R rated?
I'm not quite sure why exactly this movie is rated R. It does have some language, a little violence, a little bit of stuff involving drugs, but it doesn't have that much. Of course, you would need to be somewhat mature to appreciate the movie to it's fullest, but I would say that 16 + is a little more than necessary. The movie itself is a very good movie, with very original plot and great execution.

Bombastic german movie has bad role models.
The movie has three different endings, so all of the scenes listed here are only present one time. (SPOILERS may follow:) You need to know: one of the protagonists is a drug dealer, and his girlfriend does everything to rescue him, she even becomes criminal herself. Her father has an affair, a homeless guy steals. Really: NO ONE in this movie is admirable. There are a few violent scenes: -Lola threatens her father with a gun. -Lola's father gets killed in a car accident. -Manny gets killed in a car accident (little blood). -Lola get shot (little blood) -An extremely brief still shot of a woman with her wrists cut (this is only a still shot and it is very unimportant, so it is not any disturbing.) -You may want to know that there is a still shot of a man and a woman in S&M suites (again, extremely brief and in no context). The language in this movie mostly caused the R-Rating, though i think the translation could be wrong (I have not seen the translated version cause i speak german). Lola says "Scheisse" a lot, but it actually means "s**t" or "cr*p". She never says the german world for "F**k". And "s**t" is a word that is usually allowed at PG-13 movies. I think this movie is PG-13 at MPAA's standards. You have to know your child if it admires movie characters or if it can make a difference between real life and movies. I think it is suitable for viewers 14 and up. The movie is one of my favourite movies ever. The movie is an orgy of style, it features animated sequences, split screens, black/white sequences and a very interesting plot. The music is eurodance, and i love 90s eurodance. You see, it is a german production, a country of which i don't like many movies ("Lola rennt", "Sophie Scholl: die letzten Tage" and "Das Boot" are the only german movies i would give 5 stars), but it is way better then some mainstream hollywood movies. A total recommendation!
