Great unrealistic fairytale film. I would watch it. Mia does say 'shut up' and I think there may have been some other language. But I would let a 12 year old watch it
This movie did not deserve a G rating. There was too much emphasis on kissing between 15 year olds. My own 15 year old was shocked by the protrayal of french kissing in a G movie. Adults in the movie assume that 15 year old Mia has sex with a boy because of photographs in the paper of her kissing the boy and appearing naked, clutching a towel to herself.
It was just OK for me. My 7yo daughters loved it. Parents should know that there is a bit of teen kissing - just enough that you kind of roll your eyes and say, Ok, enough already. I would say it is really more for older kids - just all the things that the main character is going through - are teen things, not little girl things. Also, the movie pays a fair amount of lip service to the idea that it is what's inside that counts, but then spends a lot of time making over the lead actress from ugly duckling to gracefull swan.
I love this movie except for a few things...there were some sexual topics mentioned and body parts. If I could get this exited besides this thing and the whole beach scene I think everything else was great! I love how she learns who she is and accepts who that is.
Along with THE WIZARD OF OZ, I find THE PRINCESS DIARIES to be one of the greatest films ever made. Anne Hathaway is perfec,t as is Julie Andrews. Good for anyone: girl or boy, Age 5 to Age 15.
Andrews and Hathaway light up the screen in an enchanting fairy tale story
Sexual Content (Not an Issue): Some kissing.
Violence (Not an Issue): Mild, comedic peril with no one hurt.
Language (Not an Issue): One use of "suck". A term of deity is used as an expletive.
Social Behavior (On): Lots of usings and rude behavior, but the movie makes it clear that this is not acceptable behavior. Mia learns to take responsibility for her actions. Both she and Clarisse are strong women. Diverse (race and personality-wise) characters.
Commercialism (Not an Issue): None.
Drug/Alcohol/Tobacco (Pause): Some social drinking. Presumable reference to being drunk.
I LOVE the flick THE PRINCESS DIARIES! Anne Hathaway is a beautiful and talented starlet who grows better every film, and seeing Julie Andrews again is great. Boys and girls alike should rush to see this hilarious, fun family movie.
The Princess Diaries. How do I begin to discribe The Princess Diaries. It is one of my all time faveroite movies. I can relate to Mia, minus the princess part. Someday I wish I'll have the courage just like Mia. Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews are fantastical.
Fun, fun, fun! Nothing to be concerned about at all! Anne Hathaway gives a knockout performance and Julie Andrew is, as always, spectacular. The story line is cute and it will have you laughing constantly. Great for all kids and adults!
This is a lovely movie for everyone. Well, excpept for teenage boys. They might not appreciate the humour and storyline. Still, it's an awesome movie and completely appropriate for kids of any age.
Parents should know that this movie pushes the G rating in regards to sexual content. There are brief make-out scenes in this movie. One scene showed Anne Hathaway in just a robe; it was a prank set up by mean girls pretending to be her friends. Above all that, I believe this is an excellent Disney movie. I recomend this for everyone! (By the way, ABC Family is the only network to give this movie a TV-PG rating.)
I think the "on for 6 and above" is way off the mark with this one. There is a lot of kissing and practically fondling between teenagers, bullying and mean-spirited interactions. I have a daughter who is 7 and I stopped it about 30 minutes into it. It is appropriate for an older audience, probably 10 or 11 years old.
