What We Love: Books That Boost Kids' Self Esteem

Most kids aren't made of Teflon, so you've probably heard yours utter put-downs like "I'm not as smart as so-and-so." Where do they get this stuff?

You can really boost your kids' self-esteem simply by setting aside some together time. And what better way to spend those moments than by sharing a book with positive messages about ways that kids can feel proud of themselves?

The best self-esteem books aren't a quick-fix -- kids will see right through that. Rather, these titles encourage kids to value themselves for who they are -- which is a skill they can use the rest of their lives.

This is ridiculous. Self-esteem is not something that comes from reading books, and its not something that should be focused on anyway. Self-centered narcissists have great self esteem but who want's their child to be that. What builds self value is to have something to value, a skill, a hobby, something to focus on besides oneself. For the record "I am not as smart as so and so" is very well likely "gotten" from not being as smart as someone else. Being humble and realistic is not something to fight.
