Why We Rated This on for Ages 9 and Up

The good stuff

  • Messages:

There's an obvious recurring theme about being yourself and having a positive self-image. Lyrics include lines like "And I know that I'm OK, cause everyone's perfect in an unusual way ... the mirror can lie, it doesn't show you what's inside" and "I'm not a supermodel, I still eat McDonald's, baby that's just me ... I'm not gonna change."

What to watch out for

  • Violence:

Nothing alarming, but "Get Back" says "I wanna talk back and get yelled at, fight for nothing, like we used to."
  • Sex:

One song, "Get Back," has the line "kiss me, like you mean it, like you miss me."
  • Language:

    Not an issue.
  • Consumerism:

    McDonald's, Converse.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About Don't Forget

Parents need to know that this is the first album from rising Disney Channel star Demi Lovato, best known for playing Mitchie in Camp Rock and making YouTube videos extraordinaire with fellow Disney darling Selena Gomez. Lovato and her music have a bit more edgy than standard Disney fare, but the subject matter is age-appropriate for most tweens -- expect lots of talk about young love and relationships and staying true to yourself while having a positive self-image.

First Disney Singer I've Taken A Liking To

I do not love the album, but Demi Lovato is the first Disney singer I've ever taken a liking to. She has a very big voice, and her songs talk about things we all can relate to like body image and how we should all just be ourselves. 4/5 stars from me.
