Beautifully constructed, thoughtful and satisfying

Their Finest is one of the best movies I have seen in a long time - I totally agree with the official Commonsense review. It is a classic British movie - brilliantly acted by a wonderful cast. There is a gentle humour that permeates much of the movie. It is very well crafted - the backdrop of the war, and particularly the horrors of the Blitz in London, are always hovering, but disconcertingly understated as the characters continue to live normal lives on a superficial level (cup of tea?). Gender issues and the effect of the war on women's roles in society were well conveyed. The lead female character was strong and well-developed, but some of the relationships, and one sex scene in particular, make this unsuitable for younger viewers. The relationships in the movie were captivating, and the overall effect was of a gentle, thought-provoking and ultimately uplifting movie.
