Common Sense Note
Parents need to know that this single is about predatory sex with a partner who can't be trusted enough not to be warned to keep videos of a tryst off YouTube. Although there are no four-letter words, the intention is crystal-clear and specific. The music video is all about Mariah's large chest and long legs, and shows her in revealing outfits.
Families can talk about pop stars changing their images. Why do they try to push the envelope with new releases when their past innocent albums were mega hits? Are they really "maturing" or do they just want to try something new? Families can also discuss getting to know someone before jumping into bed. If you really trusted your lover, you probably wouldn't have to threaten him or her to keep romantic details behind closed doors. Have you ever been embarrassed because someone shared information or photographs you thought were private?
Common Sense Review
Reviewed By: Kathi Kamen Goldmark
Mariah Carey wants you to touch her body, but if you dare tell anyone -- or take secret photos and post them on YouTube or anything like that -- she'll hunt you down and make you really, really sorry. That's the gist of "Touch My Body," her new, very monotonous single, accompanied by provocative photos that (we presume) the artist has posted on YouTube and elsewhere herself.
With repetitive lyrics over lackluster synthesized tracks, Mariah's considerable vocal chops take a backseat. It will be interesting (but maybe not that interesting) to hear the rest of her forthcoming CD, E=MC2, which is due out in April (check back soon for our review).
For a better pop-dvia fix, check out Beyonce or Christina Aguilera.

Sexual ContentA lot of heavy breathing around lyrics that urge the listener to "Let me wrap my thighs all around your waist/just a little taste...c'mon and give me what I deserve." The video shows Mariah in breast-baring, short outfits. |
