Why We Rated This iffy for Ages 11–13

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

Good mutants encourage difference and individuality, bad mutants try to kill those who don't agree with them.
  • Violence:

Comic-booky explosions, stabbings, shootouts, and fist/kick fights; brief scene of self-mutilation and upset as young boy tries to remove his "mutant" wings; Mystique assaults her police interrogators; police/military use guns with cure-carrying darts; characters explode into bits (including paternal Professor X, which might worry young viewers who are fond of him); Magneto breaks up the Golden Gate Bridge.; showdown at film's end includes fire, walls collapsing, electrocution; Jean sucks Wolverine's skin off him in patches; up-close stabbing.
  • Sex:

Passionate kissing; one becomes an all-body (legs included) embrace; Rogue is visibly jealous of boyfriend's flirtation with another girl. One mutant uses her powers to undo a man's pants. Mystique is more or less naked (in a non-sexual way) at all times, though she's usually covered in blue, scaly skin. One scene shows her naked without that covering, but the crucial bits are covered.
  • Language:

Fairly mild: "bitch," "hell," "ass," "dick," etc.
  • Consumerism:

    Not an issue.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Wolverine smokes a cigar.

What Parents Need to Know

About X-Men: The Last Stand

Parents need to know that this film includes comic-bookish violence: characters are repeatedly stabbed, shot, smashed, and variously injured (bloody gashes on faces or bodies, some -- on Wolverine -- healing themselves immediately), thrown against or through walls, exploded, burned, and frozen. Vehicles and buildings explode with fiery booms, the Golden Gate Bridge is lifted and crashed into Alcatraz Island, with violent shaking of humans driving on it. Human military units shoot weapons loaded with cure-bearing darts. In a flashback, a young boy tries to cut his wings off, causing bloody wounds. A passionate kiss leads to one character's death (off-screen), another passionate embrace leads to a violent clash. Mystique's blue suit looks painted on.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about the theme of friendship and group unity, as well as the celebration of difference: The X-Men look after one another even when they are accused of being afflicted with a "disease" and offered a "cure." How do the X-Men challenge conformity and encourage creativity, even as they learn discipline and good manners at school? How do the several generations of X-Men come together to form an alternative, supportive family?

    PRETTY GOOD!

It was definitely not as good as the other two movies. There was a bit of violence, and a few main characters die, but it was a really good movie!!! KIND OF funny also. And the directors added a few REALLY COOL characters! I would give this movie an A++!!

    worst Xmen

This is the worst X-Men yet. Although it does have a good ending fight, it still lacks something.

    Boo!!!

this movie sucks. Bryan Singer should have directed the third x men. this movie makes no sense. first, there is that mutant that can tell who is a mutant just by looking at people. then what is the point of that room that Professor Charles has. second is the porkypine chick. what is her purpose in the role of this movie, to kill that girl. third, the guy that has wings was awesome but he doesnt have a purpose neither. fourth and finally, phoenix is a powerful muntant, strong then any mutant ever. what was the point of waiting until everybody is dead and then using all your power to try to kill one person(which is wolverine). why dont you just kill everyone thats is there and get it over with. this movie was a waste of my time!

    Third times the charm!

This film is the best. Jean's actor is much better evil, and I love the phoenix.

Like the third Spider-Man movie, something just doesn't click in this one...

Something didn't click in this movie, but thankfully it still had it's moments of epic triumph. Sadly, "moments" don't make a movie. This movie was lacking on plot, but not on excitement. This fact will cause it to apeal greatly to the teen/preteen crowd, but for anyone looking for a great plot amidst the cool action, they aught to look elsewhere. Like the other X-Men, I think that this is best reserved for twelve year olds and older.

    Very Dark

This X-Men was completely disconnected from its predecessors. Very dark and depressing film. Violence was very violent, and deaths were graphic. This one moved away from fantasy violence and was simply disturbing. After really enjoying the 1st two films, I was very disappointed with this one. Ending leaves little to no hope.

I wasted two hours of my life on this?

The first two movies in this series were much better. This movie was much weaker. I felt like I was being fed a bunch of special effects along with a dose of in-your-face sexuality. To me, that's not a movie. It's offense.

    O.K. Action Movie

X3 is a good action movie for teens. It has teen issues, lots of action, and blowing stuff up. I do not recommend seeing this right after the third Matrix, though. The costumes and special effects after that seem lackluster, and a bit laughable. The two effects I really liked though were when colossus transforms, and when it looks like Jean's hair looks like it is on fire.

Great ! but not for little kids

I thought I might be able to let my 8yo watch this but the violence is intense at times and the "make out" scene with Wolverine and Jean is a bit to graphic with the crotch grinding. Then she unbuttons his pants with her powers. Overall though,a great movie and I hope to watch it with my daughter when she is older. Stan Lee makes sure that It really captures the Marvel Comic style.

This movie was fairly good. No wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It was TOTALLY AWEASOME! The violence was great, the charaters stay true and the sex was brief. It was B-E-A-Utiful.

    ...

The last movie to come out leaves alot of room for a 4th movie. 2 of the main people get killed off. Make sure to watch after the credits for an extra seen (sp.). There may be a 4th movie and there WILL be a wolveriene spinoff movie comeing out fall 2008.

    The Weakest of the Series.

X3 is by far the worst out of the three X-Men films, but it still isn't terrible. There's plenty of explosive action and special effects, overall X3 is a pretty entertaining film. But compared to X2 this film is rather weak--it fails to find the balance of action and character development that X2 did, and as a result it is action-packed but rather empty and forgettable. Plus it was annoying how many characters were killed off, only to be replaced by irritating mutants you honestly don't care about.
