistic then it needs to be intense like saving private ryan! By the way- we are learning about the war in school and are going to watch this movie tomorrow!! I think some people will be scarred for life!! Lol
My social studies teacher showed this to my whole team in 5th grade and we were perfectly fine. Don't over react because it shows what the American Revolution was really like and doesn't soften it up and it is a big part of American history.
I'm normally not a big fan of war movies but the only reason I'm not is because they remind me of history class, and that's a really dumb reason not to like them anyway, but this is a great movie. It's proof that you CAN have a clean action film and it be good. In fact, any film that isn't clean is stupid in the first place. Of course, there was one little inappropriate "joke" but besides that, a few kisses, and the D-word occasionally, this is a clean movie. I am most definitely not counting the violence at all whatsoever. This movie deserved to be rated R. Children kill, are killed, and one even says he was proud of himself for killing. You can barely see what's going on through all the blood. I don't mean that literally, you can plainly see a man digging a hatchet into people's backs while other men are getting their legs and heads shot off by cannonballs, but I was surprised I could see that much. It was all so realistic, I often forgot I was watching a movie. This thing is a heart-wrencher too. Kids are crying through the whole film and, boy, do they have reason to. The smallest girl just broke my heart! And what I really like about this film is the message. Too many don't realize that, "A shepherd must tend his flock, and at times fight off the wolves!"
This movie was great! It was about a man that stood up against the british in the revolutionary war. The British killed his children making him fight back. This is a good movie but it was very bloody. This would be good for mature kids or about 13. This movie is great with role models. The whole thing about this movie is standing up for your family and a man that will give it all to keep them safe. Again the positive message in this movie is to be able to defend your family if needed. Although this is a very bloody movie it is also emotional. This movie will make you proud and make you cry various times. This is my favorite movie. I Highly reccomend you see it.
i think it was a good movie, but the movie botherd me so much i cant really like it anymore
violence-there is bloody violence and lots of scenes that could easily scare kids, like a boy getting shot
I usually dont like war movies, historic movies,I mean, but I've loved this one. I hate mel gibson,I watched this movie because of heath ledger, and he was fantastic. Its not so violent as everyone says...
