Good on its own, great when you go beyond the show.
Like it, It's definately geared for the kiddie-corral crowd. My boys have a slightly varied view of this show since they seem to prefer teh one that is aired over the Univision network in which the Spanish/English lines are inversed. Overall a good show that incorporates the use of a child's imagination. I get the boys to use their imagination to use their stuffies after we watch the show by having them roleplay their own adventure loosely based on what we just watched.

Great for the little tots
I'VE outgrown this show. It suprised me because one episode was TV-Y7.

HATE it
Dora may have had some redeeming features at some point in time before I had my daughter, but they;re long gone now. She is apparently incapable of speaking in a normal tone of voice - EVERTHING is SHOUTED AT THE TOP OF HER LUNGS!!!; the "bilingual" claim is highly suspect, since she barely uses more than one or two Spanish words in an episode; and Nickelodeon has apparently sold its soul to the devil of mass marketing, because this show does little more than familiarize kids with that ubiquitously licensed little face, which is absolutely inescapable in any store or aisle of a store dedicated to young kids. I personally don't want my child brainwashed by advertisers at the pre-school stage, so I severely limit her exposure to the show, and throw out nearly everything anyone gives us that is Dora-branded.

Not recommended...ever..
The show its self is very basic for young viewers. However, being in an English speaking country I was a little upset when my child was asking for things in Spanish. We broke her of that habit quickly. I decided to watch the show to see just what everything was about. The problems were very simple. However, they have Spanish being taught to you child. I would love another language being taught, but something with a beauty to it. French, Italian, or the proper Spanish like that found in Spain. Next is the characters constantly yelling. It is as if they believe they will not be heard or something. That also started another problem. Eventually we broke that out of our child. Teacher her the she doesn't need to yell to be heard. That our ears do not need to bleed for an understanding. Little things like that become associated with that culture.

A very good wholesome show for you're child of ANY AGE!
Finally, after all the sex and violence the media shoves down our throat, a show fit for children. My 12 and 13 year old nieces still watch this show and they love it. Dora is a positive role model, and she speaks some Spanish, which is good education for the kiddies.

Great educational show!!
I am here to defend Dora the Explorer. She is very educational. This show teaches problem solving, shapes, letters, numbers and some Spanish. If you do not live in a Hispanic populated area, you may be blind to see that learning Spanish is a great resource for children. If you think she is mean and yells at people or is into paganism, give me a break! I think that the cartoons we were all raised on, like Bugs Bunny, My Little Pony and Strawberry Shortcake were more violent and were more involved into paganism than Dora ever could live up to. I do think Dora is a great show and I do let my children watch it. What harm could it do? Oh no! My child wants to make believe and she wants to be a princess or she might pick up some Spanish. The world is not going to end if you let your child watch Dora the Explorer.

kid show that is not for kids
dora's early seasons were ok, but now they put in all sorts of things like magic and scary trolls and angry bears...why introduce fear and witchcraft to kids? aside from that, the branding that surrounds this show - (shoes, candy, toothbrush, bedroom sets) everywhere you go you see Dora stuff in the store, i think is too overwhelming for children of this age.

I will not let my 3 year old watch this show. There are much better educational shows on TV. Dora has horrible manners - Yelling, telling others what to do. SHe knows of Dora thru all the items in the stores. You can't get away from it, but she has never seen a show.

I lost six brain cells watching this!
This show is really annoying, and when reading the review about it, i see what they mean! I have a 5 year old at home, just turned 5, And she LOVES dora, She is constantly Repeating her self. More than any usual 5 year old. Its momma, momma, momma, MOMMA!!! (because dora tells you to "YELL LOUDER") Also not a good show, because my dad is a 3rd shifter and dora not only encourages you to yell louder but to stand up and jump up and down, This is in the Daily Programming!

over-commercialized junk
this show stinks. the barrage of products that follows it baffle me, as the show has horribly lame stories (even for the youngest ages), and my 3-yr-old finds it boring. The talking-at-the-screen doesn't make my child respond, and the random espanol-dropping doesn't make this bad lip-synch animation educational--it is simply aimed to trick parents into believing it is. don't waste your "two hours or less per day" of viewing time on this unimaginative and boring show. Watch something with creativity, imagination, and great music, like the Backyardigans.

Dora the Explorer
Sexual Content (Not an Issue): None. Violence (Not an Issue): None. Language (Not an Issue): Viewers learn Spanish. Social Behavior (On): Characters are kind, generous, and willing to help others. There is a villain (or bully, rather), but it's clear that his actions aren't acceptable. Commercialism (Pause): Dora is a huge marketing empire: video games, toys, dolls, bandages, you name it. Drug/Alcohol/Tobacco (Not an Issue): None.

Great Program for learning minds
I love Dora and my 2 year old loves her too. (We just had a Dora birthday party)I love the vol of the show due to the fact that my daughter dones not sit and watch she is off in the other room and when she hears something exciteing she comes running to the tv and its great the way Dora repeats things it make it easy for young minds to absorb all the info. She has been watching since she was one and i hope she continues watching till shes six and our country is going to make changes to our languages and its great to teach them young.

Not that bad.
I remember watching this show, it's very educational for the little kids. One thing I just didn't like was (for me) I kept telling the T.V. that the fox was over there. I got mad at Dora for not listening to me. xD I was like 5 at that time until I finally gave up on Dora. Sometimes this show can confuse people lol

Pure garbage.
Dora shows kids talking animals, freaky trolls and monsters, bears, ect. Good thinking introducing witchcraft and monsters to little kids. And Dora doesnt teach spanish by saying something in Spanish and then not saying what it means. Show is not funny and gets old after two episodes. So, if you want your kids to watch an educational show, laugh a little and learn some spanish, your answer IS HANDY MANNY. That teaches Spanish and is GOOD for kids.

Awesome
I love this show. Dora helps me understand my English and Spanish!!!Snicker, It helps that I already took a simester of Spanish and I know English perfectly. It actually helps some kids learn English by learning two languages. For all those kids that say Dora should be a red "off", they're totally wrong.

Bad Show!
Here are reasons you shoudent let ur children watch this show- 1. Dora screams at people, and tells people what to do. Exact opposite of what you want a young child to be learning. 2.Dora is not educational in any way what so ever! She cant teach spanish by saying 'bien!' or 'hola!' They include talking stars and animals, and rainclouds! Thats not right! 3. Dora likes to scare young viewers. My little cousin doesnt like this show because it includes an evil troll who tells dora 'im gonna get ya! Im gonna get ya!' 4. Last, but NOT least, they include stealing in every episode. From swiper the swiping fox, and from dora, who steals something from an enemy. So parents, face it. Is this what you want your young children watching and learnig? Yelling, Screaming, being bossy, talking earth, scary trolls and thunder and bulls, and stealing? If your letting your kid watch this, go the other way, and watch Blues Clues!

My IQ dropped
Dora is very annoying. She yells at the kids and drops random Spanish phrases. She's rude and talks to strangers and goes on adventures alone. Dora is also very commercialized and has a whole marketing empire.

This show is great for pre-schoolers! It helps them with shapes, numbers, problem solving, and they can even learn a little spanish! This show is great for all ages, though not many people over 5 watch it. (I still watch it sometimes!)

I agree on Dora being rude
I agree with the person that said Dora is rude. I do not think it is nice to constantly tell someone to say or do something. Younger kids might like it, though.
