Common Sense Note
Parents need to know that this dance single talks about sex in abstract ways that will probably go over the heads of most kids, but does get a little heavy at times. The "N" word is said once in passing, but you can barely make it out. There is one line equating Jackson's swagger with the intensity of a woman's menstrual period's first day. The song's accompanying futuristic music video is clean and fine for all ages.
Families can talk about the music video for "Feedback." The song could lend itself to a very sexy video. Why did Janet choose to cover up entirely in the video? Does it help or hurt the song?
Common Sense Review
Reviewed By: Heidi Kotansky
Janet Jackson's first single off her upcoming album is a sexual dance track that is sly enough to bury the explicit content beneath its pulsating beat and infectious repetitive lyrics.
FEEDBACK could sound like any old Britney song, but Janet Jackson can sing -- even though her vocals get a bit lost behind the rabidly popular trend of using software to alter vocal pitch and sound. She's made a single that is catchy, fun, void of raunchy lyrics, and most of all, really easy to listen to. Let's just hope that all of her songs off her new album don't sound like what everyone else is doing in pop these days.

Sexual ContentThe song is about sex but the clever play on words covers up most explicit references nicely: "Strum me like a guitar blow out my amplifier/When you hear some feedback keep going take it higher/Crank it up give it to me come on/Crank it up give it to me come on/I'm gonna feedback" and "You like it how I work my spine/Got you feeling all hypnotized." |
