The Shining is a well-written and very tense horror film. While it is not as gory and brutal as more modern horror films, like "Saw", it is still extremely scary, especially for children. There is language and nudity as well.
The shining is my favorite horror film. But between the naked young woman who turns into a decomposing elderly woman; oral sex performed on a man by a person in a dog costume; ax murders; ample amounts of blood; and the mind twisting plot, my kids will not be seeing this movie until they are driving.
The Shining is brilliant. Terrifying, hilarious, and perfectly made - a masterpiece. However, this is way too scary for kids. Some younger teens can handle it - there's brief violence, full-frontal female nudity, and a truly nervewracking atmosphere that might be too scary for even younger teens. For 13 and 14 year olds it probably depends on how much they can handle, but anyone older than that can definitely watch this movie.
Stanley Kubrick has directed the best horror film I have ever seen because it plays with your mind whether is the hotel hunted or is Jack loosing his mind. I don't recommend this to a person whom likes horror because it is scary. Even do is slow, the film has a lot of scary parts like a river of blood pulling out of an elevator, Jack going mad and killing a man with an ax, dead bodies of two girls. I think the most disturbing scene is when Jack finds a naked woman (you can see her private parts) kisses her, and when he looks at the mirror, he sees a graphic degrading body of an old woman. There is a lot of drinking in this move because the character suffers from alcohol abuse, and we see him loosing his mind due to the effects of alcohol as the film progresses. The film has constant swearing, especially from the Jack Nicholson character when he's about to kill his wife.
Remember this is based on a novel by Stephen King, whom is famous for horror novels and short stories. This is an absolute horror masterpiece, due to the tight direction, story line and jaw-drooping performances, unforgettable quotes, but still strong for young teens due to the character's struggle and there is no redemption at the end of the film. KNOW your kids!
One man is struck with an axe in the chest and blood is included. A naked lady comes out of a shower. There are very frightening scenes and images. This movie contains blood. There is a man addicted to alcohal. They said the f**k about 8 times, n***a three times, and they also said a**, c**k, s**t, godd**n, h**l, b**ch, and t*tties.
this is without a doubt one of the scariest movies ive seen in my life. The Shining isnt exactly horrorific, its just very creepy, throughout the movie there is just a creepy feeling of suspense that makes this movie such a edge of your seat flick; a true masterpeice. However there is one scene of nudity, gets fairly bloody, and has some language. Id say the appropriate age for this film is 14 and up, but beware, i had nightmares from this movie and im a grown man!! XD
One of my all time faves. I saw this when i was 10 but i wasnt scared. If your kid is 11 and doesnt get ever get nightmares just cover their eyes for the nudity.
THE MOVIE HAS TO BE OUTRAGEOUS BECAUSE MY MOTHER WAS SCARED TO WATCH THE MOVIE AND WHEN SHE DID SHE DIDNT WANT TO WATCH THE MOVIE EVER AGAIN AND SHE HAD BAD DREAMS FOR DAYS...
What a great film! it is probably one of the scariest movies i've ever seen though! alot of people find "The Exorcist" the scariest movie ever, but i found it extremely scary, good film to watch with the family! it does contain a few F-words, and one nude woman walking out of a bathtub (her breasts, buttocks, belly button, pubic hair, and vagina are visible during this scene). but other than that scene this film is really really really spooky, and might give your children nightmares!
