Emotional acting and a Catchy Soundtrack
Sweeney Todd is a fantastic movie. Johnny Depp shows us how versatile he is by taking part in this bloody musical. Even though I am 16, I am very sqeemish, however I found Sweeney Todd to be tolerable. Okay, I admit, I looked away from the bloody scenes maybe once or twice, but putting that aside, I highly reccommend this movie! Beautiful imagery, camera shots and convincing acting. The soundtrack in this film is so catchy, I admit to having these songs stuck in my head for 2 weeks straight! So overall, this is a great film, but has a tad too much throat slitting to be appropriate for a younger audience. I'd stick with 16+

Great film, but not for kids.
This movie is amazing. Johnny Depp and Alan Rickman just sell it for me. If your kid can stomach the gory stuff, like me, take them to see it. (It's gory, and a bit disturbing, but great!)

Great movie, though not as good as the stage versions
This is a great adaptation of the stage play, overall. Depp and all the other actors handle their parts and singing fairly well, though most of them don't hold up to the stage versions available on DVD (Helena Bonham Carter is good in the role of Mrs. Lovett, but Angela Lansbury and Patti LuPone both outdo her). The movie has a lot of intense, though cartoonish, violence, and is fairly depressing; also, only two of the characters are positive role models for anyone.

IT ROCKS
This is in my top 2 johnny depp movie list ( #2) and it is really good movie. It should be PG-13. I usually HATE horror movies but this was AWESOME!!! I watched this when i was 10 and it rocked.

Absolutely Hilarious
It's a movie about a barber that kills his customers and has them made into meat pies. And it's also a musical. What more do you want? The dark humor abounds, with Sondheim's witty lyrics being a highlight. It works more as a movie than a play, (there's no operatic singing here) but it's well worth seeing. It's fine for teenagers. (I saw it when I was thirteen, I thought it was hilarious. My mother, however, thought it was very dark. It may be the individual on this one.)

Best movie EVER
This is my favorite movie. The sound track is great, the charicters are outstanding, and the set and CGI are the best I've EVER seen. The blood looks like orange juice and wet paint mixed together, but the movie is pretty dark. If you think you can handle it, then why are you still reading this and not going to rent it? most amazing movie I've ever seen.

BEST FILM IS LONDON (and anywhere else!)
I am as obsessed with Johnny Depp, Hellana Bonham Carter, and Tim Burton as you can get, but I have to admit, this is one of Burton's more grahic films. If you're a theater nerd like me, and can handle LOTS of blood (which may I mind looks and is EXTREMELY FAKE!) you should see it!

Know what your kid can take before letting them see this.
I love this movie. The first time I saw it, I was twelve. It didn't bother me too much, but it is very dark. My mom can't stand to watch it, and she's a grown woman (but she's also one of those people who is grossed out easily). At first, I was interested in it just because of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, but then I was addicted to the music. Eventually, I got my mom to watch it with me. I've loved it and she's hated it ever since. None the less, she lets me watch it. It's one of those movies that you have to compare to what else you kid watches. If he/she watches Saw and is not disturbed in the slightest (I consider you a bad parent if you let your child watch that crap), then this should be a walk in the park. If he/she is squeemish, though, keep it away. *SPOILERS* There is a ton of blood, and the slitting of the throats is very realistic (the victims jerk around and gurgle and blood spurts everywhere). There's even blood in the opening credits- It rains blood, blood seeps out of baking meat pies, human meat is put through a grinder, blood is everywhere. The last throat that Sweeney slits is particularly bloody (as he also stabs the man in the throat), and he's completely coated in his victim's blood. A little boy takes a bite of a meat pie and pulls a human finger (fingernail and all) from his mouth. A man's brain pops out of his skull when he's dropped head first from the floor above (he's already dead), and you hear several necks snap as others are dropped down to the bakehouse in the same way. The little boy discovers bloody human skeletons in a corner of the bakehouse. A heartless judge sentences a little boy to hang. A young man is beat up with a walking stick (more blood there, as he has a bloody nose), and his attacker threatens to kill him. Young women in a madhouse attack their keeper. Sweeney tosses Mrs. Lovett into an oven and we see her flesh begin to burn from her bones. And in the end, the little boy slits Sweeney's throat and he bleeds on the face of his dead wife, who he is cradling in his arms (yes, I cried). The f-word is not in this film. Where CommonSense got that from, I'll never know. O.o None the less, 'piss' is used several times in one song, and 'sh*t' is used twice. In a dream scene, Mr. Lovett and Sweeney kiss (it's a wedding, and the kiss is very, very short). And a woman is raped at a ball. You don't see anything but the onlookers laughing, and you hear her screaming. There's a lot of gin in this movie. And honestly, it's kind of funny in one scene. Over all, not great for kids. But a fantastic movie all the same. The acting is wonderful, the music is spot-on, and Tim Burton gave it a dark feel that really works with the story. Not quite as good as the stage version, and far less humorus and bright-colored, but I think they captured it well.

