Why We Rated This on for Ages 7 and Up

What to watch out for

  • Messages:

An adult trainer often mocks teens when their efforts miss the mark, saying things like, "My grandmother can push a wheelchair faster than that!" Some contestants obviously bend the rules to make the tasks easier for themselves, and while the other teens are frustrated by this, the judges usually laugh it off. Some mild trash talking about other contestants comes up in one-on-one confessionals.
  • Violence & scariness:

Some of the challenges are potentially dangerous, but the contestants always use appropriate safety gear.
  • Sexy stuff:

    Not an issue.
  • Language:

No cursing, but teens do make comments like "that sucks."
  • Consumerism:

    Not an issue.
  • Drinking, drugs, & smoking:

    Not an issue.

What Parents Need to Know

About The Adrenaline Project

Parents need to know that this reality series -- which follows teen contestants as they compete in a series of extreme sports challenges -- doesn't model the most sportsmanlike behavior. Contestants occasionally stretch the rules to rack up points the easy way: For example, in a challenge in which teens are suspended amid a group of mailboxes and told to swing among them, stuffing letters into their slots, one girl disregards the instructions, uprooting one of the boxes and carrying it with her as she swings. The host usually shrugs these transgressions off, saying that they weren't explicitly forbidden. One of the adults also mocks the contestants when he thinks they're not doing well, making frequent comments like "You tried, but not hard enough." Though these comments are meant to be funny, it's clear that some contestants aren't amused.

Families Can Talk About

  • Families can talk about whether it's OK to bend the rules to get something you want. Do you think the kids who take advantage of the game's "flexible" rules are cheating? Why or why not? Families can also discuss adventure and extreme sports. Kids: Would you be interested in trying some of the challenges you see on this show? Which ones? Are there any you definitely wouldn't do? Why not? Do you think the contestants are ever scared by the challenges they face? How do you think they overcome their fear? When have you overcome fear to do something scary? How did you feel when you were done?

    I dunno 'bout this show....

This show was kinda stupid. It is only for like half-an-hour and it is like a remake of survivor except in kid format. I found it so boring. Survivor is a WAY better show!

    Ignore Stupid Reviews

You should ignore stupid reviews. That's right--what has been said about this show is VERY untrue. This is a great show, that promotes good sportsmanship and co-operation. Even when two people are competing against eachother, the bonds that they clearly created in real life are evident on camera through their actions and support for eachother. Any show where competetors cheer for eachother is CLEARLY an appropriate show. This show is great for older children, so you should ignore all the warnings that have been said. All in all, you should watch this show--there's creative thinking, fun and interesting physical activities, and a large amount of good sportsmanship.
