Worst of the trilogy, but still an excellent movie!

Unlike the first one, the violence is not cartoonish, and this is all around a much more disturbing movie. More sexual inuendos, revealing outfits, some kissing. The kraken is very frightening, and the violence is much more graphic than the first. Men are trapped in cages and birds are eating them alive. In the same scene you also see a bird pluck a man's eye out of his head. Cannibals on an island may be scary for some, and for everyone they will apear rather gross. Like the first and the third, there is alot of drinking. NOONE under the age of 12 should watch this movie, and even if you do choose to allow your 12 year old to watch this, do so with caution.

A Fun Follow-up with Breathtaking Cliff-Hanger but Objectionable Content

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL was a true pirate movie, with all the traditional grit, rum, cheating, rum, treasure, curses, and did I say rum? But though you pretty much knew what to expect, it was still remarkably original. That inventiveness and wit was what drew people to it. And it was that attraction that led the filmmakers to make a sequel: DEAD MAN'S CHEST. The original screenwriters, producer, and director have come up with a fun sequel worthy of the title, unlike most sequels these days. This time around we find Capn. Jack owing a debt to Davy Jones, the devil of the sea and collector of souls. Will and Elizabeth follow along in Jack's mis-adventures as he tries to weasle out of paying and tries to find an elusive treasure that controls Jones himself and lies in the fabled Dead Man's Chest. This movie is dirtier than the first. Barnacle-covered sailors and gritty sea monsters probably won't cause nightmares for older kids but will make you cringe. Violence is also heavier, with slit throats, guns, and one particularly nasty yet brief shot of a man with no face (Ugh!). There is little language, just one "d**n you!". There is also some sexual innuendo that is frequent yet no worse than the first. All in all, this is a really fun movie and is just as good as the first. The opening is gruesome, but when you see Johnny Depp in his pirate garb, you know that fun's coming up. The cliff-hanger leaves you grasping for more. Pretty objectionable and darker than the first, but highly recommended.

    O.K

I didn't like this movie as much as the first one. Everything went wrong in it. And there seemed to be too much animation. Too many fake creatures. It really left you in a bad mood when done watching it.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Sexual Content (Not an Issue): Some flirting, kissing, and innuendo. Violence (Pause): Lots of scary action violence. Language (Not an Issue): Some pirate talk. Social Behavior (Pause): Will is noble and heroic, but Jack clearly lacks ethics. He lies, womanizes, and is willing to sacrifice his allies so he can go free. Strong female character. Commercialism (Not an Issue): Part of a huge marketing empire for Disney. Drug/Alcohol/Tobacco (Pause): Pirates drink rum.

    intense, but not graphical.

A lot of sword fighting and some characters are killed, but nothing is shown directly. I think that this movie is okay for 10/11+ There are some gross-looking characters that may be a bit tooo scary.

    Good movie...

First of all, I'd just like to say that the first Pirates movie was a lot better than this one, but it's still worth seeing. There's more violence than in the first one, including two attacks by a giant monster squid called the Kraken, some blood (not an issue if you're kids aren't squimish), and of course, lots of sword fighting and guns that are never shot, merely pointed threateningly at other people. But what do you expect? This is a movie about pirates. All in all, it's a good movie with lots of great special effects, good acting, and an entertaining yet somewhat puzzling plot. There's also a cliffhanger at the end that will leave you wanting to see Pirates 3 as soon as it hits theaters!

    Once again Parents are idiots.

Ive read a lot of the negative reviews. FIRST of all...its PG 13...meaning no children under 13. If you take your child and he is under 13 and he is afraif, it is your own fault for being an idiot. Second, its a movie abour PIRATES. If you knew ANYTHING about the history of pirates you would know its not all cake and icecream. Pay attention to the ratings next time. The problem with this country is all the parents who feel they need to control everyone elses kids, yet let their own run wild. Protect YOUR OWN children, and may more attention to THEM rather than everyone elses children. You will get further in life. The movie, was fantastic just like the first and third. Great graphics great story!

Theatre Filled with Screaming Crying Children

This movie was incredibly violent and had terrifying monsters. There must have been AT LEAST 200 drownings, not to mention the other more central violent deaths. There were many children in the theatre CRYING in fear. There is NO way this movie should be touted as safe entertainment for kids.

    The first one was better.

Parts of this movie were disgusting, even for myself, with a tough stomach. First of all, Davy Jones and his crew are all disfigured, grotesque men turned sea creatures. Def. not for kids under 13, in my opinion. Second, there seemed to be a lot more "voodoo" influence on the native islanders. More superstition... trying to make it interesting, but giving the movie an eerie effect. Personally, I don't like movies that incorporate witchcraft in them, but some parents might be more complacent about this issue. Third, Elizabeth and Jack Sparrow's make out scene wasn't necessary. It had nothing to do with the general plot. As in the above issue, some parents may be okay with letting their kids watch that. Overall, this movie was confusing and worse than the first. It had a weird plot outline and I think lots of kids (especially girls) who are "up-to-date" with pop culture are just going to watch it for the actors/actresses and/or the romance scenes. Very shallow. Disney could have done better on this one.

    worth watching

The movie is fun, funny, adventerous. I personally feel like Depp's character is always a little weird (drunk, efeminate...something, but nobody else seems to think it is strange...) The fighting scenes are fun. The dead ship crew is kind of gross, my sensitive 9yod might not be able to watch it in the evening, 11yos thinks it's great fun.

I loved it, so did my son...

