Just how campy can you get with movies before they become stupid and stale? Well, I'd say just about this much. Wright's unbelievably over-the-top fantasy action comedy is sure to entertain teens and even some tweens. Michael Cera is perfect for the role of Scott Pilgrim. The story is funny and clever, the dialogue is witty, and messages are heart-warming, including taking responsibility for your actions. The action scenes are old-fashion, new-pop-retro-era, video-game-like in appearance (if that makes any sense). The action is extremely campy and over-the-top, even more so than the rest of the movie. The fights are fun to watch, even if, at times, they are a little eye-rollingly, rediculously wierd. Parents: The violence is fine, even for children. There's barely any blood (if any), the fights are as campy as the old Batman movies (but a lot more energetic), and when bad guys are defeated, they just explode into coins (yes, you read that right). Although a character is imapled, it's more intense and graphic (a lot more). A character seems to die, but it turns out okay. The only issue here is the language and the sexual references. They aren't horribly explicit, but they are fairly low-brow, although deifnitely not as bad as Cera's other films (Superbad and Youth in Revolt). Bottom Line: This is a very fun movie for fans of video games and Indie films (it also has a quirky/romantic feeling to it), plus most other teens and tweens. I recommend it for anyone looking for a good time. Thanks for reading! - Movie Man
