I let my 14 and 16 year olds watch it with me and they loved it! Somehow the message was good wrapped inside a thick, boosy, sexy, f--ky, McLoven exterior.
This movie has very positive messages about friendship and respecting women, and it's one of the funniest things I have seen in quite a while. But don't be fooled: This is an R-rated film, and was never intended for children. The swearing is very strong and near-constant (most of it is sexual), characters drink, smoke, and snort cocaine, and sex jokes are explicit and much more than frequent. (There are no actual sex scenes.) However, this is a great movie for ages 15 and up; it's a very entertaining way to learn some valuable lessons about friendship and respect.
The movie is about teenagers buying alcohol to get laid.
However, neither of them end up going through with it. One of them doesn't want to because he's drunk.
The other doesn't get any because the girl he's trying to get with doesn't actually drink.
Good for the older crowd. Not for anyone under 17.
WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!? It was hilarious.. But letting ANYONE 15 watch it? Wow. This world is going to hell quick.. There is entirely too much sex in this for someone that age.. It's no wonder there is so much teenage pregnancy.. Parents dont monitor their kids anymore.
This movie is hilarious for all ages! Even adults, the kids and I both love watching it all the time! it's defenently not SUPERbad, but does contain some sexual situations suchas, looking at pornography (breasts and nipples are visible in this part), oral sex, menstrulation on a leg, sex scenes, a PALOOZA! of detailed drawn penises, condoms and spermicidal lube! and a barrage of F-words! but other than that this film is hilarious!
Powerful film about growing up and teen friendship. NOT for kids
Yes, it's raunchy. So much so that even by the time the touching ending comes along, I feel slightly sick to the stomach. But don't get me wrong, the ending is the saving grace for this film. We are able to understand (if not totally excuse) Seth's constant obsceneity as a way to hide his total lack of self-confidence. But even more so, we can see how painful it can be for two close friends to separate after being "tight" since as long as they can remember, and the feelings of betrayel and regret that comes with it. But the touching last shot, showing Seth and Evan separating in a shopping mall, each with a girl, is an endearing metaphor for the journey everyone must cross into adulthood and independence. And at the end of the day, and for all the movies raunchieness, Superbad remains a touching and deep film about friendship and about growing up. The sexuality is prevalent in the dalogue, but there are a few unfortunate visuals (drawings of penises, brief nudity on a porn magazine, heavy making out, and the beginngs of a sex scene). The language is gratuitous and obnoxious but understandable, as most of it comes from the insecure Seth. So I recommend this film to anyone who's mature enough to weed out the positive content in this film without digesting too much of the obscenity.