Of course, the morals are fairly pathetic (lying, cowardice, betrayal, cheating... of course it is about pirates ahem...) and I don't recommend a steady diet of anti-morals whatsoever, but this is the one I'd watch for pure fun! My 11 year old is a little sensitive to scary or creepy stuff, so he chose not to see it on his own. My 13 year old loved it, but I don't think as much as Star Wars or Lord of the Rings. But I love some action/adventure but with humor! Too bad they closed down CLEAN FILMS (edited video rentals)... that let my kids see a lot more videos than they ever will get to see now.

    TOO MUCH VIOLENCE!!!!!

After the first 10 minutes I wondered how a young person under 13 years old watching this movie would process the crows eating people trapped in cages? It only got worse from there with almost non stop violence which I am afraid our society has come to accept as entertainment. The fist fighting, stabbing, throat slashing, head chopping, etc. continued throughout the movie. This is definitely not a movie for young children to watch!

More action, less linear than the first.

This movie is the perfect case of summer movie madness. Tons of action, witty dialog, and a story that jumps around, but you are having too much fun to care. Johnny Depp again sells this movie purely on his performance. A few scenes may be a bit dark for younger viewers, but overall a lot less scary than the first.

    Great sequel

I thought it lived up to it's predessor very well, great action and effects. Lots of violence being a movie about pirates of course but that was all I would be concerned about. A little confusing but I'm hoping the last in the series will explain a little more.

I loved the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie. I believe the second one was a little worse. This movie is a lot like the first movie which isn't a bad thing. If you liked the first movie you will the second movie. If you didn't like the ifrst movie you won't like the second movie.

    A confusing, violent sequel

A lame sequel that is filled with too much plot confusion, sea monster violence (including a graphic torture scene) and unfunny humor. It's also way too long. If your 13, you might enjoy this. Kids under 12 should not see this. They will be scared by the creature gore and possibly by the Kraken. It's iffy for 12 and unappropriate for 11 and under. 14 and up will be OK.

Commonsense, I'm afraid, has disappointed. They've overcriticized an amazing movie. The plot may have a bit of a loose ending, but other than that this was a fantastic film. This may be unnecessary, but I'm going to post my own content overview so you can see from a teen's p.o.v. Sexual Content: minimal, although Elizabeth makes out a couple of times Violence: moderate to high. In the first scene, a man is ripped to pieces by crows; Jack almost gets roasted; an innocuous pirate's throat is slit; ships are devoured by monsters; Will is flogged; people are shot; Jack is in quite a predicament by the end. Language: Mild. Several pirate-style curses and one well-earned "Damn you, Jack Sparrow!" Social Behavior: Moderate. Jack doesn't seem to mind condemning his "friends". Drug/Alcohol/Tobacco: Jack is perpetually drunk.

Not as Good as the First or the Third, but Still Worth Watching...

The opening scene will be gross to anyone 12 and under. This movie has stabbings, slicings, and shootings. Though there is little blood, I wouldn't let anyone under twelve watch this movie. Eleven year olds will most likely be fine, but some will be grossed out. If your kid dosen't take too well with violence, then by no means should he/she be watching this. The Kraken scenes are very intense, and anyone under twelve will be on the edge of their seat on some scenes. Good movie for 11-12+

    Good...

This is a really good movie, although Pirates 1 was better. I've read some negative reviews from people saying that they had to leave the theatre half way through the movie because their children were too scared to stay. But notice that this movie is rated PG-13. That means that it's too scary for anyone under 13 (even though I'm 12 and I saw it, but I'm not easily scared)! It's your own fault if your kids were scrared because you took them to see it in the first place, even though it was rated PG-13. Parents, do some research and look at the ratings BEFORE you see a movie.

Action filled, fun, and freaky movie.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest is an action filled pirates movie about a pirate named (Captain) Jack Sparrow who is in search of a treasure chest containing Davy Jone's heart. Elizabeth and Will from the first movie are sentenced to death because they freed Jack Sparrow at the gallows. She and Will will be set free if they find Captain Sparrow and get him to say it was all his fault. This movie features a lot of violence; much of which is fairly graphic and intense. There are some pirates who are animals of the sea who are downright frightening for young viewers(8 and under)and could cause nightmares. Mild language is in this movie but is only used a few times. Here is a fact: Jack Sparrow does not have good social behavior and should not be considered a role model. When Will asks him to help Elizibeth and he, Jack says no. The only alcohol on this movie is rum- and there is lots of it. Spoiler Alert: At the end, Captain Jack Sparrow is eaten by the giant squid. (spoiler ends here) Even though there is a lot of violence in this movie, if you or your kids can handle Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, you can EASILY handle this movie. This movie is a must see for tween (and up) fans of the first movie. OK for kids 11 and up who don't mind violence, mild words, and rum. Great Movie. AAARRRGGG.

    Can't Get Enough!

An absolutely great picture! Depp's character, Jack Sparrow is as hillarious as ever, if not a bit more. And jokes from the 1st movie carry on, making it a bit more interesting for long-time Pirates fans. Orlando Bloom's acting is very good, he's perfect in this movie, right down to the facial expressions. Keira Knightley did not, and I repeat did NOT ask for a kiss with Johnny. That is an internet rumor and extremely fake. Without the kiss, Jack would not have been 'eaten' by the Kraken, therefore, no cliff-hanger, therefore, no At World's End. The violence is present, but duh. You're going to a pirate movie. Of course there are going to be swordfights. Accompanied by a great score (Hanz Zimmer), the Pirates are back, and better than ever! Amazing new never-before-seen movie action, like a three-way swordfight! Best Picture, and great special effects!
