There is nothing worrying, but it's not of interest to children because it is really about the hierarchy in fine-dining kitchens and food critics and has a lot of specific food terminology....yawn.

Good for adults...not for kids!
Absolutely hated, the first scene with the couple fighting and then kissing. What does a young child need to see that for? What "mood" needs to be set for the young child? Second scene. Grandma with gun! She shoots everything, she is ready to kill! Third scene, the HUGE mouth to mouth makeout kiss between the two cooks. Why do my kids need to see that? How is that furthering the story. I don't even get why romance is always thrown in to EVERY SINGLE CHILD's film! It's like we want them to start kissing each other! The one good thing I really liked about the film for kids, is when the main character gets really upset at the rat because he betrayed his trust. That was a good message. And it was a very clear message. As an adult I enjoyed the film, but for my kids, I've already thrown the DVD away.

Family violence
While I enjoyed the movie, no one has mentioned what I thought was a pretty disturbing scene near the beginning. As Remy (the rat) is scampering through the rooftops of Paris, he observes a couple in a heated argument. By heated, I mean the man is grabbing the woman's arms and she is screaming and pointing a gun at him. Remy keeps going, and then there's the sound of a gunshot. Remy returns to see that the gun has gone off, the couple is still struggling, but then the man overpowers the woman and kisses her, she struggles at first and then seems to be overcome with passion and stops resisting and becomes what one may assume is a willing participant. I was a little disturbed by the domestic and sexual violence (physical struggle, forced embrace) presented in the scene, and think that for children, this would be an important point to address, and something to know about should you/your children be survivors of family violence.

Perfect...A Deliciously Well-Crafted Tale...
RATATOUILLE is film magic. It is funny, visually gorgeous, moving, and very smart. For anyone who likes Pixar or just good movies in general, this is a must-see. There is some cartoon violence. A mad grandma wildly shoots at some rats with a shotgun in a scene that will be scary for little kids. Remy the rat is tossed around in the kitchen and has knives and axes thrown at him. There is no sex, and language is one "h*ll" ("welcome to "h*ll").

Most unimpressive Pixar so far, but still light years ahead of most films I've ever seen outside of the Pixar studio.
Some peril includes a gun toting grandma, knife throwing chefs, as well as a somewhat scary sewer scene. The use of the word bloody. Some brief kissing. As I'm sure you've guessed, there is very little to worry about. This film is simply spectacular. It is my least favorite Pixar, but still a spectacular work of art. I reccomend it highly to EVERYONE over the age of four.

I really like this one!
This movie is a great family movie. There are alot of moral values you can learn and it also teaches kids to follow there dreams and never give up..I like this.

not one of pixar's best
but very original. A few instances of hell, but i mean that gun-toting granny think was meant comically, not violently.

Way too violent
There is quite a bit of violence in this movie. The opening scene shows a Granny with a gun blasting apart her home to kill the rats. This is followed by scene after scene of the lead character in peril. The expert animation and music and cutting make it very scary. My twin 5 year olds could not be comforted when we saw this in the theater. We kept reassuring them that it would turn out OK, but the scenes kept coming. So we walked out of the theatre. Instead we bought a book about the movie and interestingly enough, in the book, Granny does not have a gun, she his holding a mop instead. Obviously the people who made the book saw a problem with this scene as well. Also, the quick scene with the quarrelling lovers shooting a gun and then kissing should not be there as well.

A smart movie for thinking kids...and adults
I love Ratatouille, and have watched it with my now four-year old dozens of times. I took him to the theater when it first came out last year, and explained some of the "edgy" things that were happening, as they happened. My son really likes movies and can sit still for a long time - I can see how kids who enjoy more action might get restless. One thing I do want to address is the concern some people are expressing about the use of alcohol in this movie. First of all, these people are cooks - FRENCH cooks - and are, for the most part, demonstrating that wine can be enjoyed as part of a meal, not in mass quantities at a party, etc. Second, has anyone seen Dumbo? This is my son's all-time favorite film, and happens to feature an extended scene with the main character accidentally getting drunk on champagne and hallucinating. It's kind of hilarious to hear people say that Disney has no business putting alcohol in a "G" rated movie - they were doing that way back in 1941. Just a thought.

