This was a great series. I've started watching it with my 13 year old. There's lots to like in a series with strong female characters and choosing between popularity and doing the right thing. The series does get more serious and darker in later seasons, especially 6 and 7. While Buffy does lose her virginity to her vampire boyfriend while she's still in high school, one couldn't ask for a more disastrous outcome. So those episodes are not about consequence free sexual activity.

One of the Best Shows on Television, Ever!
One of my all-time favorite TV series of all time. This show was incredibly well-written with amazing humor and wonderful characters you really cared about. My wife and I were fans from day one, and bought the complete DVD set along with Angel. I just started watching this with my mature 12 year old daughter, and she's loving it as much as I did. I rated this show 13+, but 11-12 is ok depending on the child's maturity level. Overall Buffy is a strong female role-model, who makes mistakes but always ends up doing the right thing. Friendship, love courage, etc. This show has it all.

Please keep in mind the aging of the series
Although the consensus is that Buffy is a "13 and up" series it is important to note that there are some episodes -- especially in season 6 -- that are really intended for more mature audiences. Some of the Buffy and Angel scenes in earlier seasons were pretty racy as well. What began as an appropriate series for 13 and 14 year olds grew older, darker and more daring, and it is easy to forget in this DVD age -- when you can watch an entire season in a week -- that there was an anticipation that viewers would grow up with the series, so that by the time Season 6 came around the average viewer would be closer to 19 or 20, which is the age that some of those episodes are more appropriate for. Even so, Buffy is one of the best series in TV history, if not the best.

My Stories Are On!
Buffy has always been my very favorite show! The dialogue is witty, the characters are endearing, and Joss never pulls any punches. Buffy is cathartic, my soul always feels cleaner having watched it.

Who might I have been...
...If I had grown up watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer instead of Happy Days? One can only imagine. I'm a 40-year-old woman who loves this show for three reasons: 1) Buffy is a strong, complex female character; 2) I always felt respected as a viewer; and 3) The writing was consistently among the best on TV. I plan to watch it with my niece and nephew when they get a bit older.

Okay for tweens but there are some sexual moments
I love buffy and was really sad when they ended her show. I think that some of the demons can get pretty scary looking or just plain gross. But in the end Buffy is a good role model.

Perfect Show Please watch.
This is a wonderful show. It is the perfect mix of witty humor and very dark danger. Despite the title which suggests a silly horror show it tackles some tough topics such as death and a greater meaning in life. Season one is the lightest season and has a lot of humor it would be ok for kids as young as ten. Seasons two and tree are slightly darker but still keep the humor and are in my opinion the best seasons. Season four is when buffy goes to college it is actually less dark than seasons two and three it is probably my least favorite season except for the one amazing episode hush. Season five is very dark and two main character die(no spoilers). season six is also very dark when a main character turns evil after another main character dies. The musical episode "Once More With Feeling" is one of the best episodes of tv from any show. Season seven is dark also but the ending to the show is pretty amazing. I highly recommend this show to anyone who knows good writing and acting. Its age appropriate for ages 13 and up or a very mature 11 or 12 year old. Please do not judge this show by its title its is very good and sometimes serious show.

Perfect for +14
This show is really one of the best ever made ! Season 1, is probably the only season where their isnt love issues or sex but season 2 onwards has some love issues. Season 6 is probably the worst so I recommend that people under the age of 14 or 15 dont view those episodes Joss Whedon is very smart for coming up with a series like this :)

Buffy is my favorite TV show. I love it! Joss Wheadon is a genius! Great acting, Awesome writing, excellent plot. Excellent everything! Some moments in Buffy can get VERY violent and scary. Such as the episode with the gentlemen. Other episodes can be emotionally intense. In the sixth season the sexual encounters can get pretty iffy. But overall aren't all that inappropriate. There are great messages about love and family and friendship as well as characters with good hearts. Buffy is a great show for maturer teens.

This is one of my favorite shows of all time. There is a bit of sex like well... sex, but this a somewhat more mild version of the X Files so i will give it a five star rating

Great, but not for young children
I first started watching Buffy when I was 10, and I finished the series for the first time when I was 11. Four years later, my taste in shows has almost completely changed, but one thing has not: Buffy is still my all-time favorite series. Everyone will enjoy the excellent plots and characters. Some of the show's more metaphorical and/or philosophical aspects may go over the head of children younger than 15 or so; there are things in that aspect of the series that I'm only catching now. As far as content goes, Season 1 is perfectly fine for children 10 and older; mild profanity, moderate violence, and minor innuendo. Seasons 2 and 3 are Iffy for 10+, with more violence (on par or less than what you'd see in one of those crappy action cartoons, such as Naruto) and sexual content (less shocking than a daytime soap opera). Seasons 4-7 continue this increase (particularly in Season 6, which includes some sex scenes that are a bit racy for network television, though still with no nudity) and also introduce some controversial themes, bumping them up to Iffy for 12+.

why is it rated so HIGH!!
this show is amazing!!! the fights are so thought out and the the story lines are just as good, but i think that it is being rated WAY too high!! yes there is some sexual parts but that shouldn't wreak the show for people under thirteen! I started to watch this show when i was 12 and my dad sagusted it when i was haveing a sleepover with my friend! We stayed up all night watching the first season and then the second !! WE loved it!!! it was the best thing we had seen in a long while and the relationship between buffy and angel was just so moving for the slayer to fall in love with a vampire. soon enough my mom found out that i was watching it and she go mad but i could never understand why untill i got to season 5 6 and 7 but it wasn't as big of a deal as i expected! after the 3d season i was completly hooked well i was hooked since the first season but i got worse in the 3ed!! i started to sneek the disks out of the box sets and go through sometimes a disk a night!! it took me only 1 MONTH to finish the whole series and it took them to make the series 7 YEARS!! i was way to attached to the series that when my sister wanted to watch them i got upset that she wanted to use the disks that I HAD PAID for!! but in general that is the best series i have seen in a while!! right up to Veronica Mars and Alias

Favorite show
This is an incredible show, it has so many levels and is the type of show you can watch over and over again. I personally started watching this when I was 10 or 11, but this may be a bit young for some kids. I think it just depends on the maturity level and discussions that go on between parent and kid. But overall I think a lot of people could really love and enjoy this show, it got me through a lot ( and I still pop a Buffy DVD into my player when I am having a bad day or a bad month, or whatever).

A Great Show
I started watching this show when I was thirteen, and I immdeiately became hooked. I think this show is more for older teenagers, however, around fifteen and older. There is a lot of violence, but it's not the main theme of the show and it's usually not too graphic. There are few sex scenes, maybe around 10 shows out of all the seven seasons that are actually centered around sex. And the sex isn't just meaningless sex, there is always a theme or message centered around it. So what is Willow is lesbian? I think that just added morre diversity to the show.

We borrowed all the seasons on dvd from friends so got to see it all at once. though didn't start watching till 3rd season still love the show! this show brought tears to my eyes numorus times (when Tara died, the last ep. ect) it has grat women power stuff and the only reason spike is so much older then her is because he's immortal and if you strunk his life he'd be about 20. and no1 mentions Zander and Amy's thing, she's as old as Spike! But overall this show is cool! I mean come on Buffy dies like 3 times!

I Liked it until i found out...
In season seven, I was very disappointed. I found out that Willow, had turned lesbian. But, in season three they showed Angel and Buffy groping in bed (they were having sex)... Not too graphic, but still, it was very obvious what was going on... Lotsa sex, lotsa violence, and lotsa witchcraft... NOT FOR KIDS OR ANYONE!!!
