Really well done animation & good plot & character development, set in a very imaginative fantasy world. There is violence in almost every episode, undercut somewhat by the fact that characters don't hit each other with fists or weapons, but instead "bend" elements, e.g. stop an opponent by freezing them in place with water. A positive message in good hearted characters who strive to do their best and to learn.

great action packed show.
this show is a great action packed show for both boys and girls. but parens dont be fooled just because it's animated avatar is to vilont and way to scary for young kids. there's lots of fighting, wars, and peril and sometimes carecters are killed or serously wounded. also there is some flirting and kissing that goes on between a few different carecters 1 of them is only 12 but the rest are atleast 13. i say this show is OFF for ages 1-7 IFFY for 8 and ON for 9.

I don't understand what's so great about this show. I've seen many episodes and it dosen't have anything to interesting in it. The only reason that i can see someone watching this is that they're kids are too young to be watching some more violent shows. Another thing i don't like about it i personally just think the main chracter is annoying pretty much all around. Skip It!

Great for ages 7 - 11
Love this cartoon! Which it was not aired in reruns only - great lessons, role models - only wished the characters had parents they had contact with on a regular basis or at all. The story is easy to relate to in young kids as well as the tweens- great graphics...it's a win win

Not just a cartoon....not just a nicktoon....it is a brilliant story
After watching Avatar: The last Airbender religiously since 2005, I say with full confidence that this show went beyond its expectations. Writers Michael Dante Dimartino and Bryon Konietzko stumbled on possibly one of the most visionary characters in fantasy history. Every character from Aang and the gang all the way to the Lion turtle leave an impact whether good or bad. Not only is it a brilliant story but the lessons it teaches are extraoridnary. It is recommended to all. 5 stars

Wonderful for the whole family to watch together!
I began watching Avatar with my son when he was 7 (two years ago) and the whole family is now hooked including my now 7 year old daughter who loves to pretend to bend. The characters are wonderfully complex and the conflicts they face led to wonderful discussions with my son as the show really supports values that I want to instill in my children including creativity, resourcefulness, forgiveness, respect, independence and compassion. It is intelligent and treats its audience with respectin maintaing high quality in every episode. I really believe it is the best show on TV in any category!

Avatar: The Last Air Bender ROCKS!!
I remember the first night I watched Avatar with my kids. One Friday night, we were expecting a new Spongebob episode instead the premiere of Avatar was on. I had seen the previews and honestly it didn't peak my interest. But after watching the first two episodes that night I was hooked. In my opinion, Avatar is one of the best shows on TV, live action or animation!!! I have hooked so many people on to this show. My kids, wife and I never miss an episode.

Great family show
My husband and I enjoy the shows as much as our two boys, 6 and 8. The story and character develop are well above average for a children's show. There are many "teaching" moments in each episode. The adults characters are respected and there are consequences for negative behaviors by the younger characters. Overall the brightest spot in the Nick line up.

Much more than cartoon chop-socky!
I'm 39 and I have watch Avatar with my son... we love this show! Not only are the fight scenes well-choreographed (they use real-life actors to model their moves), but there's a lot of depth to the story. Avatar explores devotion to friends and family, doing what's right instead of what's expected by those around you, and the use, misuse and responsibilities of power. The most interesting journey is perhaps not that of Ang, the Avatar, but of his enemy, Prince Zuko of the Fire Nation. It's good entertainment, promotes healthy and meaningful attitudes in complicated situations where the right thing to do is not obvious.

My 7 year old loves this show, and I am very impressed by it. It is a smartly written, complex narrative with lots of interesting characters, both people and creatures. I like the epic quality of the show, and the intelligent way it handle conflicts, both interpersonal and intertribal. I think it would be easy to underestimate this show if you're not a fan of Japanese anime, but I recommend giving it a chance. It's a show that demands a lot of its viewers in terms of understanding the show's eastern-based mythology. It doesn't talk down to kids, or treat kids as a superior species to adults, which is refreshing.

I'm completely into it
My 7 year old nephew loves Avatar...and so do I. He doesn't see the martial arts connection yet -- although they teach him basic Aikido in his school -- but I think the fact that all of the fights are based on various martial arts is laying a good base. The characters are interesting and well-voiced and the animation is really excellent. Also notice that when there are fights, and there are fights at least once per episode, the combatants almost never actually touch each other; they fight using their bending powers. My nephew has picked this up and instead of wanting to fight after seeing an episode, he wants to "bend" using things like pillows of various colors. This is a good thing, no?

One of the Best Shows on TV for Adults or Children
Excellent show that depicts children that act like real children who argue, make mistakes, and sometimes need turn to wise adults for guidance and advice. Deep epic themes and plots that an adult can appreciate but a child can also enjoy. Some themes based on Eastern philosophy but through a distinctly American lens. Better than almost any other science fiction or fantasy show on TV today, even for adults.