Casual gun scene shock
Early in the movie there is a 2 second scene which shows quarrelling lovers fire a handgun, then make up with a passionate kiss. This is not the kind of behaviour I want my daughter to see, ever. What is this doing in a children's movie?!! It was a total throw away scene, what were they thinking?
- I rate this title on for age 8 and give it
I was a little shocked to see the scene where Ratatouille is looking down into the apartment and the couple is fighting, with the woman holding a gun to the man. Even though the couple makes up,I think the movie could have done without that.
- I rate this title off for age 13 and give it
I am shocked with the fact it is rated G with the granny gun scene!
I can not believe that the gun scene in the movie is not considered violence! A G-rated movie should mean no weapons, displayed or used. This movie displays a shot gun and the use of it. I understand the use of the gun but it is not for young kids to see!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is not a G movie.

What happened to kids movies?
Within the first few minutes they are calling each other/themselves stupid and are being chased with shotguns? Perhaps if it would have been a passing scene I would understand, seeing how Disney needs to have violence somewhere, but it kept occuring! My 4 year old got bored and we shut it off and discussed guns. And of course the main character was orphaned....typical Disney fashion.

creative
Our family just lovedtis ,at first the thought of a rat cooking,as it sends out the messege for people to capture anyone can do anything if they just put thier minds and hearts into it. And if folks wotked together how life may be a little easier and a nicer place to be,it was very commical, and I would diffently go see it again.

KID'S WILL LOVE IT
THIS IS ALSO A MOVIE TO WHERE IT TRY'S TO SEND OUT A MESSEGE.HOPEFULLY KID'S GET IT.ONE CAN NEVER SAY NEVER,ALWAYS BELIEVE YOU CAN,AND IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT YOU ARE OR WHO YOU ARE ,JUST BELIEVE.FUNNY!!! I LOVED IT,VERY COOL!

Disappointing for Pixar/Disney
Interesting idea, but missed the mark of creativity achieved by The Incredibles, Toy Story and Monsters, Inc. I am concerned that the phrase "welcome to hell" is used in a G-rated movie. I am concerned that the main character is an illegitimate child, born out of wedlock, only discovered when his famous father died. G-rated movies, rated thus for safe family viewing, need to reinforce strong family values.

A great movie. Surprised by the G rating...
This is an awesome omvie that all kids 5+ should see. I was surprised by the G rating though. There is one scene where a man gets Linguini drunk to get information out of him. Also, some scenes might scare younger kids (a woman tries to shoot Remy and his brother, Remy is separated from his family, etc.)
- I rate this title on for age 5 and give it
Mostly good
There are a couple of scenes that could have been left out (the dead rats in mousetraps hanging, stomachs to the window, in a dark storefront window at nighttime in the rain - scared my kids) and the overly long gun scene at the beginning. The animation is awesome, and the story/message is great. I also personally didn't like hearing the father rat say "Shut up" to his son. All in all though, it is nice to see a Disney movie that has a G rating that is appropriate for little kids. The movie is one we enjoyed enough to buy the DVD.

Not exactly what I expected.
I thought the movie was cute. There were some violent scenes; a shot gun weilding grandma, the knives thrown at Remy. Could be a little scary for little ones, thinking what would happen if they got separated from there parents. I did not like the end.

Too Deep and Dark for Small Kids
While the animation was amazing in this film, overall I felt much of the content was too deep and/or dark for a G rating. There were several incidents involving gun usage (Remy see a domestic dispute involving a gun) and other forms of aggression (Collette pins Linguine down with knives). The characters don't speak to each other very nicely. Most disturbing of all was when Remy's dad takes Remy to a shop whose window is filled with dead rats hanging in traps. It was upsetting to my 4 year old. I also think that many of the complexities of the message regarding stealing and giving credit where credit is due are too nuanced for small children to understand.

Fun, family entertainment!

Great movie for kids!
I saw the preview for this movie, and I couldn't wait to get the video on DVD. I saw the movie last week, and I really enjoyed it. I think the message the movie gives is a positive one; be yourself instead of someone you are not.

PIXAR HAS DONE IT AGAIN
You can never hate one their movies!! I'm too young to have kids of my own, but when I pop them out they will be watching everything Disney! Violence is part of our world, you can't hide it.

