This slasher-musical hybrid is very entertaining. In a dystopian future, a mass organ failure occurs, causing a company called GeneCo to offer organ financing. Led by GeneCo's presence in this future becomes so prevalent, it causes a worldwide addiction to surgery, not to mention a GeneCo-made painkiller called Zydrate. People called graverobbers illegally obtain Zydrate from corpses and sell it on the street. A girl named Shiloh lives in this dystopian world and has a blood condition inherited from her dead mother, and is sheltered from the world by her overprotective father. But...Shiloh is curious to explore the world of GeneCo, and won't turn back. There's much more to this awesome world, but I can't spoil anymore to the story. Yes, Paris Hilton is in this movie, but don't let that fool you - she's really good in Repo! Also, there are some other surprisingly good actors in this flick, namely Ogre from the band Skinny Puppy (as Pavi Largo, the guy with the weird face), Alexa Vega, known to many as Carmen from the Spy Kids trilogy (as Shiloh), and Terrance Zdunich, a relative unknown who has worked with the art in many, many movies (as the Grave Robber). In terms of content, Repo! obviously deserves an R for good reason. This is the bloodiest musical film I've ever seen, MUCH MORE SO than Sweeney Todd. While there are many scenes comparable to a slasher flick (eye gouging, throat slitting, an impaling, and lots of stabbing) there's also a lot of surgical gore. Intestines, spinal columns and hearts are all repossessed graphically. Other than the violence, this is tame for an R-rated film. A woman bares her breasts to the camera briefly, and there are a few scenes of suggestive dancing (mostly "grinding"). The word "c**t" is used once (and it's considered by many to be more offensive than the f-word), and there are about 5 or 6 f-words, not too many for an R-rated movie. Finally, there's much talk and use of an addictive futuristic painkiller called Zydrate. Overall, Repo is a bombastic and awesome musical, but it's not for kids.

Psh best movie ever.
This movie is dark, gorey, has horrible role-models, shows the danger of too much power in the hands of one person, what happens when over protectivism in a parent goes too far, death, depression, and sex. It's the best frickin' movie ever. But remember, even if you think a movie sounds horrible, it doesn't nessecarily mean it's horrible. Either way, it's my favorite movie. The message and plot are amazing, and the music kicks a**....pardon my language.....watch it!

Can they handle it?
Personally, I loved this movie, but it all depends on your tastes. This film is almost entirely comprised of very adult-like themes (drug addiction, medical issues, murder, etc.) and is - in the broadest sense - a slasher film. The plot is extremely well conceived and carried out, but sometime the acting can seem a little gimmicky. The songs are great, and Alexa Vega (Shiloh) and Terrance Zdunich (Graverobber) were amazingly cast and played their parts well. A lot of the content really isn't appropriate for children, but it mostly depends on the individual child. Most other kids my age wouldn't be able to handle this movie unless they had a strong stomach and had a mature outlook on things (especially the adult issues in this film) and could watch it without it squicking them or causing them to continually question everything because they don't understand it. Using the typical age stereotypes, I'd say this is appropriate for older children (but could also be watched by more mature tweens).

Depends who the kids are.
I saw this movie last year, and it instantly became one of my favorites. The music is amazing, the acting is fabulous, and the casting couldn't be any more perfect. Alexa Vega/Shiloh is a great role model for girls. You can't really rate this based on age since it sort of takes a certain mentality to watch it. Like, a 17 might be able to stomach it, while a 25 year old can't bear to watch it. There's really not much wrong with it. It's a good movie and it doesn't get the credit it deserves. I'd say watch this over the knock off "Repo Men"...

Best Operetta Ever!
This is my favorite movies, I watch it with my 5 year old niece all the time. It is great... I don't consider any of it to be inappropriate, nothing that I wouldn't show to my children. It is a story of people paying for not keeping up with their payments for 3 or more months and getting their organs repossessed. It has a miraculous ending... Not many people would like it, though. It is a musical, and moves kind of slowly in the beginning, and is very gory.

This was a decent thriller I was very entertained but some of the content may not my suitable for kiddies even though it involves a 9 year old you wouldn't want your kids getting influenced by that. Also unnatural sexual behavior kids may not understand yet and the opening sequence can be terrifying.

