What's the story?
Reviewed by Kathi Kamen Goldmark
She's young, she's gorgeous, she has a terrific voice. And instead of hitting us over the head with baby-diva techno-pop "originals," Mandy Moore has chosen an eclectic collection of rock and pop chestnuts on COVERAGE. This sets her apart, in a really nice way, from the pack. Try to find the version of Coverage that comes with the DVD. You'll see a charming young woman talk about the reasons she chose the songs on the CD (originally by performers as diverse as John Hiatt, Todd Rundgren, Carole King, and Joni Mitchell), and the challenges of performing songs by her musical heroes.
Is it any good?
If the production values make the whole effort sound a little bit like Saturday night at the karaoke bar, so what? Mandy Moore's choice of songs is interesting, her delivery is charming, and her intentions are good. You and your kids could do a whole lot worse.
