What Parents Need to Know
This review of Baptism was written by Kathi Kamen Goldmark
Parents need to know that Lenny Kravitz wrote, arranged, and performed every track on this CD. Admirable, yes, but perhaps not a good idea since the result sounds oddly sterile.

What’s the Story?
Lenny Kravitz has done some brilliant work in the course of his long and varied career as a songwriter, producer, arranger, and performer. On BAPTISM, however, he sounds ponderous and tired. "What Did I Do With My Life?" sings Kravitz. "Did I exercise giving and forgiveness with all my might?" A lovely sentiment, but the song quickly tips over into overwrought cliché that ruins the message. And when you consider that every single track on Baptism was written, arranged, performed, and produced by Kravitz himself, you won't be surprised to find out that while the songs vary in tempo and mood, there is no variation when it comes to musical voice.
