What parents need to know

Parents need to know that this album, and Chris Daughtry himself, are about as clean as they come: though the singer can clearly feel conflicted at times, he refrains from indulging in explicit language, drug use, or other mature behaviors to drown his occasional sorrows.

  • While this CD has a slightly stronger focus on relationship problems rather than upsides, it paints an overall honest portrait of what being in a real relationship is all about.
  • Chris Daughtry and his bandmates are great role models -- they're giant stars who've achieved success without the sex, drugs, and explicit language that characterize so much of today's music.

What's the story?

Former American Idol contestant Chris Daughtry's new record, LEAVE THIS TOWN, finds his band exploring the ups and downs of romantic relationships -- a theme that fits with the group’s rise from regular married guys (all but the drummer have wives) to huge stars trying to reconcile their relationships with new-found fame. Though most of the lyrics focus on the problems this brings, which makes the CD seem somewhat of a downer overall, none of the songs contain the explicit language or graphic descriptions that often accompany accounts of relationship woes. For example: “Complicated situations are the makings of all that’s wrong / And I’ve been standing in the river of deliverance for way too long / There’s gotta be a better way to say what’s in my heart without leaving scars.”

Is it any good?

Chris Daughtry’s ticket to fame was his mass appeal, so it’s no surprise that his music, while hard-driving, sticks with the radio-friendly, power-rock formula. That said, this record shows a few more glimmers of originality than the first, such as the country-inspired track “Tennessee Line” and the cool “woo-hoos” backing the song “Supernatural.” Of course, Daughtry’s laser-clear voice remains the band’s best asset.

For teens and adults alike
Leave This Town is a great album for teens and adults. There is no foul language, sexual innuendo, reference to drugs, alcohol, or smoking, or other negative issues. It does talk about the downsides of relationships though but it isn't too heavy or depressing and will go over younger kid's heads. "You Don't Belong", "Ghost of Me", and "Call Your Name" are my favorites.

Cute CD without faults.
This CD shows what an honest relationship is and I adore that. But, the reason that it is for 10+ in my opinion is because that this can go over MANY young heads.

Perfect for tweens and teenagers
‘Leave This Town’ is the second album from ex-American Idol, Chris Daughtry. It carries on the legacy of quality, talent and rocking that his first album created. All of the songs are incredible, though I prefer the more up-beat songs (such as ‘What I Meant To Say’, ‘You Don’t Belong’ and ‘Ghost Of Me’). All of the songs have very simple beats, which are great for young wannabe rockers like myself who are interested in learning the songs and still get your foot tapping. My only concern with this album is that it focuses a little bit more on the downs of love rather than the ups and may be a bit mature for kids under the age of eleven. However, if you are older than that, you will love it! Overall, ‘Leave This Town’ is a brilliant Hard Rock album, appropriate for kids aged 11 +. - Everything is permissible, but not everything is beneficial.