A wonderful musical film.
I saw this when I was 13. It was brilliant! However, it's not the best idea to watch it unless you have a strong stomach. While there is some fake looking gore, some is quite realistic, and there is a lot of blood and internal organs. However, it's great for late primary school students and above, provided they are mature and understand the concept of drug addiction and other adult themes. While there is quite a bit of course language, mature children would know that those words shouldn't be repeated. The violence/strong themes are toned down by the fact that it's a musical.

I think this movie was great, but the review this site gives it completely ignores the unique plot. It's not all "slash," but an interesting story between a girl and her father. But for crying out loud, it's NOT for six-year-olds! (*cough drchunk cough*) The reason your child might "like" this movie is because it might make him seem "older" and "cooler" to like it, but he probably doesn't even understand the plot of the movie. (And the song isn't "Addicted to the Night," by the way. It's "Addicted to the KNIFE.") If you let children watch this under the age of 10, that's just bad parenting there. It has many suggestive scenes, and the last thing I want to see is a six-year-old boy loose there innocent-ness. BUT, definatley a must-see for ages 13+ with a strong stomach.

I recommend it, but read this first.
I was first introduced to this movie from the song, "Chase the morning" which I somehow came across back in 5th grade. I instantly fell in love with the songs, and was dying to see the movie. So until then, I spread it around to my other friends. They fell in love as well. Pretty soon, we had a large group of kids wanting to see the movie. So a lot of the parents got together, watched it, and gave us their reviews. They let us watch it, because they knew if we felt uncomfortable with anything, we could easily stop it. I was a little shocked at how bloody it was in the beginning, but soon fell in love with the movie just like the songs. It's not so much as the movie itself that you have to worry about, it's the characters. Shiloh Wallice. A young 17 year old girl who is infected with a blood disease she got from her mother. She has to take special medication, and isn't aloud to leave the house, due to her infection attacking at any time. While most would not consider her a good role model due to her habits of rebelling her father, she has plenty of courage to face things that she knows she's afraid of, and sticks up for her family. Graverobber is my favorite character. He is the narrator of the story, and seems to appear everywhere. His other role in the movie is being the leader of an "underground" area of the city where he runs an illegal drug business selling what is called Zydrate. This glowing, blue liquid is what is used during genetic surgeries. It stops the pain, but if used improperly, it can mess you up. This is where Amber Sweet comes in. Miss Sweet is played by the notorious Paris Hilton. I was surprised by her acting and voice in this movie, because it was great. But she has a bit of a mouth. I would recommend skipping the song "Mark it Up" due to it's uh, lyrics. Amber has two brother's, both of which are sexually... abusive. Pavi Largo, is the charismatic face robber, played by Ogre from Skinny puppy. He is the most sexual with his "Genterns." Genterns are women who walk around in white lab coats that are remarkably short. I find this part a bit degrading to women, but it's not too bad. Also, be forewarned that when they are around, they mostly have sexual noises being made. But nothing bad is happening. Luigi Largo is pretty much the worst. He is a foul mouthed man who murders for fun. Enough said. I'll let you figure out the rest of the characters, because I don't want to ruin the whole story, I just gave you a heads up on what you would want to maybe... not see? Towards the end, during the song "We started this Opera Sh**" a woman stands up and sings about how GeneCo has made her a new beautiful woman, then she disrobes her chest for a few seconds, and then it goes on. This is also the song where the genterns moan just a little to much for my taste, but that doesn't ruin the movie. Well, that about sums it up! I hope this helped you and your decision of letting your kids watch this. All I have to say is, you know what your kids like. If you know that they are mature, and can handle, let them watch it. Besides the blood, it's a really good plot with great songs. Thank you.

One of my favorite dark operas along with Phantom
This movie is a blend of horror, irony, future times, and symbolic factors. The movie is about a future where surgery IS the Earth. But along with that there is organ repossession, which is pretty gory. Zydrate is a drug that helps numb you for surgery, and it is addictive. I think this is musical and theater art at it's finest

Repossess CommonSense Media.
It isn't a movie made for kids. The review however makes it sound as bad as saw but SAW is endless killing. Repo! Has intricate plotlines, amazing music, and no CommonSense baby brigaders does not count Paris Hilton as a main star. It's Stewart Anthony Head known for his roles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Shilo Wallace is played by former kid spy you all know her as Carmen Cortez, Alexa Vega all grown up. The main director even played a part in it (The Graverobber.) If your the people who drag your kids to horror movies just to prove it's innapropriate then don't even think about it. It's sexuel in some places yes, it creeped my mother out but I watched it before anyone else I knew did and I fell in utter love. The music intrigued me, the plotline did as well and frankly...A lot worse is out these days and Repo! At least is a decent film overall. Stop reviewing horror movies for kids because your only being an irritating baby brigader if you do take little kids to horror films. If your a teen go ahead, watch it we all know more teens these days watch worse in anime's like Umineko, Highschool of the Dead and Higurashi then this. I say GO GO GO ALL TEENAGE FORCES TO WATCH REPO!

