Hayao Miyazaki's latest film is a great one. And a lot more family friendly. Although they americanized it a bit too much (anyone remember the song at the end?) by adding The Jonas Brother's, well..other brother and Miley Cyrus's sister. But it's still a great movie.
I bet it will be another well recieved Miyazaki film.
Before I actually say review, let me say one thing: What is with the other reviews?! They're kinda freaky. And Jonas fangirls, you're off your rockers. Don't see a movie just because of a voice actor. You won't actually see him. (I don't like it that Disney Channel stars are voicing anime. It's just... wrong.)
My real review: I loved other great Miyazaki films like Spirited Away, Princess Monoke, and Kiki's Delivery Service. I can't wait to see how this one will be. I doubt I'll see it with my parents because I'm not sure how they'd react to anime. Even though it's aimed at younger kids, I'm still anxious to see it, mainly because Mizazaki hasn't put out any movies for a while. Heh heh, I'll watch the Japanese version on Youtube and write a real review later!
I love it.It's not computer graphics it's a cartoon. But beautifully illustrated. The kids here really look cute. And it was funny that the old woman. The one with the blue clothes.Ponyo squirted her with water and the oldie said that there was a tsunami.Overall I loved it.
I watched this in Japanese with subtitles, and it was a pretty good movie. The massive flood and the mountain of ships may scare younger viewers, and I am not particularly keen on the romantic aspect, but great movie overall. Though I still prefer Totoro.
The movie Ponyo had some scary parts. Ponyo and the boy Sosake basically get married at the end of the movie. Sometimes it has some harsh parts and fantasy violence. It had lots of fantasy stuff about the ocean and that part was sort of violent. And that explains the waves turning into giant fish that Ponyo was running on.
It was weird when Ponyo started out as a tiny goldfish, went to a bigger fish, turned into a human, and then Ponyo started changing back into a human/fish and then at the end she was a tiny gold fish again, and then turned back into a human. Some of it was sort of crazy, like when the giant waves were going up like a water volcano.
Overall, I think it was a good movie. I will watch it again when it comes out on DVD. The scary parts maybe won’t be as scary on the TV compared to the theater screen. It was sort of cute and at the same time really weird.
Umm....yeah. Not one of your best work Miyazaki. What I hated the most was the voice acting. Noah Cyrus was terrible at voicing Ponyo and it sounded like she was yelling at you most of the time. Overall it was good . . . I guess. It was weird at most parts.
Although not quite as great as My Neighbor Totoro or Spirited Away, Miyazaki still delivered a promising movie. Ponyo was cute and charming, the animation was brilliant (as usual), and the visual effects were stunning! The violence is quite tame. There is some romance between Ponyo and Sosuke. I still don't get why a five-year-old had to make a love promise, though. Other than that, it was a nice movie.
I really didn't think my 5 year old cousin should have watched this...it was really horrible, the mother left her 5-year old at home alone, and drove through a tsunami. Our family nicknamed her "the worst mother ever"
I liked it, Miyazaki is great, but I thought it was SUPER weird that Ponyo and Sosuke got like... married at 5 years old...
It was so cute that they got Noah Cyrus and Frankie Jonas! haha they would be such a cute couple... :)
As always, Miyazaki's film was splendid, &they have a deeper meaning, not just a film for pure entertainment. However, this particular Miyazaki film was far less interesting to me than most of the other's from Studio Ghibli. It was cute enough, &definatly family-friendly.
I did find it a bit weird, as Ponyo's father is strange &her mother is a sea-goddess...I prefered the original Japanese version, as opposed to the English dub.
Cute kid movie, I suppose, but I didn't like it enough to say "go out &buy it" (even though I did purchase it).
This is an AWESOME movie! My family rented it from Netflix, and I have to say it was truly enjoyable!
Sosuke is a very polite and sweet kid who listens and obeys his mother, while Ponyo is stubborn but adorable at the same time. They are just like normal kids--they will risk anything to help their friends.
The only reason I rated this for five and up is because kids younger than this age might be frightened at some scenes and get bored at others.
Enjoy this wonderful film! :)