Trememndous epic storyline. Humorous. Excellent themes.
As a parent who refuses to let my children watch the likes of Pokemon and DragonballZ, I was weary of Avatar during the promo period. After watching it with my boys, it was obvious that this is an intelligent and interesting program. It reminds me of the epic "Star Blazers" I watched as a child. I have no reservations at all in letting my 5 and 7 year old watch it. Tremendous themes on right and wrong, without throwing it in your face. The show respects the often overlooked ability of a child's ability to grasp subtlety. Very good animation. Very good sound. I am impressed on how it looks our HD widescreen and the audio system.

This is the good stuff!
Its amazing, the Nick! network has one of the best shows on american television right now. I'm eighteen and this has got to be one of the best shows I've ever watched. Granted the first season is targeted mostly at young kids, and I disrarged it and thought it nothing more than a passing fad at first glance, but once the second season made air the show became apealing, the characters began to have backstory, and depth, and I actually went back and shelled out $52.00 for the season one box set. This is a great show for families, and my fifty year old mom has even gotten into it. The show does deal with issues like fighting, violence, and war but it also at the same time instills great value and moral lessons. I could go on and on about this show but I'll end it here on the note... This is one of the best shows for families on air today, and is very well drawn, and colorful. Parents, and young adults can enjoy the beautiful artwork, story, and sly remarks between characters as they sit down and watch it with the kids who will love the crazy antics, and mild slapstick comedy. This is far more suitible for the future of America than vile programs like Mr. Meatly, Bratz, etc...

One of Nick's Best Works
Avatar:the Last Airbender is my favorite show I have ever seen so far. The plot is great, with details that would make you laugh, cry, or leave you on the edge of your seat begging more. Although, I do not think this show is for younger kids. It does have violence and some romance. Also, some ideas, like the relationship between the 12 year old star of the show and the 14 year old Katara, could be misleading to some younger children. But throughout all, this show provides comedy, education about the martial arts used, like Ti chi, Baguazhang, and kung-fu, It also shows about life itself, and many lessons to be learned. It is indeed a great family show for older kids ~8 and adults too.

Jolly Good Show
Incredible show. People don't give it a chance because it's a Nicktoon, but if they did, they'd love it. Some violence, some parts could be scary for younger children, the characters don't always make the right choice, and there is some almost-sex at the end, but it's otherwise great. Fantastic message.

One of the few good shows on Nickelodeon~
Another great show on Nickelodeon that even older teens like. It may have had humor that wouldn't be offensive to younger viewers, but it was still funny. It had a great plot, great characters, and some great action scenes. The comedy didn't interfere with the action either. I don't remember any blood, but a few characters died. There wasn't any language and no sex; there was romance, but it was very clean and healthy. Great show for kids and teens.

Can't wait till the movie!
It was great and I can't wait for the movie! However, the pairings/couples were a bit confusing and hard to understand. Frustrating. Violence is mild, just scars basically.

Spectacular!
Avatar:the Last Airbender is one of my favorite shows and cartoons and Nicktoons. It is awsome Sozins Comet was the best part but now since it ended i think that it should continue still. It is just that spectular and the story line should be where the nations are at piece and stuff and something go Avatar! and go NICKELODEON!

Pretty Good
Ive seen better but this show is ok. Its pretty interesting and the romance is also pretty interesting. The only strange thing is that Aang is only 12 years old and he is(or at least wants to be) involved with a 14 year old girl, Katara who is better suited with a guy like Zuko. Speaking of Zuko, characters like him are a bit of a bad example, they are aggressive and kinda mean. I don't think very little kids can even follow the plot very well. I think this show is best with tweens and it is poular with early teens.

AWESOME
If you haven't seen it, go watch it!! It is an awesome, moving, touching series. It demonstrates friendship, compassion, and love. A simple plot of good vs. evil turned extremely complex, exciting, and invigorating.

I'm young, but I've been studying film for years now...
...and this show is probably the most excellently crafted cartoon out there. *THE SHOW WAS NOT CACNELLED* Its fanbase is quite massive, it wouldn't be cancelled. The storyline is coming to an end, and it would be stupid on the creator's end to keep going. It is a well-spun tale of war, relationships, struggles, and quirky humor. A lot of the series is filler, but with each episode comes an enjoyable and exciting experience. I really hope M. Night Shyamalan can do the series justice in his live-action film. I haven't been that impressed with his past work, but he did say Avatar is something that he truly cares about, and I trust him.

A great show but...
This is a great TV show, however there are some issues in later episodes. Sexual Content: In the 3rd season there's a lot of kissing and one episode (called The Beach) features most characters in bathing suits. Zuko gets a girlfriend. Violence: Minimal, no bloodshed or anything. Drugs: None. Commercialism: None. Social Behavor: Zuko's father banishes him from his home country, Azula and Zuko fight (even though they're siblings), Azula is also mean to her friends, Zuko betrays his uncle (and Aang and Katara, to an extent) in the 2nd season and Katara is rather mean when he tries to join their group in season 3. Overall, though, the show teaches kids about friendship and forgiveness, which almost all of the characters value or have.