GREAT FLICK!
I brought my Ratatoullie DVD to school so we could watch it in study hall. The teacher freaked in the middle because there was kissing. She said "I thought this was a KIDS' Movie!" Hello, we were 13 and 14. It is still fine for younger kids. I think that people are so protective of what movies their kids watch, but kids will find it out in real life anyways. GREAT FLICK!

good movie!
This movie was really good but it was really long. There was really nothing all that bad in it exept a person trys to get another one drunk to get information out of him. Besides that it was a good movie. ok for kids 6+

awkward...
ok here is what i think-i think that the MPAA (motion picture association of america) went WAY too easy on this film. it's as if they think that since it's disney it HAS TO BE RATED "G". This film had a few refrences to "hell" and the rat's appendages almost got severed a few times with a knife. Of course it was "cute" and "cuddly" and "french". Overall it was very cuddly.

Adorable movie, but great for all ages
Normally I stear clear of anything that is a "family movie" because that translates to LAME, But I thoroughly enjoyed this one. The animation is stellar, and all the characters well thought out. Several people I spoke to said they were bored by it, albeit they're probably 10 years older than the suggested age, but I was hooked from beginning to end. When I watch a movie several things are important to me: qaulity of the production, how good the actors are, how complex it is, and the overall story line, and this movie had it all. The content it wholly appropiate for the younger viewers, but still appealing to older poeple, the animation, as I said, was great, the voice actors fit well, and the story line was easy to understand, but also had its twists. Overall I would say this is a must see for anyone under 12(if not older).

A fantastic feast
This movie is the second best pixar movie in my opinion. It has fantastic story for an animated movie these days. If you think this is a story about a rat that wants to be a chef than you got it all wronge. It is way more complex than that. Im not going to give out the story to anyone. It is too good to tell. The animation is great and very detalied. If you like pixar and like to spend time with the family this is the movie for you.

Best Movie of 2007!!!
Undoubtedly the best movie of 2007. This is a hilarious movie with a unique storyline that still manages to bring suspense that you will never see anywhere else. You will love it. There is nothing controversial about this except that there is minor usage of alchohol, but this is France, and they are in a fancy resturaunt, but still. They do show what alchohol does when Skinner uses it to get Linguini drunk. Other than this, no one can find anything. The movie does have a family storyline in which Remy must build a relation with his dad. Emeil even says, "What can be more important than family." This is a movie for everyone. Although only adults can get some of the jokes (actually my parents had to watch it a couple of times to get one of them, surprisingly I got it the second time), they do a good job of making sure everyone can understand it. Get it!

I hated this movie
It was idiotic. Little kids may like it but it bored me nearly to death. I could barely tolerate 30-40 minutes of it before I got up and left my brother (older, actually and he loves this movie and said hes watched it like 5-6 times) and my mom to watch it. It was just about a kid (orphan, young adult) who works at a resturaunt and becomes friends with a rat and they team up and become great chefs. Normal disney twists, he meets a mean girl, turns out to be nice and marries her. Fights with the rat, makes up later. Finds out he is son of a world famous chef who is dead. Oh, and for just a bit of added demention, the movie is in Paris.

A funny movie!
I watched this at my friends house not that long ago and it was quite funny. This movie is appropriate for all ages and the most inapropriate part was when the girl and guy kissed. That is definately not something I consider bad. Other than that this movie was great. I can't honestly say i was rolling on the ground laughing, but it definately was a good movie. If you enjoyed Shrek or other Pixar movies you will probably adore this movie.
- I rate this title on for age 2 and give it
I laughed watching this.
RATATOUILLE is a hilarious film for young and old. I loved it at the beginning with the "gas-mask granny", "sorry to be rude but we are French" and Collette and Linguini kissing in public!! i liked the way they did the animation - it looked brilliant. Watch it if you can.

Anyone can cook
Ratatouille (Rat-a-too-ee) is about a rat that doesn't want to eat trash and wants to eat HUMAN food. He goes to get a cook book from an old lady's house and the rat almost gets killed!!! There are some funny parts as well...but the rat turns up in France, Paris where he becomes a chef under a new chef teenager boy's cooking hat! The rat then becomes the teenager's friend a helps him cook! But will the rat be shown and will his cooking be nice? There is mild violence and langauge!
