The greatest horror/suspense film of all times... a must-watch if you haven't already.
A masterpiece from the horror genre. Don't listen to people who don't know what they're talking about like Jadenp (reviewer below) who laughs at this film. IT WAS FROM THE 60'S!!!!!!!!!! Do you expect for it to be as visually scary as films like Signs? Of course not! Use your brain for once! You have to think about the tension that these characters are going through, then you can look at me and tell me it is scary. This is Hitchcock's masterpiece. One of my 10 favorite films of all-time. I'm not saying it's one of the 10 BEST. All of the performances are great, but by far the best thing in this film is how Hitchcock creates tension, and how he creates a great climax so when you're at the end, you will be totally satisfied. I promise you will be on the edge of your seat, biting your nails and when the ending enrolls itself, your jaw will be dropped. Psycho has also one of the greatest scenes of all-time, which is the famous Shower Scene. (NOTE that the Shower Scene is soooooo good that I capitalized it). P.S. Just because this film is in B&W does not give you any reason whatsoever to not watch it right away. Many other films on the greatest of all-time list are in B&W like Casablanca, Raging Bull, and It's a Wonderful Life.

i rate this title ON for ages 14+
What to watch out for * Messages: One character has some major mother issues, and the other ones aren't innocent, either. * Violence: The famous shower scene never shows the knife touching flesh, but it's still terrifying. There are also several very frightening scenes involving a corpse. * Sex: Sex goes hand in hand with violence, although nothing revealing is shown. A couple is shown post-sex, though they are clothed. * Language: Not an issue. * Consumerism: Not an issue. * Drinking, drugs, & smoking: Not an issue.

Bad role models-none of them are great people but nothing too scary. The only supposedly creepy part is the shower scene and the only thing that might be mildly creepy is her screaming.

Great movie
A horror movie classic that basicly created the slasher genre. The sexual content is nothing to be concerned about and the violence insn't crazy. Not a bloodbath.

not scary.
No language, sex, nudity, or violence. The famous 'shower scene' is so cheesy! its not scary at all! my little brother and I laughed at it! They dont show the knife even touching her! there's no actual violence. Haha, not scary at all.

Not THAT Bad
The way I look at it, it's not that bad. Psycho is a horror classic, and if a kid wants to see it, he/she might as well see it. Yet, at the same time, if a kid below 12 has even heard of this film, they don't need to see it. It does evoke some... fear, in a sense. It isn't "nightmarish," but there can be some post-viewing shivers, if you know what I mean. In my opinion, it isn't the shower scene that would "get" most parents. There is no nudity, and the violence can only be imagined. I will say that the review is slightly incorrect; if you are looking for it, you do see the knife touching the skin. Alfred Hitchcock had such a mind for things I'm sure he intended this subtlety. The scariest part for me was the revelation of a corpse. It wasn't violent, but it was definitely creepy. The only "violent" scene was the one in which the private investigator is climbing the stairs in the Bates Mansion, and "Mrs. Bates" comes out and murders him (sorry, spoiler). His face is slashed, and this could be viewed as violence. While I fully realize that the other "slasher" scenes are intending to be violence, modern times have brought children and teenagers to where no blood and no gore is not scary, and not effective. We must remember that this was released in 1960, when it was considered one of the scariest movies of all time. Even the remake (1998) was only slightly more horrifying. If you know your children cannot "do" horror films, don't let them watch this. But, if you have a movie-loving child, this is a must see. Without Psycho, we would be no where near where we are today, not just with horror films, but with all film.

Hitchcok's masterful thriller has some violence; disturbing images.
"Psycho" is one of the most influental movies of all time. Hitchcock's then unique way to direct this movie was something completely new and still is terrific. The cinematography of this movie, and the cutting became famous and was referenced often in the following years. "Psycho" is not an usual crime dram/thriller, it is a complex and psychological story - something completely new at that time. Still, the movie features one of the most shocking and unexpected endings of all time and gives goosebumps. The superb, trendsetting soundtrack by Bernard Herrmann also plays a huge part in the movies excellent way to creat the dark athmosphere it has. The movie is PG-13 at nowaday's standards. But it has its violent moments: (SPOILERS, please only read if you have seen the movie, there is a plot twist at the end and i don't want to spoil it:) -A character gets stabbed under the shower, blood runs down her legs and lands in the tub (the movie is black and white). You never see the knife penetrating the skin. -A man gets slashed near the eye (a gash is seen), he falls down the stairs. Then he gets stabbed to death (only the knife going up and down is shown). -A decaying corpse is seen. (END OF SPOILERS) The movie can disturb some people, but it is not as strong as nowaday's movies. And i would not call Psycho a horror movie, rather a thriller. I recommend it to viewers 12 and up. Info for CSM: The movie is rated R, and not Unrated. You can see it on the DVD cover and on several websites.

Psycho (SPOILERS)
A masterpiece, and although the film was very violent for it's time, to today's standards it is definitely appropriate for any teen. The famous shower scene has nudity, but nothing is really shown. During the film a naked woman is stabbed repeatedly and man is stabbed in the face. The film is a horror film, and although it is not too scary it is very intense. The twist ending has references to cross-dressing which some people might not find appropriate.

A classic
Pyscho is a classic that will not dissapoint. It is enjoyable and age appropriate for anyone ten and up. This movie will do no damage to kids "precious little minds" as most kids have already seen much worse. The violence is low key and I don't remember anything too racy. There was little to no bad language and the movie was overall fake. My dad wouldn't let me see this movie until I was 12, and when I finally saw it, it semmed like a joke. That didn't mean I hate it, as I fell in love with it instantly. It's still a classic and nobody can change that. (Note: Be warned, the sequals are NOT appropriate for ANYONE under 16. They have plenty of sex and violence unlike the original.)

It doesn't get much better than this!
Psycho is perfect example that a movie doesn't have to have a big budget to be a masterpiece. Suspenseful and down-right scary at times, the movie isn't for kids. If you let your kid watch it, you might feel the need to cover their eyes during the violent parts...I.E the classic shower scene that is considered by many to be one of the greatest scenes of all time...so it's probably better that you wait until your child is old enough to handle the violence.

Amazing But "The Shower Scene" Is Scary
This masterpiece is one of Hitchcock's best films, and probably the greatest horror/thriller film in existence. Also, may I say that Anthony Perkins performance as Norman Bates, was brilliant! But the films murders including "The Shower Scene" are very scary. Plus the shocking ending is disturbing as well.

R when it was first officially rated in the 1980s (not rated in '60s upon first release); should easily get a PG-13 now.
My rating: PG-13 for thematic elements and some violence.

LOVE IT
This movie was absolutely amazing! At least one of the best horror movies ever made. Don't not watch because it is in black and white, you'll get used to it. It is just soooo good.
