CORWIN'S QUEST follows the adventures of nature preservationist Jeff Corwin as he visits countries around the world to educate viewers about animals and their special capabilities. In each episode -- which is based on a theme such as sight, smell, or hearing -- Corwin demonstrates how different species use their senses.
To explain the abilities of animals invisible to the human eye, Corwin uses both low- and high tech-tools. In one episode, for example, he led a tarantula along a balloon attached to a microphone to illustrate how the footsteps of male tarantulas sound to females.
Corwin's success at capturing an audience is not only thanks to his marvelous animal guests, but also to his enthusiasm for animals and dedication to nature preservation. His excitement encourages viewers to think about how precious the planet's diverse ecosystem is and how now, more than ever, its creatures need our help. By traveling to the remote corners of the earth that viewers may never see, Corwin's Quest educates them about the world outside their neighborhood.
A word of caution: While Corwin's Quest has a lot of positive messages for children and really inspires their curiosity about the natural world, Corwin still does some crazy things -- like wrestling alligators and poking sticks at potentially lethal spiders. Kids need to know that they should never copy what they see and never handle wild animals without parental supervision.
In a world of highly age-specific television, Corwin's Quest is a program that the whole family can watch and really enjoy together -- something that may be an endangered species itself.