EXCELLENT! Too bloody for children under the ages of 13 or 12
This movie was Great! I think even if your kid is below 13, if they feel they can handle rape scenes/gore, go for it, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone under 12 at all! This movie is far too violent, due to the extreme throat slitting/stabing, and the rape scene. To say it's OK for ONLY 16 or up year olds is to far. Great music, great movie.

I attended the tale, and I love it!
This adaptation of my favorite musical, Sweeney Todd, is excellent, but very, very, very bloody. Really, knowing the subject matter, wouldn't you think it would be bloody? There's a very discreet rape that isn't shown, just heavily implied. Also, there are beatings and a few curse words (no f-bombs though, Common Sense!). Johnny Depp was amazing. Helena Bonham Carter was too, but Alan "Severus Snape" Rickman as the lord of England? Just sounds crazy doesn't it? It isn't. Like I said before, there's a lot of killing. Sweeney Todd uses his razors to act revenge on people, and the people think they're getting a good shave. Instead, they get a cut to the throat. Blood always pours through the cuts like water, and it is very strange, macabre, and maybe...sickening if you're squeamish. But it doesn't get very violent until the last 15 minutes. Spoilers ahead. First, Sweeney gives the lord a shave then cuts his throat, but he doesn't just cut the throat. He...(how can I describe this?)...maims the lord. Then, Sweeney goes down to the pie factory downstairs and discovers that Ms. Lovett has killed Sweeney Todd's wife. After he discovers this, Sweeney is horrified and pushes Ms. Lovett into the fireplace. We see the flames burn Ms. Lovett and it's very gruesome even by Tim Burton's standards. After said scene, the kid Toby comes out of the manhole near the burner and kills Sweeney with his razor, stabbing him repeatedly. But still, even with the blood and gore, Sweeney Todd is a faithful adaptation of the musical. Finally, Sondheim and Tim Burton together at last. I recommend this film to anyone 13 and up who isn't squeamish or easily scared. If you are, then Sweeney Todd is NOT for you. But if you're a Tim Burton freak or a Broadway buff who doesn't scream at the sight of blood gushing out of slit throats, then Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is definitely a good film for you.

Sweeney Todd
This is my favorite movie. Apart from all the blood, there's nothing in appropriate in it. "Sh*t" is said twice but I don't believe that to be that big of a deal. I watched this movie at age 12 and wasn't scared/disturbed by it at all. However, it's not for people scared or squeamish of blood or violence. I watched it with my friend who is terrified of blood and can't even here that word. She was pretty freaked out.

Great movie for mature pre-teens/teens!
This movie does have a a lot of violence. Men's throats are slit, a young boy is kicked and (offscreen) whipped by his master, someone throws a young adult to the ground a hits him with a cane, he gets a bloody nose, humans are ground and baked into pies, a stack of bones are found on the ground, a man is attacked by women in an asylum, and someone is raped (it is offscreen, all you hear is hear screams). I personally think the blood looks fake, but it you are a queasy person this might not be the best. Make sure your child is mature enough to see this film, it is very dark and sad. There are only a couple of times the s word is said and the p word is said also a couple of times as well. Onto the review part, I absolutely adore this movie. The acting by everyone is amazing! Johnny Depp is perfect for the part of Sweeney and Helena Bonham Carter is great for Mrs. Lovett. the songs in this movie are AMAZING!!! I love every one of them. I am even asking for the soundtrack for my birthday. Everything goes really well in this film, the costumes, the set, the characters. Also, what I like about the songs is it is basically dialogue but in a song form. they don't just break out into random songs, it flows from speech to songs really well. I not only watched this movie once the other night but I watched it again the next afternoon, I loved it that much. I totally recommend this movie!

Have you come in for a pie dear?
Slasher films can't compare with the dark, tragic complexity of this modern masterpiece. While there is lots of blood, it looks very fake, but in an artistic, not cheesy way.The only scene I found hard to handle was SPOILERS the death of Mrs Lovett, but that was becauser I can't watch anyone burn in a horror movie, least of all my favourite actress , who I might add, is on top emotional form. With a winning soundtrack, complex story, brilliant cast and amazing cinematography, this is how to do a stylish horror.

Tim Burton's darkest movie
Sweeney Todd is probably Tim Burton's darkest movie. It had great songs, great story and great acting. Defiantly not for younger kids, but mature teens can probably handle this.