Decent Movie, Incredible Soundtrack
A very violent movie; it's low budget so it's not as graphic as some but some ideas displayed here are nauseating by any standard. It also has some sexuality and language but it's not too bad compared to many R-rated movies. Anyway, the story is alright although not particularly engaging but the soundtrack simply blew my mind. Possibly the only movie ever that mixes gothic rock, opera, heavy metal, accordions and occasional death metal growls; and it sure is an experience. While most of the characters aren't great actors, they are all decent singers and some (Sarah Brightman, Anthony Stewart Head, Paul Sorvino, Terrance Zdunich) are amazing. Another interesting thing is that the movie casts Paris Hilton and to tell you the truth she's not all that bad; although her role is barely acting at all, just playing herself (if you see it, you'll know what I mean). All in all, the movie itself is decent and a nice gothic horror flick but it really is the soundtrack that brings it up to the next level. This movie is the definition of cult classic, a cult which I am a proud member of!

A Great Low Budget Movie, but Should Be Revied By Parents First
As a younger teenage girl (15) it's difficult for me to see horror movies that my parents find appropriate. This one I had to sneak, and for good reason. With in the first few minutes, there are exposed breasts, reposessed organs, and lots and lots of blood. This is definately not for small children, but this also isn't SAW. Behind the blood, guts, sexual references and drugs (Zydrate) there are many messages that can be good for teaching children with strong stomaches. I'd much sooner my child see this over SAW. The music is phenominal, the acting is good for a low budget film and the story line is something everyone can enjoy (A sheltered girl wanting freedom and a man having to hide his two very seperate lives). I would reccomend this movie to any horror movie lover, but for younger teens and tweens, the parents should definately review it first and keep in mind the children's tolerence for blood and guts (literally).

This movie is AWESOME! It combines my two favorite things.... Horror, and Metal/Rock Music! Its the perfect musical! But this movie is very explicit in a few ways. Of course there is the repo man who slices people open and rips out there guts when they don't pay in time. Also, there are a few very sexual and nasty songs, including one that includes Paris Hilton, that is about an extreme drug to numb before sugery, portrayed in an extremely sexual way (A weird nurse has (fake) sex with here while her eyes go red and saying "I can't feel nothin at all") Also has brief female nudity, and some language. Very good, but definitley not for younglings!

Repo: The genetic opera is the perfect treat for horror fans
Sex/Nudity: Brief glimpse at partial female nudity. Some suggestive dancing. Violence/Scariness: Lots and lots of gory, graphic violence. Most of the deaths involve the Repo man cutting people in their abdomen area and getting their organs. You see this act on screen. In the end, a woman sticks her fingers in her eyes and you see blood gushing out. You see her eye sockets ripped out and then she dies. Gore involves mostly disembowelment, one scene of an eye gouge, and a few stabs. Profanity: Very minimal for an R rating. At least 5 f words. Some s words, some a words, one use of the word "balls", and the b word. Drug content: Don't recall any drinking or smoking. Commercialism: Well it is a horror and a musical. It might attract people to see The rocky horror picture show. Social Behavior: Not good. The repo man usually disembowels his patients if they don't have their pay check. Age recommendation: 17+. Lots of graphic violence. There are many acts of disembowelment. Sexual content is surprisingly low. Only one 2-3 second glimpse of partial female nudity. Some suggestive dancing. The profanity is also very low for an R rating. Only 5 f words and more mild cuss words. The sexual content and profanity are hardly an issue. The violence is the biggest issue.

ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!
I am a big fan of Sarah Brightman and with the permission of my mom, I watched this movie with her. If you can handle fake looking cartoony violence, this shouldn't be a problem. There was only one scene that really scared me [SPOILER WARNING] and it was the part where Blind Mag takes out her own eyes o:. I'd say anyone 14+ should be able to handle it.
