Brainy medical drama has moving moments.

Why We Rated This iffy for Ages 15–18

The good stuff

  • Messages:

The main characters are generally good people, though one is sometimes rude and insensitive and a heavy flirt. A secondary character is deceitful for his own gain. Secondary characters are racially diverse, and two doctors are women. People with disabilities are regularly shown in a positive light.

What to watch out for

  • Violence:

Angry verbal encounters between doctors and patients; some blood in the operating room (but not as much as some other medical shows).
  • Sex:

Heavy flirting; sexual innuendo; mention of affairs, some sexual activity.
  • Language:

Occasional crude language, like "ass" and "hell."
  • Consumerism:

    Not an issue.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Discussion of drinking.

What Parents Need to Know

About 3 Lbs.

Parents need to know that this mature medical drama deals with intense subjects like grave illness and death. Adult relationships, including allusions to casual sex, are a part of the subplot. Characters sometimes yell at one another or debate fiercely about controversial subjects, like the rights of fetuses. Some adult language is used.
