Parents need to know
Parents need to know that the new Jump5 CD is squeaky clean, with some unambiguously Christian-themed songs and lyrics. Kids of all faiths may be asking for this CD after hearing it in heavy rotation on Radio Disney.
Families can talk about Christian music. Is it accessible to non-religious people or people of other faiths? Do you think that Jump5's music speaks to everyone, or only to kids in Christian families? Great gospel music can be powerful, inspirational, and uplifting. Do you think Jump5 falls into this category?

Take four cute, talented young singers, and add synthesizer overkill and overdo the EQ. Then find some vaguely (or not so vaguely) Christian-themed songs, get a ton of airplay on Radio Disney, and you've got Jump5 -- but not for much longer. Fans will be disheartened to hear that this is the group's last CD, as Brittany, Brandon, Lesley, and Chris have announced that it's time to move on to other projects. Let's wish these nice kids the best of luck, and let's hope that they're lucky enough to find some better-written material. Meanwhile, a high point of HELLO & GOODBYE is an exquisite a capella version of "The Star Spangled Banner," featuring gorgeous harmonies and (perhaps not a coincidence) the absence of synthesizers.
Is it any good?
The new Jump5 CD is squeaky clean, with some unambiguously Christian-themed songs and lyrics ("Oh Jesus, I surrender…at His feet I bow"). The tunes tend toward being mediocre with drippy arrangements. Perhaps it really is time for these spunky kids to move on to projects that make better use of their talents.
